What i love about Horst is that up until now, every time i have cracked open a bottle, and watched his video while sipping, his notes were percise and on point. Every single time, he gets it right. This man is a true Digustator. Cheers to you, Herr Leuning.
Absolutely, one of my favourites! Got to drive past the Distillery, but unfortunately, was on a time crunch, so was unable to visit. A return is definitely on my bucket, or shall I say, "bottle" list!
I absolutely love this single malt . A true masterpiece as horst says . Thank you horst for your as per usual your excellent and precise review. Any bottle I buy I am right onto you tube and play your review as I sip away .
Noobie note: Just tasted the Dalwhinnie 15 year, after having had maaaaaaaaaaany drinks of the Glenfiddich 12 year, some (maybe, two bottles, at home) of the Talisker Skye, and a single of the Lagavulin (out at a bar) - and, having drank a number of other types of alcoholic beverages (including, but in no way limited to, whiskys other than Scotch (I must confess to some of the more "common" beverages). I must say, the Dalwhinnie 15 year is the best I have tasted yet. Second only to H2O, in my humble opinion...
15 years old,but only £30+!!!A bargain, totally.Sweet and fruity with depth from 15 yrs maturation...Good stuff...recommend to beginners and experienced drammers!🥃🥃🥃
Think i over paid at $90. But i think its the best scotch i've ever had (but the dalmore 12 year, is close to 2nd). Thank you for walking me through the flavors and history
I bought a bottle after watching a couple of Horst's reviews. It's a great whisky. At first it hit me very strong...surprisingly strong in fact...but I put a few drops of water in the dram and let it breath for a few minutes and WOW...what a range of flavors in one sip. Fruity, honey, vanilla on the tip of your tongue with mild oak in the back of your mouth...some smoke all around. As you let it breath more its gets more fruity up front.
I've been drinking Dalwhinnie 15 for more than a decade. It's always available in litre bottles in every airport duty free (except Canadian airports about where one should find a rye). It is what I order in pubs and bars to introduce people to single malts. But I also keep it in my cabinet at home as a very satisfying representative of several of the wonderful characteristics of great malts -- honey, peat, spice and a dry tea note. The peat doesn't appear in the nose but does in the taste.I have started to put the teaspoon of water in mine, but to bring out the characteristics. I commend Diageo for not screwing up Diageo 15. (As Ralfy opined, the Blue Label Distiller's Edition is not worth considering -- just try a bottle of the regular 15.) Brava Diageo! Wish I could say it more frequently.
I've had a tour through the Dalwhinnie distilery, we bought both this very whisky and a Higland park 10 yo. I preferred the Dalwhinnie as I found it way more smooth and easy to drink. It's pretty fruity and tastes like honey. The highland park was much more ruggid and smokey
+Mustanglover10 Good to hear. Because when I picked up this one from the shelf (mainly because of the cheaper price compared to the same age statement Highland Park) I wasn't sure if I had made the right call. I must say I am overwhelmed by the experience of the Dalwhinnie 15. Anyway, glad I went for this and not the other!
Rather nice this whisky...quite thick, oily mouthfeel..nice sweet flavours and a little complexity due to 15 yrs old!So easy to drink..struggle to make this last a month!😳
I can't seem to taste all of these flavors he's mentioning. Green apples, red apples, STRAWBERRIES??? I guess I'm just unsophisticated. All I smell is alcohol and that 'scotchy' smell that I just can't seem to put my finger on.
Sorry to hear that. Experience and time will help you. Try adding half a teaspoon of water and leave the glass resting for 15 minutes, covering the top of the glass with something during this time. You will then be able to distinguish more aromas. You cannot miss the apples...impossible
My nose and palate has improved from a couple years ago, but I still don't get all the different fruits you mention in this whisky. In fact, most whisky I my nose and palate will pick out caramel, toffee, chocolate, raisins, nuts, and maybe orange/citrus. I'm not too good at picking out pears, apple (red or green) or stone fruits like apricot, peach, etc. I guess my nose is better with sweet dessert type smells than fruit. When I drink Dalwhinnie I associate it to honey and light camomile tea, and that's pretty much it. It's a very nice and enjoyable experience but for the price here in Ontario I want a bit more interest.
*camomile tea* haha, well played. I can't forget this whenever i drink this whisky now ! I just gor a bottle in Switzerland for about 37$- Its amazing avlue for money imo.
Ok so I'm a real newcomer to the world of whiskeys, i just turned 18 on boxing day and for the past few years with my dad and my sister have gone on holiday to the beautiful city of Edinburgh, one of the best places in the world I'd say, full of culture, wornderful architecture, you name it. I've been 3 times now and during my last two i bought a souvenir bottle of whiskey, the first bottle i bought was of edradour aged 10 years and last time i went i bought a bottle of oban aged 14 years. These two i won't drink, they're in 20cl bottles, I'm going to keep them throughout my life. I got quite intetested in the whole world of whiskeys and forvmy birthday ,y dad got me a book on 101 whiskeys, I've not put it down. I wanted to add to my collection now thwt i can legally buy it myself so i found a website called whiskeyexchange or something similar and i had a look, i didn't have a lot so i got a cheap bottle, i bought myself a 20cl bottle of Dalwhinnie 15 and 5cl bottle, the big one for saving and the smaller one for trying. I have two little bottles, this and a small one of the famous grouse, there was no way i could keep it so i decided to ooen it the other day snd finally use my glencairn whiskey glass. I'm going to be honest it was disgusting haha but thst was my first time, now gsve myself a little time I've tried it again and it's growing on me. I opened up the little Dalwhinnie bottle the other day, thiscwas my first whiskey thst looks a bit more. ..fancy compared to the famous grouse if you know what i mean, with the beige packaging and little bit of history on the box. I tried it and it hit me how spicy it was, damn haha like i said I'm new to all this. Anyway I've given myself some more time and I'm taking my time to smell it, let it sit in my mouth, and I'm enjoying it more and more. This is my first ever whiskey review video so when you stsrted testing it i didn't know what to expect, after a few minutes i could see thst you really have a passion for it and it got me really interested so i got out the Dalwhinnie sgain and poured a little into my glass and I'm trying this it as we speak, i'll be watching much more of your videos from here on my friend.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I hope you will find your further whisky journey joyful. One thing that you will find out when you enter the world of whisky and whiskey. There is a difference between whisky and whiskey. www.whisky.com/information/knowledge/about-whisky/history/looking-for-scotch-whiskey.html
+ThePlugga44 100% Normal man. Something similar happened to me, i used to drink whisky now and then just with friends, usually mixing it with coke or stuff. My father doesn't like it very much but he had a few cheap bottles, a red label, Ballantine's and a famous grouse. One night i just decided i wanted to like whisky, always seem something so fine and full of class, as you, at first i didn't like it much, it was a harsh flavour for me (Being such cheap whisky's didn't help either). So i kind of left the whisky world for some time, then i said to myself again, im going to like this stuff so i bought a bottle of Dewar's White label, and started drinking one dose every one or two nights, oh boy, do i like whisky now, i'v been to scotland, i'v tasted a balbair 1990's second release a glenfiddich 18 yo, a deanston 12, and so far been loving them all. It's really an acquired taste, you have to want to like it, and once you do, oh boy is it great, just one of the finest if not THE finest beverage in the world. I hope it grows in you, you won't regret it, As for me, im saving everything i can cause i have a deal near my house, a Macallan fine oak 18 Years old for 90 dolars, it's just insane!! hahah Cheers mate!
+Francisco Guinazu thanks for the words, yes i have started to like it a bit more lately, i appreciate it more that's for sure, it's not so much the actual whiskeys i like (though i do) but more so the stories behind each one.

Always a fan of these reviews that are informative, well researched, and entertaining. Slainte!
I love sweet whiskeys, this one captured me. Try it along the Vivaldi's 2nd movement from Winter. It sooths the soul
Dad's favorite, with a good cigar! Life is good!
Wonderful drink, one of my favorites.
I believe this is my third time trying this Whisky and it gets better each time. Cheers!
Very good and informative review. I wouldn't go as far as to say that it is a masterpiece, but it's certainly a good and enjoyable whisky.. 88/100.
Think i over paid at $90. But i think its the best scotch i've ever had (but the dalmore 12 year, is close to 2nd). Thank you for walking me through the flavors and history
15 year single malt 43% at this price point, I think it is the most under estimated spirit.
I love your reviews!

I only picked up pears and honey - perhaps toffee.
Excellent video and very educational. I really enjoyed it.

The Higland Park 10 is a crap whiskey, try the 12. That one is much better
Excellent video. I prefer this one over the DE bottling. I find it more balanced and clean. Thanks
How do you prefer this whisky, with or without a drop of water?
Rather nice this whisky...quite thick, oily mouthfeel..nice sweet flavours and a little complexity due to 15 yrs old!So easy to drink..struggle to make this last a month!😳
Great job on the Video, I sipped a sample as I watched
Me also! True story! Slainte!

You know Horst likes a whisky if he takes a second sip..
The link in the description is wrong, links to glenmorangie lassanta...
@Dean Moran

reptilianskin Do you find the more you 'practice' nosing and tasting, the better you get? I'm still a novice but hoping to get more experienced

Hello Horst, what is in your opinion the best single malt for under 50 euro?
As per one source, 'Dalwhinnie' means 'meeting place'.

ThePlugga44 Stories are the best part ! Hahaha each distillery has its own uniqueness and you r right, that's what makes it so exciting.
It's definitely not below €30 nowadays. Cheapest I can find is €45.
Mr.Mister I paid 42€ in Rewe. Still reasonable price...
Its 35€ on amazon
$94.95 in Ontario.
Megawatt yeah. Not exactly inexpensive here in Ontario. Even an entry level scotch is mid-50s to $60+.
Its only $1.00 less in Montreal. Hard liquor is expensive in Ont and Que
Ouch. $65 here in the states
$95.00 here in Australia.
It's now $105 at LCBO, still very good price for a 15 y.o.
Which distillery is the highest?
where does the raspberry and strawberry come from??how does it get into the whisky?
Sherry casks
Verkostung? Tasting würde wohl besser passen ;)
Thank you. I changed it.
Is it rare.?
No
That microphone is killing me
He sounds a little like Christopher Walken
I have always found dalwhinnie completely underwhelming. Doesnt work for me. Great channel though.
4:42 Ohhh behave 😂
🙂👍
Smashed a bottle of this last night after 7 grams with my mate. Only had Aldi 29p cola though so had to neck it.
dalwhinnie 15 is similar in taste like southern comfort?
haha
I thought I got some light smoke from this. I liked it, but it went down as a poor man's Highland Park.
Heil luening :)
Ewerywun Vill Drynk Visky by decree!! No more Juice! Juicen Raus!
Man he's creepy.
Anyone else get the impression that he eats people?
Sorry but like all Diageo whisky this is tongue burning trash
lol my man it's 43%, it's basically flavored water compared to the 69% overproof rum I finished off last night.
Excellent video and very educational. I really enjoyed it.
