That C6 is a lovely car. My first encounter with a Citroen was as an 11 year old in Malawi getting a lift home in a DS Safari from school - glided like it was going across a billiard table. This was 1965 and Malawi was a newly independent country with bugger all resources and the roads anywhere away from urban areas were atrocious. By comparison, my father had a '65 Vauxhall Victor 101 deluxe estate which was like a bag of hammers on said roads.
I was so scared of my DPF after 170'000km, then I sold the car. A 320dA 2008 Last diesel I owned. It would normally start the regenerative cycle just before exiting the freeway... Smelled like a burned oven parked. Was economical at the time but so glad it's in the past. These things are born crude!
Glad you stuck with the C6 - I know at one point you fell out of love with it a bit given the problem after problems that you've had, but man, just look at that thing. It's absolutely stunning. Absolutely timeless design that still looks contemporary even today.
DPF is regular problem. Tru fact is that C6 was designed to run on motorway environment that allows this DPF being regenerated as it should. When these cars like others as well become work commuters mainly around town , thing like this happen... Also other things that are usually wrong with car that not mechanically minded owner is not informed off can cause these problems. I am glad that people like you attempt repairing C6 as they really unique. Especially 3.0 V6 petrol or later 3.0 V6 diesel. I have owned my own C5 X7 and now also C8 next to Galaxy from same era :) wish all best and my advice not rev as hard when it's cold 😅 they sensitive beasts :D
That reminds me of when i was an apprentice working in hgv r&d, one of the guys took a truck off the rolling road which had no exhaust after the turbos (it was piped through the wall during the test rather than onboard silencer). Unsilenced 17.5 litre v8 made a most excellent noise and brought people out of the design centre to see what the noise was.
White smoke - habemus papam! The crossfading to the steam train and back to the french Diesel engine: just perfect 🤣🤣🤣 ! Good news that the C6 is back on the road. Have always a nice trip! See you --- Martin
So there was me thinking it was Chav's in Fabia VRS' that pulled like a train..... 😂😂 I was expecting you to do a burnout with the C6 in the driving shots 😂😂 Great little tinkering video Rich.
I waited for the SW version ... never arrived ... , but this video remembers me of watching my C5 XTR HDi exhaust line for the cerine and the FAP fluid :)
Thank you for a really good video. The tick-over sound was absolutely awesome! And the visual gag was not only very funny but beautifully slotted in. Thank you, Mr Upndown. A much appreciated laugh.
It sounded nice with the open exhaust. Just burbly enough. Those turbos do suck up the loud noise and just leave enough grunt. Glad the DPF was able to be cleaned out. The stuff that came out was gross. It's time for a nice ride and see the improvement.
The exhaust smoke was still better than a Passat estate I remember MOTing with 250K miles on it. It took 30 minutes for the black smoke to clear to do the emissions test, & three attempts for it to pass (in 1998 BTW)
I guess the smell of wee is because the additive thingy has a load of urea in it, like AddBlue or whatever. Probably good to have it in there when the cat/dpf is replaced, so it can then be rushed through an MOT emissions test and "ooh look, its working now" until the urea runs out. Looks vastly better though.
"Run it without the exhaust" is definitely a necessary, compulsory diagnostic procedure, or something 😁 has to be done. Nice work on the exhaust reconstruction works. The DPF is a big porous lump of silicone carbide (I think) well, regardless of the material, it was obviously absolutely sopping wet after the cleaning, so no surprise on the steam engine impression. Question really is whether you follow the Betty example and "add lightness" to the exhaust further downstream in the hope of letting a bit more 6 cylinder noise out - am sure that rear box is very heavy... (Would have to reinstate the C6 downswept outlet though)
I liked watching the C6 stop in front of the camera, and rather than dropping the tail like most cars do, it lowers down gently! Must be a big part of how smooth it feels to drive
With the c5 and c6 range that uses elloyes avoid being a £10 Charlie, every time you open the filler cap door it pumps alloys into dpf/cat it builds up and hardens blocking them up like what your seen with yours. So fill up tank to avoid elloyes build up.make sure the elloyes pump is working using a code reader to activate the pump and check filler cap switch is working. I’ve been down this road with my c5 where the ecu did not detect low level elloyes in the tank toasting the pump and we know what happened next the dog blocked up.
I suspect the recent boost leak is the current issue, though the fact it's dpme 165k miles and many of those being short, stop/start journeys probably had a bigger impact.
Great work! You'll have to let us know if it feels different to drive now. By the way, how did you get on with the 5W40? I'm just about to order the service bits for mine. I have the oil pump chain rattle on mine on start up too and it would be nice to get rid of that!
Are you sure you don’t have a boost leak? The amount of smoke with the dpf seemed a lot. I run all my diesels with the egr and dpf deleted and on my fabia I decatted it. And there was less smoke than your c6… seems odd to me 😂. And genuinely couldn’t believe how much crap came out the dpf.

We never really grow up, regardless of age maturity or how much we try to convince our partners. 😉 That's quite a widely spaced and thin flange to get enough pressure on to compress a composite gasket. Nice job modifying the pipe connections.
One thumb up for the "immaturity" of gratuitous revving. A crowd pleaser, to be sure. At least to this crowd? Another thumbs up (if I could give one) for letting it go on for quite a bit with gratuitous drive bys as well...
The DPF was clogged because there was too much soot in the exhaust. you can see clearly without the exhaust system. Turbocharger defective, injection quantity too high, injection nozzles defective, too little compression. The DPF will clog again
On my next 407 coupe 2.7 V6 i want to take out the DPF beacuse on my previous a blocked DPF caused to get the whole car on fire because the flexible pipes in front of the DPF failed fro the pressure and the hot gas lighted something. It has a pretty decent sound without anyhing 😁

Such a beautiful car that c6, inside and out, for me, best looking saloon ever.
I liked watching the C6 stop in front of the camera, and rather than dropping the tail like most cars do, it lowers down gently! Must be a big part of how smooth it feels to drive
Kinda. It's not as good as that on the move, but it does behave in an odd way compared with normal suspension.
With straight pipes it almost sounds like the Audi R18 LMP1 cars!
Does it maybe need new eolys fluid to as it was so blocked?
Was refilled around 40k miles ago, I think.

The comedy on this was spot on 😂
Does it have remap, it should not give that much black smoke without dpf.
I suspect bad remap and thats reason for blocked dpf.
EGRs, injections, protocomers, turbos, map... something is wrong...
My C6 2.7HDi doing regenerations on ~400km
It's not remapped.
No Re map just lot of short journeys when I had her!
So by my reckoning there’s just the bulbs, the hiss and the slightly truculent gearbox ( if it hasn’t cured itself fully) to make the C6 perfect ?
It wouldn't be close to perfect, but it'd be much better.

The unmistakable sound of a tdv6
Great video
hiss could be boost leak as was fair bit of black soot with dpf off
I think this is likely. Pretty sure there's a boost leak, which would cause excess soot.
Sounds interesting
The smoke or steam was probably the prep fluid gassing off.
Most likely.
I'm sure those DS's are breeding.
Doing the opposite...
