Travis Hunt RUclips PhD I didn’t learn anything unfortunately. I’m 100% self taught and I’ve always held my pick like that. Helps me personally with pinch harmonics and tremolo picking
I talked to Tobi for a good 10-15 minutes before their show last night in Ft. Lauderdale, FL (they opened for Whitechapel) - what a nice, down to Earth guy. For someone so insanely talented, he was so approachable and as humble as can be. Really glad I had the opportunity to talk to him! Long live Archspire 🤘🤘
this band is so tight live. Everybody is always on their game which is amazing seeing how every one of their songs is hard as hell to play. I've been playing close to 16 years now and I still can't get down a full archspire song. And then you got Nick Jonas screwing up a 5 note solo hahahahaha. these guys deserve so oooooooo much and I hope they get more success then they ever dreamed of
Alice Mason I second that! Super friendly dudes. Have had great conversation with their drummer Spencer. We shared some beers and he gave me some of his broken cymbals.
It's true, which makes them probably the greatest fucking band ever. I saw em last weekend & Tobi was running the merch table by himself all night as he was playing guitar and warming up. All smiles man, it was amazing to see.
Tobi and Dean are both incredibly talented players. Thank you for Relentless Mutation that has been my favorite album since I got it. Can't wait for the next one.
This video is awesome in so many ways, the camera, the production, the guitar, the guitarist.... so much awesome. The sweeps are freaking insane, but 1:59 looks almost even more intense. I don't play the guitar so I don't really know for sure.
Flawless. One the very few true organic tech guitarsists, and not guitar pro, human hand-syncing flesh slaves I see everywhere. Much inspiration to be had from this band
I was never into this Kind of music, but the technically involved is impressive. Great musicianship and interesting "reversed" picking technique as well.
@@Raittarian what he mentions has nothing to do with pick slanting. Morelly is angling the pick upwards (to the neck) in tremolo and in sweep picking and donwnwards (to the bridge) when down picking. Pick slanting is angle up (to the ceiling) or down (to the floor) related to the perpendicular plane of the strings
i do the same thing with my downpicks. it gives the downpicks a more full sound and i always accidentally gallop if i downpick with the pick being slanted anyways, so it sort of acts like a safety net.
this started and I'm like 'this is average riffing'. a minute later...and wow I don't know if ive seen sweeps that fluent, or left hand technique that slick. dang
Wow! I am not a fan of this kind of metal, and I'm not a guitar player(I play bass)but this guy is a BEAST! Chops for days! That was a clinic. I also dig the Vader(I have 3 Vader VB5 basses and one VB4 on order!). Well played, sir...;-)
its cool how tobi and dean play different stringed guitars, really helps to seperate the different parts they play. Canadian tech deth at its finest. been a fan since they opened up shop. KEEP FUCKING CRUSHING BOYS. those fucking pinch harmonics are so sikkkkk
I've considered getting a fanned fret for a while, but I tried one in the store once and stuff like sweeping just felt too awkward compared to a normal guitar. If anyone here owns a fanned fret guitar, how long did it take to get used to sweeping and other shreddy stuff on it?
Please email one of our custom shop experts at sales@kieselguitars.com. They will be able to provide you with a quote for the guitar, as well as explain the benefits of multiscale guitars.
The way he holds and shifts his pick is crazy, it almost changes 90 degrees sometimes lol. Sick playing as usual though. I got the tab book to this album, that shits hard to play!!!
This might be a dumb question for a guitar connoisseur, but for someone who doesn't play... what does the small lever he keeps pushing back and forth actually do?
That is the pickup selector, it switches between the pickups. (which are the pieces underneath the strings. There are 2 on this guitar. They contain magnets which pick up string vibrations which generates the volume for the amplified guitar.) Pickups in different positions sound different, so the pickup selector changes the noise of the guitar, which he utilizes for different parts of the song.
First of all, we're at stellar levels here. But what a strange way to hold the plectrum. Senbra plays with the side of the plectrum. I see a lot of guitarists do it and I wonder if it's actually more comfortable to play at these speeds.
Everyone in Archspire are incredibly talented super musicians
They are like machines
@@jameshang673 They are machines
I just wish they didn't have vocals. Really, can't hear and enjoy their music because of it
@@FockeWulfFW200 that sucks, personally I love the vocals
Except for Oli, can’t play any instrument.
Holy fuck. Tobi and I used to skate and play guitar way way back in the day. It’s insane how good he is now. Hell yeah dude.
It's pretty damn impressive how fast he does those diminished runs.
Brittany Branton i think it's without a doubt metal guitarist need to know diminished anything lmao
I am impressed he can hold the pick like he does. It looks so awkward
@@XenoTravis it's actually pretty comfortable for me, and it helps me play faster, so I'd say it's pretty good

yea theyre mad cool. that was a great show - got a VIP section seat for it - it was sick lol

@pungentzeus hahaha yeah we definitely talked then, that's what's up man hope you're doing well!

You're kids are gonna love it

Yep this is the equivalent, this guys is from the future

I always wondered what they think when composing such complex songs considering they have to perform live
Tobi and Dean are such a sick match. Can't wait to hear the next album whenever that's ready!
I love archspire and everyone in it. i wanna see em live soooooooooooooo bad
They're every bit as good as their recordings. Nicest guys, too.

saw them last saturday, pretty awesome facebook.com/events/1964476387156248/
One of the best bands I've seen live and that's before I even properly got into them. Bought some merch instantly after their set
that fretboard is the sexiest thing ive seen.

Damn, this video has like every bit of detailed sharpened. I think I saw an atom...
I thought the same...what an amazing recording. Not sure what they did differently but holy moly it looked very very good.
I noticed the lighting was brighter and they may have actually used a sharpener in post.
i think it because they convert the video from really hi res to this (1080p)
Stay Tech.
Didn't expect to see you here
The album's amazing tho
Song started and I was like "sounds fun."after like 1min I was completely blown away

Dude is insanely good. Throwing the tone switch in the middle of those already crazy hard riffs to accent those sweeps, just unreal man.
Don’t know much about guitars, but that note that echoes at 2:32 is brain piercing . I love it
It's called a Pinch Harmonic
The echo on the pinch harmonics is awesome.
Tobi and Dean are Monsters, love to see them playing...Very interesting his picking techniques
the way he holds the pick and switches the angle is impressive

@ändrew Salter but he tilts it the wrong way!

Phenomenal guitars and an even better guitarist.
swaping the pickups between the sweep and the rythmic, so nice
