- Selena Gomez and I have worked together since 2014. On this episode, I get into how we created our latest project together: the photographic art for her latest album, “Revelación.” The song lyrics are in Spanish, so we explored Latin culture-the colors of Mexico City, artworks by Frieda Kahlo and Diego Rivera-and worked with the photographer Camila Falquez, who through color interaction produced a fresh and modern take.
In addition to detailing the various looks, including a Valentino couture dress, I FaceTime with fashion icon Giambattista Valli, floral designer Laurel St. Romain, emerging design talent Harris Reed, and Selena herself.

References:
Godet: an extra piece of fabric, in the shape of a circular sector and set into a garment, usually a dress or skirt.
Grosgrain: a strong close-woven corded fabric, usually of silk or rayon, and often with cotton filler.
Horsehair: a crinoline netting (usually made of plastic) that can be used as a decorative trim, or as an internal stiffener.
Mermaid: a style of evening gown that fits closely to the body through the torso and hips, then "fishtails" out in a flare to the floor.
Paillette: a piece of glittering material used to ornament clothing; a spangle.

First of all, thank you for your efforts in Revelación. This was definitely one of Selena's best shots. The colors and the message were very clear. The 2017 Met Gala appearance made everyone fall in love with Selena. But please let me say: Dress up Selena younger. Many of her looks in the LYTLM era made her look well above her age. She's still a young woman, she' should wear little attractive, some casual dressed. Exaggerated clothes and heavy make-up make her look older. Congratulations on your channel, I'm excited for the next video. And loves from Turkey 🇹🇷❤️

The vision! What fascinates me the most is how consistent everything looked, even though every designer had their own idea and influence for why they created those pieces. In the context of this shoot it was all very fluid and tied in together beautifully and really resonates w the idea that art can be interpreted in millions of different ways.

I really enjoy the care and love you show when describing the clothing. It’s beautiful to see the design and craftsmanship celebrated in a world of ‘haul’ videos and fast fashion. I would love to see a video that shows your thought process with jewellery. It seems you’re very purposeful with each item, so would be great to hear how you balance the clothing with key jewellery pieces

I loved how you explored the structure of the blue dress. As someone who pattern drafts and sews as a hobby it felt really special to see this included. I must admit I'm not especially creative or into 'fashion' but I love garment construction. This video really balanced creativity and design. I love how you explain the concepts behind the creativity as it helped me appreciate this aspect more. Often most videos focus solely on style or fashion but this felt really comprehensive! So fascinating to hear about the journey to these shots. I can’t get over the sequins - I had a vintage 1930’s wedding dress with a train and which was beaded and had little cream flowers all over. The flowers had flopped forwards and you couldn’t really appreciate so my mother hand sewed each one so that they lay flat and open on the dress, it took her weeks. So I really appreciate the work involved sewing each of those sequins! Beautiful outfits, and Selena looks like perfection, amazing work. Xx

Thanks! This was also the same dress that was about four sizes too small so we chopped half the sleeves and made them into panels. I still feel guilty! Size 12 meant something different nearly 100 years ago 🤦♀️
