Bro my dad did the graveyard shift for like a decade, no joke. He would always leave at 6pm and come back at 6 in the morning like it was nothing. He always took naps and i never realized until now how crazy he was to work so late just to support my family. My dad is awesome :) P.s he has a better job now that he likes, and is getting more sleep too lol
My bf works graveyard 11;30pm-7:30am and idk how he does it. I try to tell him to sleep more and he does ok on 4-5 hours of sleep so he doesn't just miss out on life in general.
my bestfriend works at 7pm-7 am he says it’s but that bad he just needs to bring coffee but then again he’s young and i know the older you get you’ll get more tired
Karen Tarek Hi, i’m in my final year and I would say go for it but only if you’re passionate about it. I have many friends who dropped out because it wasn’t what they expected and they dreaded the 12 hour shifts, so badly to the point they started skipping and just left. Do thorough research but I would recommend volunteering at the hospital to get a small taste of what it actually is. So that this way you know if it’s something you would love or not. All the best!
I just thought it was funny , as a seasoned nurse , I couldn’t care less . As long as I’m clean and my uniform is nice , that’s it . No makeup for work for me!
I’m a pre med student with my EMT license and I’m torn between ER tech and working for a private ambulance company but leaning towards ER tech. So happy to have found this video and get some insight!!!
I feel like you’d get lots of experience as an er tech I’ve been one for two years and graduate nursing school this December it has prepared me soooo much
Definitely ER tech!! I worked for a private ambulance company and now I’m a tech. I hated the private ambulance so much. Just inter-facility transports all day, everyday. I never comment or reply to comments on here, but I had to save you from working private ems 😂 if you’re trying to get experience for pre med, you won’t find it there. Sorry this sounded super negative, I just really wanted to get the point across! Good luck!!
You must live next to your job place lol I wake up 2 hours before class, to get there on time, and I cannot waste a minute, because I might get there late because of traffic. I have a training that’s 15 mins from home, and I have to leave home at least 30 mins before, but usually I leave a little earlier than that.
Thank you so much! 😊 I always tell myself "You decide what kind of day you're gonna have." and I usually have a good day because I have a lot to be grateful for!
Crazy how you came up in my recommended and you are from the same area! I have been to that hospital many times for clinicals! Staff is always so kind there. 😊
I decided recently that I wanted to be an RN and thought being a EMT just to get into a hospital would be a good idea but actually seeing someone else doing it lets me know I’m moving in the right direction ♥️
Oh this video brings me back!! I was a tech on a general medicine floor. We didn’t start IVs but we pulled them and started and pulled urinary catheters. I left the hospital went to work for the school of medicine (same campus, it’s a teaching hospital)and became a Clinical Research Tech and I have worked my way up to Clinical Research Coordinator (while getting my degrees). There are so many jobs in the medical field. I love it.
Awww that's awesome! You really worked your way up. That's so inspiring 😊 I'm glad you came across this video. I love hearing from other medical professionals!
OMG so glad I just found your channel 🙌🏼 I’m a full time nursing student and I also work full time at a hospital in med/surg! The 12 hour shifts + studying + clinical is soooooo rough, so it’s nice to see I’m not the only one! Much love xoxo 💘💘
If anyone who wants to be an ER tech watches this, just a heads up to check your state and local hospital requirements. I've always seen people say that you have to be an EMT and was disappointed because I don't want to go to school for a year for that as it wouldn't be a permanent career for me, but is something I'd like to try. So I was really excited to find out my hospital will train me to be an ER tech once I've worked there for a year. I'm a CNA. So I'm excited that this is an option for me especially since CNA school is much shorter than EMT school.
You go girl! Btw I recognized the hospital you worked at, use to go there as a child 😂 I’m also an Er tech looking to become a PA or NP and I came across your channel to see how people our age deal with work and school and your doing great so it gives me hope to keep pushing as well! It’s hard sometimes as a tech and there are times when it’s easy so I definitely know the feeling!
I'm a veterinary tech and I never expected our jobs to be so similar, at least when I'm in the ER! The stocks to sign-off, the triage, long freaking days (sometimes with barely any lunch because it's crazy busy), taking - and running, if the lab people aren't there - blood samples. I love it, but I could never in a million years imagine myself working with human patients. Too scary! Hope you're doing great! Lots of love from Sweden. 😊 ❤
Melissa I used to watch you years ago!!! I didn’t know you started making videos again until this was in my recommended. Happy to see you thriving and glad to see you are back :)
Wow im so happy I found your channel!! I’m an aspiring PA too and I just started a channel so I can share my journey! Can’t wait to binge watch your videos :)
I'm not an ER tech but an RRT and also have 12 hours abs I'm the same way. When i saw she got up extra early for makeup, I was like nope, I'll go ahead and scare the patients idc I need my sleep lol
Great job girl, I'm thinking about going back into nursing but I'm undecided & I don't know how I got to your channel but I'm glad I did & for that reason I subscribed😍😍
Hi just spent some time in hospital here in Ireland, I was admitted with severe chest pains, watching nurses, doctors work and amazed how busy you get.. Keep up the good work.
Massive salute to you for being so strong with cystic fibrosis. I leant about it in science and it really astonished me to see the struggles of someone with cystic fibrosis. Hope you feel well ❤
I work nights as an ER tech while in nursing school, so cool to see another hospital set up. What's your favorite thing to see/do in the ER? We get a lot of traumas and STEMI's. Anything trauma/cardiac I love haha. Best wishes fellow ER crew😎😎
I love the exciting stuff! Codes + STEMI’s and strokes are what we see a lot of. Then of course you have the not-so-emergency side of things lol! Thanks for watching 🙌🏼 Good luck in nursing school.
Hay this is my job! Glad to see someone is making videos for this job description. Was hard to find any before I made the transition from EMT to ER Tech. When people ask what I do I just say I'm a glorified CNA.
I could never do anything in medicine, admire those who can! Almost having a panic attack looking at all that in the supply room!!! Well, everyone is good at something!
I spent two years with ER Tech being my life. I’m a teacher now but I miss the days of helping save lives and helping the team. Nice not to worry about how unsafe ERs are now though. Not that schools are any safer but 💁🏻♀️
i know what hospital this is im not going to name it but i think its near the children hospital. i was there in the ER for volunteering and it was so rewarding and lots to learn.
I think that is really awesome. I have been a CNA since 2018. So I am so used to working in a nursing home. I have already applied and have had my interview for a position at my hospital for the Emergency Department. I know that they get pretty busy which is what I like. I have never had to do finger sticks or draw blood. Not even an IV. Never did EKGs either but I am very glad to learn. I love to learn new things would love to get your input on everything.
Our ER techs are so skilled in what they do! They jump in on traumas to get the patient hooked up to all the monitors, communicate with the doctors for us, file paperwork, and do so much that I have no idea how to do. I couldn’t do my job without them!
The ER techs in the ER I work in are just STNA’s. The hospital calls them senior techs. They do all the same things you do. Including triaging patients and stocking the rooms. They also assist with traumas when they come in.
im so glad you made this video lol im a nurse now but i started out as an ER tech and literally no one (including me before i had the job) knows that we exist and what our role is! and theres jusst so much er techs do that its hard to explain. you did a good job of capturing everything
I see some of you guys asking about EMT school, it is so easy. So if you’re interested, I’d say go for it. I’m in Paramedic school right now, a lot tougher but will be worth it.
I am a medic and an RN, love being a medic and glad I don't have to work full time as a nurse. Nursing can be a truly miserable job, and don't believe what they say about being able to "work anywhere as a nurse". Jobs are limited, and it's like trying to pull teeth trying to change nursing specialties! If I had to do it over again I would have done medic and then PA school!
I just had open heart surgery at cohens children’s in New York. Great hospital! i have been in ER 3 times for scares after surgery. I know so many nurses and doctors since i was there for 3 weeks prior. So hard working ! I respect it so much and have so much appreciation.
Our Ed techs also do vitals and grabs misc things like drinks/snacks/food , warm blankets to the patient rooms they are assigned. They also cover the breaks of a patient sitter if we have any, which we do 24hrs on the daily. Plus only the nurses do the triage here. Is our hospital the only one that does those things as well. No other day in life ed tech has included these in their videos, (this is the 3rd video I have seen) . Love your videos!
Crazy I just stumbled across this video on my recommended feed and work in the medical career so I was interested and holy moly you work in the hospital my sister in law and brother gave birth to my nephew at!! Crazy small world
Omg I know this hospital 😂 I won’t say for privacy but I’m an EMT on the road and I go to this ER all the time. I just recently applied there to be a tech to get through nursing school!!! So glad i found this video ❤️❤️
Annabelle's Vlogs this is what I am currently doing. EMT was so worth it because now doing nursing school I have some experience and knowledge that has helped me do well in nursing school.
I work admission in an emergency room and at our hospital admission and an RN are the ones in charge at triage. We tag team patients with a million questions lol. I make $30 an hour doing admissions so I feel pretty lucky getting paid this much.
I’m actually on the same pre PA route you are. I’m getting my emt license to get my patient contact hours. I’m on my last national register test ! It’s so good to hear and have relief someone else is doing the same thing as me!
I work 3pm until 7am. Girl I get all that you do. Although my field is family medicine. There are days I would see 30 patients and days where it's well over 70. Literally non stop. I definitely don't miss stocking rooms and basically the work no one else wants to do.
I was wondering what certificates you need to be eligible because I’m an EMT student and want to be an ER tech and was wondering if an EMT license would be enough
As a 2nd year PA student, it is helpful to know what ER techs do. I may have missed this but which classes are you taking and what is your dream goal after graduation?
I’ve only seen your more recent videos! Didn’t know you were an ER tech before. My twin sis is one so it was nice to watch this and see what she does. I only hear the crazy stories lol
On second thought; in my younger days, I could have worked in the lab with a specimen and microscope; that's about it! No patient contact, just in the background making a difference!!!
I thought so long and hard about making a day on the life of a graveyard ER Tech but the truth is, it’s not all that complicated. EKG if any chest pain , draw blood, start IVs, take urine samples and update tracker information. All from the hours of 7pm to 7am if you work in a hospital overnight about 80 percent of the techs will say they do the nurses jobs and the nurses will say they do the doctors jobs it’s pretty simple and easy compared to being a combat medic in the Army, a hospital job is cake. GREAT VIDEO THOUGH!
Thanks for sharing. I'm an EMT also and just got hired as an ED tech. I wasn't sure what to expect but your video helped. I plan on going to nursing school. I'll be doing night shift bc the pay is $2 more an hour on top of base pay, so to me it's worth it. I haven't started nursing school yet but plan to in 1-2 years of working the ED. I did my EMT clinicals in the same ED so I'm excited to be an actual employee there now.
It’s amazing how much stuff you guys have. As a medical student who is now in rotations in hospitals, is pretty bad. Here in Mexico, money is necessary for health, we don’t have the equipment, nor any of the stuff you showed. It’s pretty sad the situation. We have excellent doctors but we need equipment. It’s beautiful to see how full it’s everything and I wished was in here too.
Did you have to certify as a Phlebotomist separately? And did you have much experience as an EMT before you applied? I'm told that I'll have to spend some time as an EMT before anywhere will accept me as an ER technician. I think it varies from state to state though.
Charlotte Frey i did not have to certify as a phlebotomist. They trained me when I was hired. I did inter facility transport for about 6 months before I got hired as an ER tech. The hospitals usually require experience of some sort before they will hire you.
Was a ERTech for 7yrs. Loved it. I worked as hard as the RN’s if not harder. I was one tech to 3 RN did all lab draws,Iv’s, Patient care as needed transferring patients admitted. After a 12 hr shift I was truly exhausted
I’m an EMT currently working 911 but I’m working on my CPT1 to work in the hospital near me as an ER tech! I love working in emergency situations, so I hope I love the hospital as much as I do the rig!
EMT drawing blood and giving IVs? What state is this in? I'm an EMT in California and our scope of practice is so small, we need permission to give ibuprofen. Great video btw.
Our department is rather large. We usually have 1 tech to every 4 nurses. But we have a fast track and a mid track plus a tech in triage so when I said only 2 techs on the floor I just meant the main ED. 😊
I want to become an EMT so I can work as an ER tech, or an EMS worker more or less what works best with my hours but I’m only 17 and I can’t start training to early so I sorta have to wait until I have 3 months until my 18th birthday. Hopefully I could be an ER tech and a senior
@@negemai That's wonderful. Yes, the medical field is a great profession. I'll be starting my nursing program in January. What type of facility you are working in?
oh wow! That is small... I imagine probably just one doctor on too? I love working in a larger ER. We also have a fast track section and a mid track outside of our main department. 😊
damn you're so lucky you get your syllabus before you start, in ireland we get ours like 2 weeks into the semester xD your planner looks so neat I'm so jealous!
Bro my dad did the graveyard shift for like a decade, no joke. He would always leave at 6pm and come back at 6 in the morning like it was nothing. He always took naps and i never realized until now how crazy he was to work so late just to support my family. My dad is awesome :)

Lance my dad is working those hours rn it’s terrible I never see him 🥺🥺🥺
How sweet! The things our parents do for us ❤️❤️❤️
can you tell us his new job?

I just thought it was funny , as a seasoned nurse , I couldn’t care less . As long as I’m clean and my uniform is nice , that’s it . No makeup for work for me!

I would suggest ER tech!! I did interfacility transport before this and hated it! I much rather work in the hospital as a tech 🙌🏼

I feel like you’d get lots of experience as an er tech I’ve been one for two years and graduate nursing school this December it has prepared me soooo much

U start at 7am but wake up at 4 am 🤨..... I could never I wake up 15 min before I start work
Alex E eh depends on how far u live from your job
I would wake up early as hell too if I lived out from the city to make it to work on time. Common sense lol.
You must live next to your job place lol I wake up 2 hours before class, to get there on time, and I cannot waste a minute, because I might get there late because of traffic. Glad I grad from my BSN and start working as a OR nurse. I am so tired of CNA work.
Im always so fascinated on the behind the scenes stuff so this was good to watch def had to subscribe as well xox
Popped up in my recommended and I’m defiantly not mad about it (subscribed)
Aye!!! We work hard, ER is not a joke when it comes to taking care of patients. I’m glad I switched from Med Surg to the ER
Medic school was terrible
I just had open heart surgery at cohens children’s in New York. Great hospital! i have been in ER 3 times for scares after surgery. I know so many nurses and doctors since i was there for 3 weeks prior. So hard working ! I respect it so much and have so much appreciation.
I know that hospital! The elevator view gave it away! Lol. I had both my babies there! 🥰
Mad she looks that good after a 12. I don't even look that good starting my 12.
It’s so awesome to see you guys order your supplies from Medline! I work for Medline!! 😊😊 saving lives one pick at a time
I wanna work in the ER as a nurse and want to be a EMT while going to school to be a nurse or maybe even a ER tech
Annabelle's Vlogs this is what I am currently doing. EMT was so worth it because now doing nursing school I have some experience and knowledge that has helped me do well in nursing school.
McKenzy Johnson thank you for helping me I rly appreciate it 💗
Also a ED tech! It’s so neat to see the differences in how your supplies look to the ones where I work! We use epic as well!
When I was in 5th grade I came here with my school to sing some songs for Christmas🥺
Yes! That’s all you need!
No, you also need an IV certification. I’m an ED Tech in medic school.
Kaitlyn McCarron but she’s also a ER tech??? So maybe some hospitals you do need and do not need? my city doesn’t even require any EMT certificate
Kaitlyn McCarron where I live I didn’t need anything except for my EMT license. All other skills are taught on the job
Different states require different certifications. Here in HI we require EMT, first year nursing students, CNAs, or the least MAs.
I’m about to start my EMT program next month! Also planning on becoming a PA as well! I’m glad I stumbled upon your channel!
As a 2nd year PA student, it is helpful to know what ER techs do. I may have missed this but which classes are you taking and what is your dream goal after graduation?
411foryou thank you!!! My dream goal is to become a surgical PA 🙌🏼
@@xomelissalucy Exciting! Share with us your IG so we may follow your journeys into PA school
GREAT VIDEO THOUGH!
tell me why i read the thumbnail as “er” not “ e-r” ya know what i saying?
Isabella Lamantia 😂😂😂
Thanks for sharing. I'm an EMT also and just got hired as an ED tech. I wasn't sure what to expect but your video helped. I plan on going to nursing school. I'll be doing night shift bc the pay is $2 more an hour on top of base pay, so to me it's worth it. I haven't started nursing school yet but plan to in 1-2 years of working the ED. I did my EMT clinicals in the same ED so I'm excited to be an actual employee there now.
I actually want to do this for the rest of my life. Any tips??
It’s amazing how much stuff you guys have. As a medical student who is now in rotations in hospitals, is pretty bad. Here in Mexico, money is necessary for health, we don’t have the equipment, nor any of the stuff you showed. It’s pretty sad the situation. We have excellent doctors but we need equipment.
It’s beautiful to see how full it’s everything and I wished was in here too.
I would love to know more information on how you got to this point of being an ER tech.
Is the pay more as ER technicians?
Yes they make 35 in NY
That sharpie highlighter is amazing! I didn’t even know that I needed a clear piece of plastic until I got one!
Melissa Lucy Thanks! This was helpful
Was a ERTech for 7yrs. Loved it. I worked as hard as the RN’s if not harder. I was one tech to 3 RN did all lab draws,Iv’s, Patient care as needed transferring patients admitted. After a 12 hr shift I was truly exhausted
I was an er tech for 15 years. I did like the 12 hrs shifts
I’m an EMT currently working 911 but I’m working on my CPT1 to work in the hospital near me as an ER tech! I love working in emergency situations, so I hope I love the hospital as much as I do the rig!
synchromorph oh fuck no. trauma* not drama.
EMT drawing blood and giving IVs? What state is this in? I'm an EMT in California and our scope of practice is so small, we need permission to give ibuprofen. Great video btw.
Avel hi! I live in Florida. 🙌🏼
Im a emt in Mississippi. I work in the er and we draw blood & start iv
@@LaurenTicole are you an AEMT or EMT-B?
Avel B! Had to take a iv certification class, but was trained on the job for blood draw. I can’t insert catheters though🥴
@@LaurenTicole Ah ok that makes sense. I'm sure you'll learn.
Fun fact, I teach caregivers in our health system to use EPIC. I teach the ASAP module :)
Loved this! Only two techs?! holy moly. We usually have 8-10 on the floor. How big is your departments!
Our department is rather large. We usually have 1 tech to every 4 nurses. But we have a fast track and a mid track plus a tech in triage so when I said only 2 techs on the floor I just meant the main ED. 😊
I work 8am-8pm at an urgent care. It can be stressful but I love it
I want to become an EMT so I can work as an ER tech, or an EMS worker more or less what works best with my hours but I’m only 17 and I can’t start training to early so I sorta have to wait until I have 3 months until my 18th birthday. Hopefully I could be an ER tech and a senior
I'm an CNA and working as an EDTech.
You will get there. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Kenisha therealone been a CNA and worked my way up. RN now. Medical field is so much fun!!!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
@@negemai That's wonderful. Yes, the medical field is a great profession. I'll be starting my nursing program in January. What type of facility you are working in?
Good for you! You'll definitely get there, be patient with yourself and work hard. 😊
Thank you so much girly! I have an interview as an er tech this coming Friday 🥺
I work as a tech in a 6 bed ER And I love it ! Any advice on what’s it’s like in a bigger ER?
oh wow! That is small... I imagine probably just one doctor on too? I love working in a larger ER. We also have a fast track section and a mid track outside of our main department. 😊
Melissa Lucy
Wow, I bet it’s huge. Yes, we have one provider, 2 nurses, and a tech on each shift.
I work in a 13 bed Er one doc one np and wishhhhhh we did fast track!
damn you're so lucky you get your syllabus before you start, in ireland we get ours like 2 weeks into the semester xD your planner looks so neat I'm so jealous!
