    It is not surprising that, in a period when the TR held sway and only occasionally an independent spirit ventured to question its authority, the first GNT to be published in America was the time-honored Textus Receptus.

    I'm not fluent in Greek AT ALL but some of your pronunciations are incorrect. I know a lady from our congregation who is a native Grecian and she helped me. The correct pronunciations of certain letters you pronounce wrong: veta (not bayta) ghamma (almost a hawking sound NOT 'g' as in going), thelta (not delta), zehta (not zayta), pee (not pie). There are a few others I can't remember right now.

      Your friend uses a modern Greek pronunciation. As I was trained using the Erasmian system, I continue that usage here.

      @@Craigs_Veritas_Bullet1n If you are not in university then try to learn the modern Greek. Erasmian way of speaking is sadly considered to be "the gold standard" for academia, but Greek people find it offensive. And rightfully so imo

    • @SisterBaby
      @SisterBaby 2 года назад +5

      @@Bellg These are lectures in New Testament Greek, which is Koine Greek, NOT modern. If your aim is to study the N.T., you need to be learning Koine Greek.

    • @Bellg
      @Bellg 2 года назад +3

      @@SisterBaby You misunderstand me. I know very well that this is Koine. However, I still believe that learning that which people nowadays call the "modern" pronunciation of said language is the superior choice imo. The Erasmian pronunciation system is not an organic thing upheld by a people, their culture and faith. It is also, frankly, just ugly. It is a product of western academia. Of people who thought that they were somehow justified in discarding the actual pronounciation of liturgical and biblical greek (as found in any and all orthodox monastic communities) in favour of some made up scheme based on speculation and guess work. Erasmian pronunciation is an insult to the memory of the people who, throughout centuries of persecution, kept the torch of (biblical) greek burning. If you want to engage with Greek then learn it from those whos fathers bled and died to preserve it. Not from some Dutch guy.
