@@markdillow1677 Let me get this right...You watched a 48 min video on how to make a proton pack prop...Just so you can trash everyone who watched a 48 min video on how to make a proton pack prop for their hobby...Because they rather spend their time building something, be it with their wife/gf/husband/bf/sex robot/it...and then put it in a display case, up on the wall or use it for a costume for a convention or Halloween around the corner. The time is spent being constructive versus going out and getting drunk, or doing drugs, or walking into walmart and licking ice cream...whatever your kind does that is extremely stupid...I mean, you did upgrade from Tide pods to licking ice cream, so...it's a start... And now you are lecturing people on how they should spend their time? This hobby is not about the past, this is about building something with your hands. This is about the enjoyment of doing something. Most folks would just buy it, but the folks that are watching this video are the ones who are going to forge ahead and make it themselves because they want to see if they can. They are like blacksmiths, or bakers. The should be applauded for the moxy to have the skill set and the ability to work with there hands. You are a sad little person.

If I get into vacuum forming things flush folding handles and alignment pins will definitely be incorporated into the bucks and risers. :)

  • @RebelMerc
    @RebelMerc 5 лет назад +3

I worked for a vacuum forming company and a few tricks you might use to make your work easier is for dowel your buck plate to your form. This keeps it from shifting. Second since you are using a buck plate set up a router table that has the cutting head at the exact height as the buck plate. Then you trim off any of the abs sheet with a sheer table of other tool then you simply use the router table to trim the part down. You can make a simple router type table but use a grinder attatched to a table where the blade is protected by a shield until you move the formed abs part into it. Hope this helps.

for the 4 blinking red lights... I would have lined the cones with reflective foil so the LED's would give off a more even and brighter light.

    • @prodestrian
      @prodestrian 5 лет назад +3

I think flat LEDs was a poor choice here, you can see the fourth LED is misaligned when the lights are flashing. With round LEDs it wouldn't have been an issue. I'm probably going to go with an 8mm LED per Cyclotron light, and line the interior with foil tape. Hoping to somewhat recreate the old incandescent bulbs they would have used in the film! 😊

Not many folks have the skills to build from scratch anymore. Too time consuming. Cheap, but whats everyone's time worth? I built one from scratch, hand made every single part and took me about 6 months. Used plans from GB fans and had at it. First ever project I made, with sound and lights oh my. Looks spot on comparable to the $$ kits you can buy, BUT , its still a POS compared to the "kits", according to most people who spend oodles of money on them as I found out.

    Great work.
Have you tried cutting the plastics(abs) with a oscilating tool? I have hear you mention MEK before, MEK disolves ABS so you can make a 'welding' paste/liquid by disolving waste abs with MEK, just be well ventilated when using MEK. it takes a long time to cure but effectivly welds the ABS together. When making bucks for vac forming we used to make the taller than required and put a score line around it to make a trim line in the form. Negative moulds/bucks can give you sharper lines (like for the shallow disk with the 4 red lights. also easier to get out as ABS shrinks. Can also use baby powder to help release.and blowing air through the vac holes can 'pop' the buck out.

You should space the speaker away from the board so it doesn't distort the rubber seal and or cone which will distort the output. Awesome video! Thank you

Great video, I appreciate you sharing your skills! It had never occurred to me to fiberglass reenforce a vacuformed pull... it’s so obvious and simple, yet completely outside “my view” of common sense.

As an added bonus to make it "pop" would be to possibly put light fibre inside the red and blue "tubes" or cables on the back...You could make them light up when the pack is turned on and "ernergised" ready for action.

Just abt finished on my Proton Pack build and have learned a lot of things and just wanted to sort of describe what I went through and solutions I found for my pack when building!
There also should be 2 videos of me show the wand in my recent one so if you would like to check it out go for it!!!
    Number 1: patients
Building one of these things is not like putting it together step by step, be patient! Yes trust me I know what it feels like you just wanna get it done but rushing will cause issues and will lead to problems of the Pack. Be sure to take a step back and let your mind talk and do the warm to if it meets your satisfaction.
MISTAKES will happen and things will not go accordingly as planned don’t get upset and don’t get annoyed/discouraged because there is a way to fix it I have run in to problems to the point where it would drive me insane and got to the point where I would eat cereal “Without Any Milk.....”
    Number 2: Budget
Being a freshmen in college and approaching my 20’s you know already that one single piece instantly goes up to $100 at it’s least. Explore and go on websites to where you can get a deal. One of people that def saved me when it came to money was “BenOfKentProps” that man is the most nicest dude I have ever met, I would talk to him and really just talk to him and be nice and honest. He gave me ALOT of tips and advice and support to save me loads of money so if your looking for all big and small parts Ben’s is the man to go too and just be honest.
    Number 3: Support
I was not alone in building this, I have had loads of help from Ben and also one of my family friends who knows some tricks get it done the solid way. I have also learned on easier solutions on what to do and not to do.
    Number 4: Lights
Lights, intriguing part of the entire process. I first bought a “ThrowingChicken” Proton Wand Kit and arrived in the male a week or 2 later. I then ordered the wand lights and came a few days later. The hardest part of it all was trying to make it as easy as possible cause let’s face it the “Proton Wand” Is by far the most hardest and most challenging thing to build and get it to look and work right. The proton wand alone took me a good 2 to 3 months to get it into starting shape when it came to the electronics.
The bargraph was tricky, the GBFans bargraph did not go with my proton wand “it was a bit bigger” so for a solution my family friend helped me widen the bar-graph frame “just a little bit of file and sanding”
I then bought a bargraph bezel kit from GbFans user “Spongeface” and slid the bargraph and the bezel kit was sort of lip for the bargraph to hang on to then super glued it into place
NOTE: be EXTREMELY careful I had to order another bargraph because I did not handle it properly and got damaged so be careful!!!!!
Then it was a matter of ordering and buying and waiting for the rest of parts and electronics to come in and putting them into there proper places and running the ribbon cable through the hose inside the main pack to connect to the cyclotron and sound board and to seal up the wand.
    Proton Wand ✅
    Number 5: Main Pack Lights
So this is a mistake on my part, I went through 2 soundboard because I was not careful enough and short circuit/burned the power. It was my fault so be careful of the wires being exposed and touching each other!!!!!
As I said earlier I rand the ribbon connection cable that connects the wand to the main board down the tube to the sound board then connected the sound board to the cyclotron main light board.
The cyclotron lights were a bit tricky so I found online a cap to hang the lights inside the pack shell itself and 3D Printed that on my “Photon Mono 4K printer” printed out for “Had to give it a few tries” then glued em BUT I messed as I put the red lenses in instead of the clear acrylic lenses so all it showed was red and not the other color modes. I could not find the acrylic lenses I had so I just went to Home Depot and bought a acrylic “Plexi Glas” sheet had some help cutting that then glued it into place printed out a cover cap for the lights and glued it into place.
I then had some help attaching some of the switches and the main battery switch and attaching the speakers and then cutting the blue decal for it to fit in the side and closely and carefully tried to seal it all up
    And then was it!!!!!!
    Main Pack ✅
    Proton Pack ✅
    Overview:
Building a pack is not easy and as being 19 years old and just starting college I had a lot of things to balance and it took a hell of a lot of solutions to get it to my satisfaction. things will be different and that what makes the fun of your prop! It can be different so if you add something that’s different from the movie that you like and is gonna keep and make you happy keep it and go for it!!!!!
I will be uploading a video of me showing off the pack so feel free to check it out when it’s up!
No if you excuse me, I have to go defeat “Gozer” and save the day!
Now, get to building and have fun!
most importantly “Don’t cross the streams!”
Thx for reading have an amazing day everyone/Everybody❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️
