    Hi there... I just want to mention (Im from Australia where these birds are native) that they don't actually live in a tropical rainforest environment... they live in a dry, semi-arid region of Australia so I don't think you need to worry too much about humidity.

    My budgie spent a lot of time outside of his cage and used to like things that were fluffy like slippers. I was leaving for school one morning in the winter and I had a fake fur border on my coat. Mr Budgie flew to it as I was going out the side door( sliding). I didn’t know he was on me. I hadn’t gone very far when J realised this. I tried backing up back into the house but he took off and I remember seeing him fly over rooftops higher and higher. But I don’t recall if we went looking for him. I do remember my mother and grandmother telling me the chances of getting him back weren’t good. I also don’t remember crying. I’m sure I did. They got me a new budgie and there was no bond. My Chirpy will always be remember mainly for trying to have sec with my slippers and as it would turn out- my coat!! We’d always been scrupulously careful to make sure he was locked up whenever the doors or windows were open. I was sure he was in lockdown before I left.

    I'm getting a budge soon and I can't begin to explain how happy I am. I've been watching as many videos and writing it all down sence Christmas wen I learned I'm getting one . I want it to be happy and healthy as possible.
    I had budgies wen I was little but I didn’t take care of them probably and was to rough and I’m hoping I can make up for my past behavior and be a good birb owner. I have adhd and was extremely exsplosive as a kid and I got mad wen the birds bit and I grabby like all children.I still regret being mean to the bird and while I never injured ( probably traumatized it though ) my budgies I did , throw it once because he bit me ( Charlie but my finger, ( his name was Charlie ) and I regret it a lot. He was fine after no injury’s, but it was still wrong and my god I hate how careless with animals wen I was little. Thank god I have a brain now. I’ve had some experience with other bird too as of now; lasts year and the year before that I raised two orphan baby pigeons ( at separate times ) and saved a dove that fell out of the nest in really bad rainy weather that could of been swept away if it fell on the part side of rode that leads to storm drains. I wore gloves and put it back in the tree and I know it survived because A week later I spotted it wen It was old enough to fly hanging around the tree. There was also a bad hailstorm and a dove fell out of the sky and was getting pounded by hail so I ran out and put it on my porch we’re it had shelter, If the hail hurts me it had to hurt a lot worse for a tiny frail bird.
    I fell responsible enough for a bird and I can control my emotions now and am no longer a dumb elementary kid, now I’m in high school with stable grades ( which was the reason my parents agreed to a bird because I passed finals with all A’s and B’s despite how slow I am ) I’m also lonely as frik so instead of makeing human friends I can have a bird freind.
    Congratulations if you actually read all of that btw. That was my “dramatic” life story. ( I will update wen I get the bird )
    Also it’s best not to get young children bird and exspect them to take care of it

      I did the same thing as a child and looking back all I can ever feel is guilt for it, I really sucked with my parakeet, fed it the colorful fruit pellets, never cleaned it’s cage and i handled it as if it was a wild rabid rat. I was so rough with it. Now I educated myself after giving him/her (I never checked) to a family member that is in love with the bird. I’m ready for one but my parents would never let me😓

      Would a ceramic heat emitter (the kind for bearded dragons) work for a budgie? I have thought about this before.. Im sure you'd have to adjust the mounting method for safty and ensure its not close enough to make thw bars hot.. But in general arent they the same so long as the wattage is the same?

    Why a tropical air? They are from the Australian outback, not the tropical Amazon. Although I can’t confirm, the climate of the Australian outback seems a bit dryer than that.
    Perhaps the fact that they are so far separated from their wild ancestors they could potentially have different needs.

There is a shelf slightly behind my dresser that we could have the cage too. I was wondering if I could just get a bird heat lamp, would that be fine? It's a chilly room, but would a heat lamp do okay to keep my budgie warm while in an air conditioned room??

      Hi :-) you can buy a perch with a rougher surface to help keep his nails trimmed! or a vet who sees birds can do it for you. Also a store like Petco sells nail trimmers for birds, maybe you can ask someone there how to do it

    • @LegendOfMoonDragons
      @LegendOfMoonDragons 6 лет назад +11

      Ok, super in depth here:
      From personal experience, those rough perches don't file down their nails, they're just uncomfortable for the bird, so they avoid them (they're also not great for their feet :( ). They're expensive and not worth it. Use natural branches as perches instead. If you can find Australian natives like eucalyptus or other safe woods that have bark on them, your bird will have fun chewing them and it should help file down their nails a little! Dowel is too smooth to do anything, and doesn't exercise their feet anyway.
      Cutting nails is fairly easy, but get a vet to show you how! If your budgie won't stay still, you'll need to catch them, and this can be quite risky if you don't know how to hold them properly (holding a budgie gently around the neck with two fingers and using the rest of your hand to hold their wings closed is actually better than holding them just around the chest, weirdly enough, because their neck is mostly fluff and it's super easy to break their sternum. You need someone with experience handling birds to show you, don't attempt it alone. They're very brittle little things!)
      Honestly, budgie nails don't normally need cutting; they stop at a certain length. The only reason I would cut a budgie's nails is if they're getting so sharp it's uncomfortable for you to have the bird perch on you (or if they start getting hang-nails or something). Prevention is better than cure! Natural, safe wood perches should keep nails to a manageable level. Smooth dowel won't do this! If you don't have any budgie-safe trees in your area, pet stores with a good bird section should have really handy screw-on natural wood perches that your bird will have lots of fun chewing!
      Sorry that got long, but I hope that helps!

    Should i spray my bird cage a little bit every now and then? I dont know if i should or not. And is it ok to have 2 cats and 2 budgies? I mean, my cats are chill but ill still take them out. I just want to know if the budies would get scared and something like a heart attack and stuff happened. Sorry if i sound stupid but i just want to make sure. Oh, this sucks... i just saw the part where budgies shouldn't be left alone for over 2 days. My family is a big vaca family and every year we go on 2 vacations so that would be 2 weeks away. I dont think i should get a bird now 😣

    • @synvirtus5605
      @synvirtus5605 5 лет назад

      I think they would be ok if they are in a room where the cats can't get them. If they are maybe put a towel over the cage. If you leave home for long periods of time then you probably shouldn't get budgies. Or you could try and get a bird sitter if you can. I have a lizard at home and when I'm visiting other family members for a few days I know who's going to take care of my pet while I'm out. There's usually always someone home.

    Hi, Alen!
    I am a subscriber of your channel that watches most of your videos. I have some recommendation for a video, it should be called “what to do with your 1st budgie.”
    My idea for this is that you will explain everything for people who don’t have birds (like me).
    These are questions (an idea for how you would paraphrase this?)
    1:Do you buy the cage before the bird?
    2: after purchasing a budgie do you set it free inside your house?
    3: what is the most best protein food product?
    4: how much time should you spend with them?
    5: how do you shower your budgie.
    6: how to potty train them.
    (That’s all I’ve got I will be commenting this in the other videos.)
    Thank you, Alen.

  • @maxwelldouma1641
    @maxwelldouma1641 6 лет назад

    For parakeets, you really do not need a heat lamp or other source of heat if your room is a comfortable temperature for YOU. If your toes get cold, put the cage up higher. Don't waste your money on something that your budgie won't need. A humidifier could be a good idea in the winter or if it is cold where you may be housing a budgie, but I would take it out in the summer/ warm months. I found, also, that parakeet toys and cages (and etcetera) is SUPER cheap online or on Amazon. BUT, look at the customer reviews, and research what the product is made of and how it was manufactured. I recommend using diluted vinegar to clean and wipe out your parakeet's cage. This is a very accurate seeming video to my knowledge.
