So excited for you! I know all the information can seem overwhelming, just try to stay on top of your assignments & make sure you are consistently reviewing content.
As someone on the back end of EMT (course work completed with clinical only left) it is definitely intimidating. Consistency is KEY and keep at it every day learning little by little. In the end it all makes sense and the confidence is priceless! You got this! Push through any doubts or struggles.
@@hookedonthebay3890 I’m going to register for EMT program and extremely scared. I have ADHD and text anxiety so idk how I’ll do it. Is it hard? The exam or course ?
@Jit Ami Don't let your adhd and test anxiety keep you from doing it!!! Are you going to do it in person or online? I would recommend doing the course in person because I did mine online and that made it harder, especially when I had to go in for skills days. In-class you will be just fine!!! You'll be so glad you did it. Good luck!
@Jit Ami The course is not hard. My only piece of advice to you is 1. Take your time and don't fly through it 2. Pay extra close attention to your skills, especially medical and trauma patient assessment. The other skills (bvm apneic patient, cpr, bleeding control, spinal immobilization, oxygen tank/ nonrebreather mask) are easy and I learned in 1 day. But focus on patient assessment. As far as the NREMT test it will depend on your knowledge in the course work. It's easy if you apply yourself, again you can totally do it!
I'm on my first clinical right now! At my school we have to get 48 hours and 10 patient contacts. At our main ambulance station in my super busy tourist town. It's gone good so far, but I'm still being put kinda in observe mode and haven't had my own patient contacts yet... so... still nervous about that but everything else I was worried about isn't even an issue. I got myself worried and nervous over nothing! My clinicals are due in just 10 days, and then the big test for my license!!!! I can't believe I've almost made it through, and stuck with it. I'm so proud, and proud of everyone else on here that's passed or is in the process as well! We CAN do it you guys
Glad to hear you are having a positive experience so far! Once you are licensed do you want to work on the trucks or in the ER? Hope they rest of your clinicals went well ☺️
i remember my time in EMT school as well as my clinical and ride time and it's been 4 years. I did my ride time on a Fire Ambulance and it was cool to see the fire side of EMS. Honestly it was fun in school. Granted i'm here doing the job now as an EMT | Security Officer and i'm having fun but nothing beats where you get your first few calls in the ambulance nd you get to use the skills you just learned.
At one point in my life, I was both unfortunate enough and fortunate enough to need an ambulance several times. There was a newly licensed EMT that came. Other than just making the situations seem less, well clinical and physical force, she calmed me. One night, while the male EMT's were discussing something she climbed in the driver's seat. The paramedic asked her if she had driven before. Her answer? "Not on city streets." HIS answer? "Let's go! Never been so proud. She's a really nice young lady. Competent and Confident and really Considerate. Tnank you Emma for all you did.
I did one of my clinical shifts with a county fire dept in New Mexico, and within 10 minutes of arriving to the station we got called to a MVA (two cars head on (5 people total) at 60mph). My 2nd clinical shift was a raw indoctrination into what EMS can expect.
I really appreciate all the work you’ve done EMT clinics on and because of reading stories about paramedics and EMT, and watching emergency, I learned not to be afraid of, ambulances and hospitals
Hi Casey ! I just got certified to practice in CA!! now I just gotta get my ambulance drivers license🥰 because of Covid I couldn’t do ridealongs in my program, glad you were able to tho!! 💖
for your first call it depends on what type of crew you’re riding with. since you had a both a EMT and a Paramedic it’s a good idea to kinda follow both. because as a EMT you’re going to be assisting the Paramedic half the time. other times it’s good to follow the paramedic because they would be doing most of the vitals and everything if not they would leave it up to the EMT. it also depends on what state you’re in. like I’m currently a Emergency Medical Responder in New Jersey and I’m planning on going back to EMT school eventually. but in New Jersey our BLS and ALS are separate meaning that any BLS ambulance is operating stand alone, fire based, hospital, county or private. ALS/Paramedics only operate out of hospital based EMS agencies and will usually meet us at the scene of a call or depending on the severity of the patient we can meet them while en route to the hospital.
Many thanks for this video. It's really interesting to see clinical placements through the eyes of a student. I'm an Australian paramedic and I often have student paramedics doing their clinical placements in the second half of their third year. All of them are studying paramedicine at a university; EMT level is technically not legal here as having a Paramedic degree is the minimum requirement for working on emergency ambulances. A year down the track, how is your career progressing? Been doing this for 26 years, and just when you think you've seen and done it all, a patient will test that thought. Stay safe out there.
Wow only 24 hours worth of clinicals!?! We had 4 twelve hours shifts at different fire stations around my city and then an 8 hour shift in the emergency room
In Tennessee we are required to do 96 clinical hours for EMT Basic and 96 ride plus 40 ER clinicals for Advanced EMT. I'm newly licensed as an AEMT in Nashville and LOVE it! Enjoy your journey!
I am studying to became an emt right now, definitely not easy. And will be continuing my study to become a medic once I work as a basic for a few years!! I love this field of work !!🚑🤍
Yay, glad you are doing your ride along now because that must mean you are close to being done! Do you plan on doing the advanced then on to paramedic or are you going to wait and see how it goes? I started EMT this week, really need to up my game on squats because my legs were a bit sore after not working out for awhile 😊 I am at least going to get the AEMT, not sure about medic, I am hoping there will be an ER tech job available in my area, that’s my main goal. Have a great rest of your week!
@@CaseySmithOfficial I don’t think you technically are considered certified. From what I hear you get trained and then you basically just ride along in the ambulance helping wherever you can. It’s been on the news and stuff so I’m very confused still.
It depends in indiana we have a career center thing in your senior year and it goes something along the lines of as long as your turning 18 the year you take the nremt or something you can take the class and the test, so you can certainly do your clinicals at 17 but I'm not so sure you can actually become an EMT until after
For the patient going into anaphylaxis? Is wasn’t a sever reaction so the medic used IV Benadryl because the breathing treatment had already helped open they’re airway.
I start EMT school next month. It’s definitely intimidating since there’s SO much knowledge to learn but I’m so excited to be in this field.

That’s great! You can see if hospitals or ambulances will let you volunteer or do ride alongs 😁
Hope you guys enjoyed this video! Let me know if you have any questions 😁

Appreciate this 🙏 very helpful! I'm starting paramedic school in the fall! 🤗 so excited

I just subscribed I really like your explanation of your ride along you are very interesting and easy on the eyes! I can’t wait to see more content

Glad you like the content Damon!
I’m going back to school to become an EMT and a Paramedic after that!!!
Congrats James!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
It’s called a mdt or cad depend on your state but good luck now im a paramedic/firefighter
Do y’all really get paid so low? I want to do the EMT thing, but I am scared I won’t be able to pay my bills 😩
Unfortunately EMTs don't get paid what they deserve ☹️
Did you get paid more as an EMT or as an ER tech ? Just curious, I’m currently enrolling in EMT school but want to know my best option
In my area you make more as an ER tech. My hospital has been giving overtime incentives because of short staffing
What knowledge to ride alongs expect you to know as a student and as someone about to do an EMT academy
I’m going into emt soon I been studying about Ems for months just to get to know everything
Well I hope my videos help you!

Right now I’m not interested in paramedic just EMT! Also I’m hoping to take my licensing exam next month so then I’ll be done!
So your going for your RN or is a ER nurse something different?
Plan is to get my RN and work on the ER
Unfortunately in Oregon we are only required one 12 ambulance shift. I wish I could do 100.
Oh wow one shift seems so short!
What part of Missouri? I recently just completed a course in Boone County and did my first clinic.
I'm in central missouri!
Is it true that 16 and 17 year olds can become a EMT? I’ve seen it on the internet but i can’t tell if it’s true or not.
I don’t believe this is true, because to get nationally certified you must be 18

American EMS feels so weird for a European, I really need to do a ride out to see if it just sound so different or actually is.
I had someone from Europe in my EMT course and she said it was very different than EMS in Europe.
How about some epinephrine
For the patient going into anaphylaxis? Is wasn’t a sever reaction so the medic used IV Benadryl because the breathing treatment had already helped open they’re airway.
Why do you want to be an RN instead of a Physician?
Many reasons but the main one is less school and better work life balance! I will be making a whole video about it!
They always stay longer
It's a medical onboard computer
put the phone down and pick up the book
I feel like they dont like to train they act like the trainees are in the way
