There seems to be more negative portfolios in the last 3rd half of 2023 with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. What is interesting is the idea that "we have not seen debt levels like this since WW2". That era was starkly different. At the end of the war, the US was the only industrialized nation around. They were able to quickly put all that excess cash into rapidly expanding the economy and giving people a better standard of living.
    That option no longer exists. Structurally, the US can only give money to the people who need it the least: banks, large corporations, and the defense industry. If we want the US to re-industrialize and become "competitive with China" somehow, this will not be possible without a complete revolution in our government, financial, and education systems.

      That's a very accurate summary! U.S. emerged completely dominate on the world stage from WWII. The Soviet Union had lost 26 million people due to the Nazi invasion and 1/3 of the Soviet economy and infrastructure had to be rebuilt. That actually put them at a huge disadvantage in the Cold War that followed.
      Currently, the U.S. has run up immense debt but much of that investment has been squandered on the military, wars, and bailing out Wall Street, banks, and corporations. U.S. faces a huge headwind to modernize and compete despite the dominance of its tech companies and the dollar. 🤔

    This despite it not being that difficult. All the decoupling is going to do is ensure China exports its goods and services elsewhere in the world.

    2016 China owned 1.4 trn in treasuries and 8% US debt. Today 0.7 trn and 2.5%. China doesn't buy or sell US bonds, just rolling off debt. In four years with the same development it will be 0.1 trn and almost 0% of US debt. Then the Petrodollar can die

    Hair looking good!
    It's amazing how in those sort of "woke" times, "being a xenophobe" was pretty much the #1 cardinal sin. (now the #1 spot seems to be "being a transphobe".).
    It's even more amazing how since 2022/Russian vs Ukraine, certain types of Russophobic and Sinophobic xenophobia are literally ENCOURAGED by the state.
    Remember when Facebook was "debating" whether posts that publically call for Russians in Western countries to be exe.cuted to be OK on their platform?

      Woke was just another "movement" co-opted. It was suppose to be about being aware of injustices like black people being targeted by the police abuse, sexual abuse in the film and tv industry, etc. So when people like Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump co-opt such movements about injustices like that, it ruins the point. These two, for example, don't care about Palestinians. They co-opt Christianity, but their behavioral history are nothing Christ-like.

      @nurainiarsad7395 Spoiler Alert: you don't pay for some of these military bases. The ones in SK, Japan and Germany, the local government pays for it, I kid you not. The majority of the money that you pay goes to R&D, Boeing, LM, and good luck trying to praying the money out of their claws. And ex-Boeing employee that had an lawsuit against them was just 'found' 'suicided' in a parking lot, RIP.

    • @LyricsQuest

      By stimulus, you really mean inflation? When I think of "real stimulus", I'm thinking of the growth of the "real economy" and people's median wealth.

    • @johnhernlund539
      @johnhernlund539 Месяц назад

      By far the largest bond market is US treasuries. A couple years ago the Fed dumped trillions into asset markets, holding more than $9 trillion total. Later they they announced a plan to reduce their balance sheet, however, they raised interest rates and the government needed to borrow more money to pay the interest on the debt...more than the amount that the Fed is decreasing their balance sheet. So basically, the market stimulus is moving off the Fed's credit and onto the US gov't debt ledge, and it is increasing.
