Forced to step up and meet his royal responsibilities unexpectedly, George VI saw the nation through some difficult times and witnessed the changing landscape of Britain.
The King and Queen remained at Buckingham Palace throughout the War. They sent their daughters, Princess Elizabeth, (now present queen) and Princess Margaret to Windsor Castle for safety.
King George VI and Queen Elizabeth toured many of the areas that had suffered from heavy bombing, this showed the people of London that they really cared for them and their welfare.
Their defiance of the German Blitz gave the country a much-needed boost in their war efforts, and undoubtedly forged a sense of unity throughout the United Kingdom.
As the war raged on, the King’s role remained ever-important, with visits to a number of locations outside of Britain a vital morale-boosting mission for the men fighting for their country.

What King George the VIth may lack in charisma, he more than made up for in courage. In humanity. In duty.
As a New Yorker in America, I am repeatedly humbled and inspired by the grace and sacrifice this constitutional monarchical family made for their country, and the world at large. How fortunate we all are.

Absolutely phenomenal and awe-inspiring how Britain was so valiant in the face of such horrors, and how loved and significant the mere presence of their Majesties was for their people. God bless them all, God save the King.

My father's cousin and her siblings grew up in London during this time. The stories she shared were incredible. They eventually were sent to live with other relatives in the country.

We cannot know the changing tides of life but with God’s grace find strength to meet the challenge. If anything, it is important we are kind, support each other, respect each other and not feel threatened by our differences. The strength and dignity before challenge is what I admire about this KIng and Queen. Glad to hear their story

George V & George VI were alike in that neither of them were supposed to be king. They both had older brothers who should have been king. I have more respect for George VI because George V allowed the Russian royal family to be murdered when he could have helped them.

Elizabeth's precocious moral leadership lent courage to the commonwealth long before her summons to the monarchy and for decades into the 21st Century.

We will give Harry wide latitude. He has 'smelled the smoke', and 'seen the elephant'. Every pre-pubescent warrior-wannabe needs an 'Uncle Harry'.

On a strictly fraternal basis, William should consider future support to The Invictus Games. The visibility of which should remain a matter between brothers.

One George 6th was worth more than 10 Edward 8ths. Hands down. I think a King Edward would have sold out the UK and the world to the evil axis powers

So did Churchill. The US would not have got into the war if 8th had been King. The other problem was that there were other nobles and royals that were in on it too. Somebody had to pay. It shaped up the others very quickly.

George V1 and Queen Elizabeth later the Queen Mother will go down in History as the Most Compastionat Monarch's who never swayed from Public duty and Seves and its Amazing how everyone all Pulled together Rich and Poor and helped and George V1 was quite right in adding his name too the George Cross and the George Medial and I think that his late Father would have Approved and I Certainly Approve of the SOE as they were Brave Women and Men
