I appreciate your honest reviews. It would be useful for other travellers. The thing about Thai curry-on-rice is that it's about mixing and matching. We Thai know what each curry tastes like (some spicy, some sour, some sweet) and will design what we want on our plate. For me, I'd match one spicy curry and one bland stir-fry veggie or sweet side dish. That's how you balance flavours.
The bamboo shoots at the cheapest buffet are so funky. I don't really recommend it to foreigners. It's an acquired taste, I guess. You should have tried other curry dishes and the fried ones. I went to this place once and I enjoyed most of the food, except for any dish with bamboo shoots of course. There was this fried fish the size of anchovies with Thai basil and it was delicious. Not sure if they were serving it when you went.
Pickled bamboo shoots in curry is a popular dish among locals. Thais like to mix in sour taste in many food. We have southern style Thai curry that usually tastes sour because of green papaya, pickled bamboo shoots, tamarind, etc. Some of them tastes similar to Kimchi such as Gang Som.
You are my new favorite to watch, you're super honest and your slightly skewed sense of humor is a huge bonus! I would love to go on a food tour with you just for the banter!
I have watched other youtubers go to that $1 buffet and I had my doubts about their yum reactions and I'm glad you were honest. I am allergic to shrimp, too.. But sometimes it looks so good you just have to eat some and pray 😅
It's depend on which food stalls but $1 buffet, they will likely make their foods in strong favor side for you to add more rice to eat with and also their target customers are mostly laborers who sweat a lot so people like this often eat strong favor food. If their stalls is near school or office the taste likely be not too strong or have some choice that not but in the end it depend on who cook. So many food stalls that cook food on their preference instead of their customers in Thailand.
The bamboo curry that you have tried, it’s fermented bamboo shoot. Thus, it has a unique sour flavor. They use fermented bamboo because it can be easy to find out over the year. Fresh bamboo shoot is available only rainy season. I prefer the fresh bamboo shoot rather than fermented one.

It makes sense to someone who never tried pickled bamboo shoot before, he is just unfamiliar to it or simply don’t like it. But it is my favor dish , I like it sour and spicy and salty
The $100 buffet looked a bit underwhelming compared to many other luxury buffets in SE Asia. In Bangkok alone, there are so many other buffets that probably have better quality food for a slightly lower price, especially at the luxury hotels (e.g. St. Regis). The $10 buffet isn't a place I would normally go to but wow that service!
I really love Thai street food. There are so many dish i love to eat again like, Garlic Chicken, Chicken Masala, chicken green curry, beef with red curry, and pork satay.
The wisdom buffet is quite common in malls. Walked past one and checked reviews on google. But when I also saw that paired with the price and the fact that no one was eating there, I passed. Plenty of buffets to choose from in generally most malls all around Thailand.
A Thai here. The best type of buffets in Thailand will always be the first two types in the video. Mostly because there are so much more variety (In my experience at least).
Damnnnn i miss the mookata buffets in Bangkok! Super affordable and it's really good quality too. When you said Siam Square I knew it was gonna be expensive for sure. I was very impressed with the dessert section of the $100 buffet you went. It was super fancy and you didn't have to walk for it 😂 But I'll still take the $10 mookata buffet anyday. 🤤
Oh, I didn’t know what mookata was! I thought it was a weird Shabu shabu grill haha. The $100 place apparently has a $300 option that is on a reservation basis. I would love to go back and try that one day when I can afford it 😊
I'm Thai. Glad you enjoyed your trip and had good experiences! I believe there are a lot of better options out there for $100. You can have a buffet with wagyu starting at around $40. Buffet at the most luxurious hotels can be from $50 - $100+ with great taste and better overall ingredients quality. If you go there next time I still encourage you to try other luxury food options (along with budget options of course!)
There’s different types of waygu cow and also bunch of different mixes. But what really makes the difference is how the cows are raised. When it says waygu i just assume it’s American or Australian blended waygu. And if it says Kobe or matsusaka then i know it’s the good good. Also check out the breakfast buffet at the Wardolf. Best breakfast buffet i ever had. I get it every morning when i stay in Bangkok.
When you eat Kao-Gang buffet or Kao-Gang dish. I recommend you should choose only 2 entrees of soup and/or stir fire. If you want to choose 3 entrees, you just add one of deep fired food. Your dish won’t be too soaky and too many tastes.
Omg the Wisdom International, I was there just last month with relatives. Funny that it's the place you went to. Iirc, we went up to Diamond tier and it was so much better than I expected. We did get a bit too much truffle items though which I had to stop eating because it got a bit sickening. Something to be aware of!
Budget food is always overseasoned to mask any unpleasant smells/flavours, because it's not as fresh and not the best produce available. That being said, it's actually recognizable food, and being able to eat as much as you want for $1.40, and looking pretty decent all things considered...that's hard to turn down. People spend 5-10x as much for a fast food meal that also is similarly not as fresh/good/overseasoned/salted.
That 1$ buffet is a heaven for some or most asian peoples. cuz asians like chinese thai vietnam burmese. . . ect tends to like food that are strong in flavor and chewy with white rice. I tried it and really good.

Thai food has completely different flavor profile than your korea food or western food. They focus on Sour, salty, spicy and sweet all four of them. Strong flavor that's how SEA asians eat.
