Thank you for the update, Richard. You opened my eyes to the C6 and what a great car it is, in spite of the inevitable 'very modern classic' plastic issues. It's been interesting watching the series on this car, as all of your videos are. Hope that the rest of 2023 is better for you.
Well, I for one appreciate the C6. I once considered a 407 Coupé and whilst it would likely have been very expensive to run, it doesn't stop you wanting something unusual. It's been interesting to see this one's journey.
Family holidays to France were a game of chance in the 70's. Dad worked for Air France and could get cheap air tickets "if" we went standby. I don't remember being bored at the airport. We once flew to Paris and drove from Paris to the SW in a hired 1100 Fiesta. It took two days, When we went to bed, Mum said every time she closed her eyes, all she saw was those long straight roads with the Poplar? trees flashing by each side! Hope you managed to chill out nicely.
I'm in full agreement about the quality of French roads. All three of mine were even more of a dream to drive from Warsash to Newhaven, then Dieppe to 03370 Saint-Palais and back again. Every time. I even 'did' C6 CYX's (originally RO06 HRF) timing belts whilst there at the outlaws. (AND the coolant inlet manifold on the front of the fwd bank! -- A/c comp off [swinging on its hoses], alt off and reach up into the gap... The C6 was BORN for French roads!!
… we shouldn’t forget how much work, time and money you have put into the car to resolve and restore it. It’s a ton better than the vehicle you bought!!! I love it
Love your Vlog and your presenting style. It's always sad when you have to say goodbye to a car. I cried when I emptied my possessions from the first car I had to say goodbye to - after taking her from 15k at 5 years old to 120k at 7 3/4 ... and that was a NA maestro diesel - hardly a class car! I've only once sold a car that wasn't dead or dying (all the others scrapped or given to friends at my previously local garage) - the last one having 4 years of suspension failures at Mot's - I just couldn't afford to repair her fully, always battling the damage our lovely roads have inflicted. I'd love to do more of the repairs myself, but being a daily driver and my health making crawling around on the floor really painful for the next couple of days, I could never give them the love they needed. So, Mr Kitch, please accept all the positive energy and best wishes I can direct to you. Please use it to recuperate. To recover from the grief of having to part with a much loved car. All the very best!
I appreciate the C6, and what you've done to it Richard. The C6 series has been fascinating to watch. Glad the trip has gone well in the attractive C6. I guess such a trip was good for the car in the end. Perfect French roads.
Those roads 👍 in my humble opinion Richard whatever things are going on back in Blighty it is better to speak about it. Not publicly of course but it seems many of us this year have things going on, physically, mentally or both, and I have learned that to keep things too close to chest is not so good. I hope whatever is happening improves soon. As for the C6… still love it and I’m trying to think of a car I could let go (not a simple thing) to have space and funds to buy one. The previous owner wanted yours saved and that is commendable (as you said) and it would be great if it were to go to someone with the same ethic. My cars are pampered and many monies spent, not to hope to make a profit, but to keep history on the road. Anyway, if you ever wonder what’s going on in your world… remember… you own an SM. ATB.
As a C6 owner myself I've loved watching your series of vidoes on fixing things. It's the best (and possibly only!) channel on RUclips to document the highs and lows of owning a C6 combined with the practical aspects and your humourous presenting style. Thank you. I'm sad to hear that you're thinking of passing it on but I almost understand. Every time it comes to paying for road tax, MOT and repairs I think the same! (I hope you find a way to keep it.) I wish you every success.
good to hear all is well so far. Fingers crossed for the returm journey. I have lttle faith in just about any modern car. They all seem to break quite easily.
Sooooo happy C6 went with you (you sneaky so and so, you posted the Picasso pic on the You Tube short message!) - told you she’d never miss a beat, and really glad you now have that memory! Whomever takes her on next (and no, I’m not going to try to convince you otherwise) MUST commit to you what you committed to the previous owner - to keep her from the scrapper, so release carefully ! Great update Kitch, and looking forward to the next one Keep ‘em comin’! JCHK
I'd almost try to argue you should keep the C6, but if you think it needs to go you're in a better place to make that decision than any of us are. Just don't have any regrets about it mate.
Brilliant Video Rich, it's been great to see you working on the C6, one day I will have to make it over to Paris with the wife for.a break. That Clio you spotted in Paris was rather tidy.
Your post feels like the end of a difficult relationship with a beauty, which demanded a huge amount of effort but was just not reciprocal enough to contunue any longer. Don't worry, chin up, I am sure that there will be other Citroens >>> !!
Many thanks for another very good video. Good to her that you made it. I really liked the French scenery and music at the end of the video. Regadiing the reliability of the c6 may i suggest that some people seem to delight in saying that French cars are rubbish and unreliable. Pass the Picasso proves what mileage a Citroen is capable of. What an anazing achievement.
Good job with the vid mate ! Thanks for showing me the car... how bad is for DIY. I want one now Keep making good content with Interesting projects! More difficult more viewers
13:28 That problem does exist also for other makes. People somehow more and more refuse to seriously repair Your car while still demanding Your money for the non-work they _call_ repair. You, Sir, are blessed with Your own shop and knowledge.
It's interesting watching vids about older cars and I now realise my 2010 Landcruiser 200 in Australia is basically the same age. It hasn't missed a beat in the 13 years I've owned it and only had regular maintenance. That said it's only done 180,000km / 110,000 miles (mostly towing and off-road) in those years. V8 4.5L twin turbo Diesel, 6 Spd auto, About to set off on another 6000km trip to the desert, towing again
Outstanding work there Rich, getting her ready for a deadline, though I guess that doesn’t help with the stress. She is outrageously beautiful. She deserves to have cash lavished on her. Could you talk Jay Emm into buying her? ;-)
I remember those horrendous white in the front, yellow in the back 90s plate. Imagine removing the black ones off a black 5 series to put those. Grandad thought his beloved car was ruined.
Well summed up. The more you need to do to get to “that broken bit” the more likely you’re going to get something else to repair/ replace. Regardless of the make or model. Here’s a quick idea ( I’m full of these… ) why not transplant in a normally aspirated XUD ? It’s less complex, bullet proof and if you got a 1.7 HubNut special it will be “ unique “….. mmmm… might lack a bit of performance but would be “interesting “…..😂
I do, sometimes. I'm not a full-time Citroen mech at the moment, but there are certain jobs I can do. The petrol I did a head to head with a while back was a customer's car.
How about inserting a temporary filter into the cooling system and just leave it idling to see if you can catch some of the crap, or drain some off and see how long it takes to settle out?
Love the little montage at the end with the nice music. I love old Frenchy stuff. Does the C6 have a bypass valve solenoid? I chased an unknown 'whooshing' sound in my sister's Saab 9-5 for years until I replaced that part. It was slowly failing until one day it gave a p1110 code. Changed the solenoid and all was well. I enjoyed the series but did feel sorry for you, especially when you find yourself deep into something.. only to something else has gone wrong too. Arghh!
