Hey, I just want to let you know that you have been doing an amazing job of your Indonesian series. It looks like you have researched well for your trip, including how you perceive food prices from most of Indonesians perspectives. Can't wait for your next adventure in Jakarta, if you still have more videos to come!
Bakwan is our street food no 1 people's favourite For sate ayam You got the taichan version Wich is dry, salty & spicy Normal sate ayam came with peanut sauce And they are verry good
The sate ayam taichan is a new creation. It was recommended by a Japanese in Jakarta wanting to eat the normal chicken satay with chili sauce / sambal. Hence, the name is TAICHAN (Japanese name). The original sate ayam is always with peanut sauce. Look forward to your food adventure in Indonesia!
The story is that the Japanese person wanted to make the satay himself when he shops for it at a Hawker, so he made a Taichan variant which we all know nowadays as the salty/savory sister of the Indonesian satay.
Hi Jimmy.. Indonesian here 🙋♀️ You should try Nasi Padang or Warteg. Those are some iconic local restaurants out of many. Their portions are moderate but with a bunch of choices you can paired up with rice. Hopefully, you will like it regardless any spicy level that they serve 😅 The way you pronounce the food names are on point 👍 Have a nice staying in Jakarta ✌️
just listening ur deadlyjimmy, i like lo fi vibe there. another comforting afternoon music, and my fav is mystery box, purple cylinder, hot white chocolate is such a nice tunes🤪. keep it work bro
Dutchie here!! Didn’t know it was called meises tbh, Teaching us something everyday uncle Jimmy! We call it hagelslag rn! We often eat it with bread and butter, kind of our “basic childhood” breakfast.. I bet every Dutch household has one basic pack of hagelslag from De Ruijter :)
yess it used to be called hagelslag too here in Indonesia, but my grandma told me that a long time ago the packaging of the best brand has a pic of young girls on it (I dont speak Dutch, but grandma said "girls" in dutch is "meisjes", is it true?), so people often said "i want to buy the meisjes one". overtime it became the more common name for hagelslag.. like how Odol that used to be a brand is now a word in Bahasa that means toothpaste
Everything was on point,i even shared this video on my facebook profile,so that people get to know about how huge Indonesia food is.Makes me want to book ticket to go to Indonesia for next year.Probably i could eat that meat, but i need no eat anything for 24 hours or so.
4:08 that's called "mi telur", which literally means egg-based noodle hence its color is yellow. it's a type of dried noodles that's being sold in packages without any seasoning packages, unlike instant noodles. so, it's different with instant noodles, and most certainly isn't from indomie.
You are a great chooser of food..at night you can see a lot of street food there..try terang bulan or sweet martabak and salt martabak..i guarantee you'll love it😂
Oppa needs a guide so he doesn't choose the wrong food. Because Indonesia is more than just delicious food. Hopefully you can spend more time traveling around Indonesia and tasting our country's typical food. Have a good time
7:05 lmaooo that's like indonesian's "kobokan". it's usually on street foods though typically, where there's no wastafels. except instead of lemons, indonesians used limes in their bowl of water.
Looks like you should visit the PlayStation cafe in Indonesia Jim, that's very interesting and I would really like it if you made a lot of content in Indonesia
Great description of bakso. Bakso is finely grounded beef with texture of fishcake and served with clear broth and noodles. That what makes it different from western meatball 😊
The wild Uncle didnt like wildlife (ants and insects.) 😂 I hope you got to visit the spicy Indomie Challenge place and Sate Senayan. And tried murtabak...
Jim.. try indonesian spiciest food too ^^. That't anther type of Chicken Satay Called Sate Taichan... u must try te OG one... straight to Street Vendor and with peanut sauce. we Called just simply a "SAMBAL" usually Balado term for Padangnese food and usully accompany with somekind of protein like chicken, beef or seafood like Shrimp and for vegetarian Friend Eggplant. The legend curry noodle i believe is from Penang, Malaysia.
Crying with laughter about the doctor Jimmy comments 😂. I can confirm that being a doctor hasn’t made my parents particularly proud or given me societal respect 👩🏻⚕️. Keep eating bro. You have mine 😊
uncle jimmy's jokes always make me laugh lmfaooo some of the punchlines are so unexpected 😭😭 the food looks so good!! much love to my southeast asian brothers and sisters!!!
I feel like it's a missed opportunity that you didn't have Bak Kut Teh - it's a herbal pork soup. If you ever visit Malaysia or Singapore it's a must try!
gosh, you were in my neighborhood. i live quite close to OTW Food Hub. never been there tho. i prefer to eat at the many noodle houses along the street. it's literally noodle street there :)
12:31 sate taichan, even though famous, isn't traditional sate/skewer/satay that we have. it's more of modern twist. traditional sate is like sate madura, sate padang, sate lilit, etc.
Reaction when the waiter bring the bug bowl: Wow.... (Amaze in English) Reaction when we see the ramen inside: Wooooo.... (Disappointment in bahasa Indonesia)
Did U Missed Ketan Susu Kemayoran store beside the Bakso Rusuk? Ketan Susu Kemayoran was famous food in Jakarta, and its so delicious and always crowded
you should come to places visited by Mark Wiens.. because those place are actually the perfect place to try original and authentic Indonesian dishes. Mark Wiens wont disappoint
Actually, there are more than 5,000 Indonesian foods with unique flavors and the majority of the taste is very strong, so for people who enjoy a lighter taste more, it may not be very suitable... and authentic Indonesian food that is quite famous may be tempeh, especially for vegetarian food and besides that there are satay seasoned with peanuts found abroad, especially in Asian restaurants
I think you should go to authentic traditional Restaurants in Indonesia, not those "trending dishes". I saw your IG stories eating Padang food though, can't wait to see that one!

Love your music Uncle Jimmy! Also, your sense of humour and content is immaculate. ❤

11:21 very much appreciated that you put a bit of our history! meises is indeed one of foods from dutch colonialism that we still eat
as an indonesian i agree with jimmys food choices in indonesia
So?
I'm glad I went to the right places 🫡

Now if I'm not wrong that's actually the name for the factory that produce it back when Indonesia is being colonized by dutch
I'm pretty the Indonesian names for the thing come from brand names like meises/meses and seres
Another good video like always! Keep it up

In Indonesian culture, if you can't finish your food, you can take it home and finish it later. You can ask the restaurant employee to wrap it
