There is a real problem for me In where I live there are NO vets for birds. Only for cats and dogs. I'm scared if its sick what do I do ;-; Edit: I would like to share something with you guys, whose bird friends are sick. Do not search for get clinics. Vet clinics in smaller countries are often only for dogs and cats. Try searching for qualified vets who work from home. I suggest joining a Facebook group or something with people who own birds from your town. That way you can find a vet easier. I hope that helps And a little update on my bird: She is okay! Her legs are paralyzed, so she has trouble walking and she can't grab stuff but she is as healthy as ever
In that case, you will always have to make sure that your bird is 100 percwnt healthy, his her cage, food and water is clean. Be sure to provide him a varied diet. They often become sick in winter. U can use a fleece bla ket for that. Hope that helps.
Here’s a tip for the husks left in the food bowl (credit to the bird place I got my budgies from) - if in a shallow feeder, blow out the husks to see how much of their food is left.
I just adopted a second budgie and it's absolutely amazing to me that she's not a picky eater! My 9 year old budgie, Spock, is a ridiculously picky eater, but my new birdie Sasha (who is only a few months old) will try absolutely anything! her favorites foods are raspberries, peas, spinach, millet and even pellets! She's a natural healthy eater and I honestly celebrate every day when I'm cleaning her food bowls over how little food I have to throw out!
SeabassFishbrains Wow that's so great that you adopted a second one! (I'm sorry for the super late reply lol) Younger birds tend to try more foods and when they age they stick to foods they like and they are less interested in new foods. It's so great how you are giving Sasha a variety of food to choose from, and I hope you and your budgies have been well!
@@angelicap5190 Awe, thank you! I only just saw this reply. Getting a companion for Spock was one of the best choices I ever made (I finally got the courage to go against the outdated advice of Spock's breeder who had said that Spock would stop interacting with me if he had another companion) and both birds have flourished so much, they're both happier and healthier for having each-other
I used to hang the toy with the round plastic hollow balls near the cup. My budgie figured out if he threw the balls into his nearby foodcup, he could mount the round part of the ball without it slipping away. Such majestic creatures.
Yeah, I used to be against clipping flight feathers, but it's really an important safety measure if you live in a place that has cold winters, or just about anywhere that parrots don't live in the wild. Dying of cold, thirst or hunger while being terrified and confused is a cruel and horrible way to die. And definitely _do not_ buy a parrot at a pet store, especially if you don't live in a tropical country. Breeding parrots should be illegal in countries that have cold winters. So many birds die in minutes after flying away in the winter.
GabDubé I have to say, only an irresponsible owner leaves the window open when their birds are out. Get screens and don't let your birds outside without a proper aviary or harness if they aren't free flight trained, don't make them hang out outdoors in the winter either aviary or not. Indoor flight and recall training is the responsible thing to do when you own a flighted bird. It is perfectly acceptable to own a parrot if you live in a colder place as long as you keep your home heated properly and keep your birds indoors. Clipped birds don't get a healthy amount of exercise which leads them to end up at a higher risk for fatty liver disease which can be fatal. There are a handful of legitimate reasons to clip a bird (like if the bird is a horribly clumsy flier and isn't tame enough yet to be flight trained, or you're moving or taking your bird to a ton of vet appointments and you don't want your bird to take a fright flight in an unfamiliar or potentially unsafe environment) but the only reasons that people present to clip all captive birds are tied to irresponsible ownership.
a great tip for teaching a bird where it’s water is is to not only stir it around, but to put some on your finger and let your bird lick it off. eventually they’ll grasp the idea “oh that’s where the finger water comes from”
I do HELLA research before I get a pet, I’ve been watching your videos for some time now, if something happens to my bird, I know what to do, if I don’t, I know where to come!
I'm glad this video exists ! At least twice a week we give our budgies a salad . boiled eggs mixed with lettace . not all of them like it but we like to give it to them as an option .
After months of research, I finally got 2 budgies! But I am very protective over new pets so I am watching more budgie videos that are a bit more advanced (not just basic care). I’m so scared I’ll do something wrong, so I want to make sure I’m a responsible pet owner. Watching your videos help me understand more about budgies and I am able to care for my 2 babies (Louie and Patrick) correctly and that they can live a long, happy life! Thank you so much, Alen!
Why wouldn't you WANT to watch your budgies, especially when you first get them? I got my first 2 budgies 2 1/2 weeks ago and I LOVE watching everything my babies do!
I was just given 2 lovely Parakeets and am learning alot on how to care for them. It was fun watching them try Broccoli , spinach, and bananas ( and LIKE them !!) after eating seed all the time !!
thank you so much for this information! i did NOT know that eaten seeds look so similar to non-eaten. i checked my bird’s food bowl asap after hearing that. i got my dark blue parakeet, “Akkodha” four days ago (first time bird-owner here) and i’m still learning about how to care for him.
this might not be helpful for you but DO NOT feed birds an only seed diet. You could look for other videos on how to make vege chops for your birds, seeds are like fast-food for birds and should only be given as treats
Alex thank you very much for these videos these are important to me because I’m getting a bird later today! Edit) She looks like cookie but I’m going to call her Jasmine!

Small cat and dog bowls are excellent to use for bird food. And I found flat ones in the fish section to be used for bananas and other treats for the birds. They have no problem using them.
try offering them leafy greens as a start like Kale or collards, my birds love that. You could show them that it's food by nibbling on it and showing that you like it. Remember just because they don't eat it once doesn't mean they won't try it in the future. Hope that helps :)
Teflon cookware (pans, pots ect with teflon) let off toxic fumes that can make birds ill. its actually not good for humans, either. Try using stainless steel.
I love your videos there clear concise and easy to learn from it have 32 budgies some tame some not but I know all my birds there likes dislikes and habits.
Hey Alex! I am getting a bird soon but NOWHERE around me including pet shops have mineral blocks, do budgies really need a mineral block or is it a thing they can live fine without
Good video though I don't agree with the seed diet. Seed should only be used as a last resort for diet. Even if paired with fresh fruits and veggies. Pellets are ideal as they are packed with more essential nutrients that budgies, conures, cockatiels and other household birds require (and ideally should be given with fruit or veggies). Converting a bird to pellets is tricky but it is worth it. My conure won't eat plain looking pellets (I tried to convert her) but loves her fruity pellets. If your flock eats pellets then when a new bird is brought in, teaching it to eat pellets is a breeze because it will naturally take its cues from the other birds. I had four budgies on pellets with zero issue. I had two young ones that I started with and got them on pellets easily then all the rest that came into the family fell into line quickly. I only used seeds as a treat or if I am rehabbing the bird (I had a stressed/anxious male budgie and I needed him to eat so I hand fed him for a few days and gave him seeds until his strength came back and he ate his pellets again). You're right about young birds. They are easier to teach habits and introduce foods to. This is also when you want to bring in pellets.
maximum_bird my budgies are rescues and they refuse to eat pellets! I'll mix it with the seed the shelter gave them, and the jerks will pick out the pellet and toss it down. I've tried a different pellet sizes and brands. I tried to get tough with them and take all the seed out and just give them pellets leaving it for a few days, but I was afraid they were going to die, because they didn't eat at all and just fluffed up and got quiet... So now they get seeds, I'll try pellets every now and then but they refuse. This has been a 3 year battle. Our vet says they are in great shape and not over weight. ... They do always get veggies, they aren't fond of fruit either. They are picky lil things. its real frustrating
I have 10 Parakeets in a cage and I change the food twice a day and clean water sometimes 3 times. But Sometimes I have to change the water more often because it gets dirty. They get plenty of treats and fresh food that I eat like slices of bread, bananas, and other bird-friendly treats.
QUESTION Where did you get this water feeder? I tried to find one like that, but not many good options online. Maybe I’m not looking in the right pieces I really like the black one you have inside the cage I would like to get that one

Hey guys, i love watching your videos and they really helped me with my parakeet. My bird can perch on my finger, but when I try to take her out, she flies back to the cage likes she’s very scared of the outside part of the cage. I wanted to ask, how do I have her comfortable outside the cage.
