100% this. You can tell immediately on looking at it - and it's been out for years in Europe so it's not new as this video implies - that the front seats aren't in the same position. They destroyed the styling instead of just doing a proper homage to the original which would have given people a massive nostalgia hit. It's outrageously expensive for a low end vehicle with software from a company that has a reputation for doing terrible EV software and had to sack something like 10,000 developers - I believe I've heard Tesla's team is 600 people and their software is more advanced by far because of FSD.
I can't imagine anyone who likes VW camper vans is going to be thrilled by one of these, it's a completely different vehicle and more of a Renault Espace than a VW camper. Scooby Doo wouldn't be seen dead in this.

The first Kombis were too top heavy and used to tip over so they brought them out with smaller wheels. The batteries in EVs are so heavy they could bring out a higher wheel base off road version of the Buzz. People mover, off road camper and work van, plus they look cool. As battery prices fall and software catches up people will make buying decisions just on style. I drive a van because it's comfortable to sleep in and I can leave my golf clubs, surfboard, fishing and spearfishing gear, a large cooler. plus a change of clothes and towels in there at all times. I can even fit a small kayak. The lift up tail gate is also a great place to get under and changed when it's raining, especially in winter. So many pluses with an electric van.

We already know Tesla plans to produce 2 new lower cost models in 2025. Could a van be one of them? Could the van double as a future cybercab variant? I think it's very likely. I can see them revealing the cybercab and van on 10/10, as the van will also function as a cab and is not likely to Osborne existing offerings. The van is super important, as it attracts several markets...POV people hauler, commercial, taxi, and RV. Not even counting taxi, the commercial market for an EV van will be huge...globally. I suspect the van will not be as large as the VW offering. I'm expecting something more similar to a stretched London cab. I think it will be a cross between van, SUV and estate (wagon). The low cost version may be a lower range, 2 seat, stripped down, allowing for after market customization.

It's going to sell well, but why is the range so low for such a large battery. There is some optimization that can be done with this vehicle.

For the van idea, would be great to see what Tesla Solar could integrate into this as a camping feature option, in addition to the Starlink access. Imagine a few folding solar panels that deploy to collect energy while serving as sun shades for the van. With proper first principles engineering that Tesla/Musk is so famous for, you might be able to get up to a kilowatt or so, with not much impact to weight, design or cost.

Tesla will announce two vehicles on 10/10. I firmly believe this. One will be a car, one will be a van.

I love how that VW iDBuz, aka Minivan, has a cool factor look.
Tesla could do the same. Kia/Hyundai & Chrysler own the minivan market, but they dont have the cool factor "Party Bus" "Camp-Mobile" that Tesla could build. 😎
    Cheers, Eric

I love the idea of a Tesla van or minivan, but I don’t think this is the right time for such a vehicle.
The primary market for something like this are parents with young children at home who play sports, or otherwise get chauffeured around by their parents. They tend to buy minivans, but at around $35k. For Tesla to make something like this they would likely need to charge $60k or more, and I just don’t think young parents will be willing to spend that much on a vehicle. The current EV tax credit would help a little, but not nearly enough, and that credit could very well be gone after this year.
Tesla needs to get a vehicle to market that costs $25k or less. That would sell millions of vehicles, would seriously boost the transition to EV’s, and would destroy the legacy automakers. In addition, FSD needs to be solved, which will then create massive revenues for Tesla.
Make a van or minivan in the future, but after manufacturing costs are brought even lower, and they can be sold for less than $50k.

I am currently doing Bandlife in the Maritimes in eastern Canada. The biggest expense on the trip seems to be fuel. Using a big V8 motor to move around everything you owned is not very cost-efficient. If I could go to a campsite, plug in my van, and fuse my lodging costs with my fuel costs. It makes van life very affordable and much more comfortable. If Tesla releases a sprinter type van with long range, it will change the entire nomadic movement. Add in incorporated Internet to the vehicle and you have a whole new lifestyle. Tesla will make billions on the industry.👍🇨🇦

I'm in the market for a minivan with a growing family and a large dog. Not too many EVS work for my situation unless I'm spending over $100,000. Everything else is plug-in hybrids or too small. I really need Tesla to come out with a affordable van soon

The seats need to slide out easily so you can load a MX bike or slide in camper unit, or dog cages, or totally dirt proof water proof liner for garden waste blah blah
That’s versatility in my opinion. I’m stuck with a crappy Nissan eNV200 panel van…. But it takes a MX bike✅✅✅

This shows how HORRIBLY managed Stellantis is! Chrysler practically invented the modern minivan and dominated the market. Now it's the ONLY vehicle in their portfolio, and they can't seem to think of what product chrysler needs.... so they say.

If I could put them all into a blender and make one vehicle… (I know, I know.. Model X) WOW
The Model S is sexy, luxurious & refined, the sliding doors, room and range of the Sienna the Audio, utility and better charging of the Model Y.

For its size and price, the Lucid will be irrelevant compared to the Buzz. The third row capacity in the Gravity is a joke in comparison. Lucid will never make money until they actually find the real balance between performance, reliability and cost- the combo that Tesla nailed long time ago. Both Model X and Buzz also have far better access with their barn door/falcon wing access to the second and third rows.

I think the low range will limit the VW sales, and the sales of any other brand that builds something this shape. It's basically a brick. A more dense battery tech might be necessary before this becomes a road-trip vehicle. With low range it's a soccer mom vehicle.
