There is no doubt that Martial Arts and even Wing Chun promotes good health and people that contribute to society in a positive way. However, remaining healthy may require you to fight to protect your life. After all, if someone threatens your life they threaten your health. Just a thought.
Sure. But the goal should always be to avoid having to fall back on violence in the first place, which is where a lot of people fail. They don't learn martial arts seeking to be able to defend themselves in the eventuality that they get attacked. They learn martial arts anticipating that they'll put themselves in situations where they can use violence and hurt people, and then draw on martial arts to hurt people more effectively.

I would love to learn Wing Chun's fundamentals from a legitimate school and add it to my arsenal.
Dread Lox this was back in June 2017. He can still move well and he’s very polite. Lol I was fanboying behind him when he was opening up the practice room.
Training with Ip Sigong Ip Chun and at the vtaa will always be a special experience for me, love Wing Chun and I would recommend it to anyone, great little video
His father never fought 9 people. Ip Man was a movie and pretty much everything in it was fictional. Wing Chun is functionally useless as a martial art. There are some elements of it that have practical application (some of the trapping techniques) that can be stripped out and applied to a more functional fighting system, but I'm unconvinced that anyone in history has used Wing Chun to win a fight against ONE opponent, let alone more than one.
@@ΤΗΞΙηΣΑζΤΞΚδ I do know. Ip Man's life is actually pretty well documented, since he's a relatively recent historical figure and we know rather a lot about him. And we know that the movie doesn't really reflect most of his life. The historicity of the movies is a well explored topic, and it takes very little effort to investigate these things. Ip Man never fought ten people in some kind of underground fighting arena being run by the Japanese (and there's no evidence such an arena existed), he never had a duel with a Japanese general. Ip Man also didn't experience the kind of hardship depicted in the movie during the Sino-Japanese war. The movies were not intended to be a biography. They're action movies. As for Wing Chun's efficacy: Yes, I do know. Wing Chun has been tested as a fighting system many, many times. And every time it's tested, it fails. The hand trapping techniques of Wing Chun do have some viability, but almost everything else about the style is functionally useless. The linear movements, the way the hands are held out in front of you, the awkward, straight legged footwork; everything about Wing Chun that MAKES IT Wing Chun also makes it ineffective in a fight against anyone who isn't also using Wing Chun. Traditional martials arts in general have spent the last several centuries evolving in a direction that values tradition and rote more than functionality, which is why many of them fare so poorly in actual combat situations. The only time Wing Chun techniques have ever been used successfully in a fight is when some elements of Wing Chun are grafted onto more functional fighting styles, like kick boxing. On its own, Wing Chun has practically no combat viability. It's on roughly the same level as Aikido. The only more useless traditional style I can think of off the top of my head is taichi.
@@seraphinaaizen6278 Bruh... I'd respect this more if it were in a video analysis instead of a comment. To simplify what you're saying, Wing Chun has the same problem that every other tma style has, which is more about the way it's practiced, and its practitioners lacking actual combat experience; emphasis focused too much on "It's about peace and spirituality guys, I swear!" and not enough on "Surprise! Speed! Power!" Tests? I'll take your word for it until you tell me those tests are actually UFC/MMA examples, which LOL! Moving on to "everything that makes it Wing Chun"... I agree that it's a rather stiff style, but that's not to say there's absolutely no movement beyond the straight-forward blocks and attacks. Specifically, the only stance you ever see in Wing Chun very often makes funny looks at cat stance and more standard fighting stances irl, which is when a Master will start talking about different angles of attack that are still straight-line movements, but worth noting. tl;dr; the name of the game in any fight is speed and experience/muscle memory. Funny bashing on traditional styles; Shaolin is the most traditional style there is, and every master of it hammers home speed, power, and flexibility. A style is only as useful as its practitioner.
RESPECT! to be 84 and still practicing. Was Ip Chun ever great at Wing Chun even when younger? I'd say no and his understanding and fluidity of movement seems very different to Ip Man and others but so what he is still inspiring.
I studied wado-ryu karate for many years, so im not new to martial arts. When i studied wing chun it didnt just teach me techniques - it helped my mental health, helped me relax and focus energies into other aspects of my life. Ip Chun is living proof of this
I'm not going to say that I condone "senseless" violence, in the sense that it has no purpose. However I feel that most people tend to generalize all violence as senseless. Honestly, I believe that just because the majority of people throughout history have misused a tool, a means of gains, for negative purposes, to the point of causing perception on a mass scale of that tool to be switched solely to one side, does not mean that the possibility of the tool being used for the opposite side of the spectrum is ruled out. It's our own constructions, intentions, choices and decisions which are usually to blame for the results of the tools used for those very purposes, but eventually get blamed on the tools. Things can exist in positive and negative states, but their temporary state at the end of the day is ultimately a reflection of ourselves. What I'm saying is history has taught us that violence is senseless because of what men have used it for, service to the self in most cases, but violence, used correctly, with control and fairness in mind, most certainly can be used for the positive side of the spectrum.
A questi nostri fratelli Cinesi che hanno lottato x l'uguaglianza e la giustizia, e, ci hanno insegnato la loro cultura, dobbiamo dirgli solo Grazie.👍❤

The guy is now 94 and he's still in the same Wing Chun association, still promoting Wing Chun. He will probably do it till his last breath. Impressive.
Wing Chun can be so good if trained practically. While nonsensical violence is of course not the point, I believe it is still important to keep an open mind and train the practical side of things as well as accept moves from other styles. Every one Welcome to come check out my work on my channel :) best to all !
Back when I could afford the gym I was doing some recreational Muay Thai with my father. You know, stay in shape, vent some steam, seeking perfection (or at least, some of it. I'm lazy shut up). Sometimes there was sparring too. Nothing too violent nor serious. In 3 years there was one serious fight between two friends but it was supervised and under regulation (a bit like boxing rules). It was a memorable fight, tenseful, fast and powerful but nobody got hurt. It was amazing. Anyway, there was this 72 y old guy when I met him. He was doing this for a long, long time. I remember the first time we shook hand, it was made of steel. I weighted 210 pounds when I was in top shape, I miss the feeling. He weighted a barely 160, yet his attacks were twice as strong as mine. They didn't fend the wing, they ripped it. The sandbag made gunfire sounds. Useless to say, whenever we sparred I had to put my pride away. I am sure I could have hurt him if I really wanted to, a kick here or maybe a lucky jab. Of course I would be on the ground in the time I'd recover.
Wouldn't it be so amazing to go and take one of his classes? I would really like to meet him, listen to his stories, and learn martial arts from such an amazing grand master. Wishing him great health and happiness and I hope I get the chance to visit him in my life after the pandemic.
the stupidest comment yet that I've ever heard in my life. ....why don't Kung fu masters go into ufc to show the world that Kung fu is the best and not just for movies and show? simply put,you can't argue with the thousand years easily of Kung fu training, discipline and showmanship. Kung fu is about aligning oneself with peace, control, health with mind and body. it's not created for violence, it was established to defend themselves if attacked. but I guarantee you hands down Kung fu is the dominant force even if it was used in the ufc or mma type of environment.

Amazing! Let a man at this age still have such a perception.
Martial etiquette at its zenith. Deep respect Sifu.
I like how he mentions fighting 9 people at once joke, because he knows the only guy to ever do that was his father.
@@seraphinaaizen6278 as if you would know
@@ΤΗΞΙηΣΑζΤΞΚδ I do know.
@@seraphinaaizen6278 get a life, and don’t waste 20 minutes replying to a stranger on the internet.
Speed! Power!"
Tests?
I take my teachings from the old/ not in fighting alone but in education and problem solving. Thankyou for the stories. Just amazing.
Fantastic, a great example in his life so was his father
RESPECT! to be 84 and still practicing. Was Ip Chun ever great at Wing Chun even when younger? I'd say no and his understanding and fluidity of movement seems very different to Ip Man and others but so what he is still inspiring.
It would be so awesome to learn Wing Chun from Ip Chun.
Beetle Juice yes 😭😭
Thank you
3:21 life goals, right there. Martial arts during the day, delicious tea in the evening.

" *Don't mess up with this old man* "
A questi nostri fratelli Cinesi che hanno lottato x l'uguaglianza e la giustizia, e, ci hanno insegnato la loro cultura, dobbiamo dirgli solo Grazie.👍❤
At such an old age, look at his structure and technique. Amazing 👌🔥
Ill be happy if I’m still here at 84. But to still do what he does at his age. That’s amazing, and he doesn’t even want to retire.hahah.
GREAT PEOPLE, LIKE THIS MAN, ARE ALWAYS HUMBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ONLY LOSERS SHOW OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
100% Agree.
The guy is now 94 and he's still in the same Wing Chun association, still promoting Wing Chun. He will probably do it till his last breath. Impressive.
and the pipe !! invincable till the end.
Came here to pay my respects since it popped up in my recommended. RIP Ip Chun.
Duygulanmamak elde değil mekanın cennet olsun büyük usta
RESPECT.
Ip Chun is in the Movie Ip Man The Legend is Born :D
Wouldn't it be so amazing to go and take one of his classes? I would really like to meet him, listen to his stories, and learn martial arts from such an amazing grand master. Wishing him great health and happiness and I hope I get the chance to visit him in my life after the pandemic.
awww! he's such a cute old man!
I love old people, I just wanna give him a hug...if that's something okay to do>.
Ikr!!
It's not okay.
Michael Nguyen hahaha!
Shhh!He might find that a little offensive.
In 3 years he will be 100 years old. With his health, he can still be flying at that time😂
the stupidest comment yet that I've ever heard in my life. ....why don't Kung fu masters go into ufc to show the world that Kung fu is the best and not just for movies and show? simply put,you can't argue with the thousand years easily of Kung fu training, discipline and showmanship. Kung fu is about aligning oneself with peace, control, health with mind and body. it's not created for violence, it was established to defend themselves if attacked. but I guarantee you hands down Kung fu is the dominant force even if it was used in the ufc or mma type of environment.
i like what the old man says.
use it for improving one's health.
I'm Chinese and I agree with what u said. My grandfather practiced Wing Chun but I never learnt 😂😂😂
UFC and MMA have too many rules. It wont be real kung fu at its potential. Deadly.
+Aleme Lopez Kung fu is way of life like an art, but not a sport...
I know this jai
Dude is 96!!! Hats off to the man!
