Viewer Question:
Paul - Comparing the critic reviews on rotten tomatoes for the new Avatar film, it looks like exactly the same story. Most people loved it, some really hated it. And the reasons for their opinions is also the same as with the last one! I saw it myself this Wednesday and absolutely loved it. Have you seen it and what did you think?

Beautiful movie and the story was also good. The first and last scene were beautiful. The internet lovesss negativity and it seems like its the trend nowadays to hate on avatar and say "the story is too simple"...
Maverick was also a super simple story (literally it was just them training and doing the mission) but you dont see anyone complaining about that...
Its not about how complex the story is, its about how it is executed.
Stop whining & get tickets to go see it again. Your experience from amc doesn’t justify NOT seeing this film in IMAX 3D.
The details of this movie is simply amazing in 3d I'm AMAZED
Saw this in IMAX 3D last night..... All I have to say is I'm buying tickets to go see it again lol
The ending to me was such a surreal emotional experience. Life is gracious in the world of pandora
Just saw it. Third act was emotional for me. Neytiri coming in hard in this one scene, kicking everyone's butt. Was my favorite scene. Don't mess with mama bear and her kids.
Can´t believe they only gave 11 minutes for a review? You can´t just stop a review like that!
Definitely watching it a second time!!! Truly a masterpiece!!!
All John had to do was go to his email and pull up the email with the QR code
It's just stupid how good this movie looked, I mean it was real, I would love to know if someone scrubbed this whole movie if they wouldn't find 1 single visual flub in it....dear lord dude! Both movies gave me lingering feelings for days after seeing it and that is such a rare thing. Is James Cameron the GOAT?
James Cameron is the master of 3D cinematography and Avatar is the purest and simplest example of his craft. He was producing these engrossing worlds back when he made The Terminator. It just wasnt filmed with a 3D camera. Every shot, every scene in a James Cameron movie is perfectly calculated for a 3D thrill ride
@@ac14cmpunk25 What do you mean?? The 3D cinematography is there to serve the story and characters
@Stargayzer If only you could trust Cameron as an artist
Yes James Cameron is the 3D master.
Bro James Cameron isn’t human, that movie was fucking breathtaking idc that shit was real asf cgi my ass🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely loved the way of water. Enjoyed it the whole way through. Didn't feel like 3hours atall.
Me too
Jamess Cameron is inspiring an entire generation of children the world over to fight for our planet.
i thought this movie was fantastic.
Once we get to the new tribe in the islands, I'm so invested in it.
I get that the story is simple. But it works SO well. You love this family. Surprisingly, these kids are not annoying lol. These kids are great characters. You root for them. For the family.
Nature is another big character here and god you feel and care for it. Effing Whales that you tear up for and cheer for!! There's a scene with a particular whale where...that Whale is just so badass and feel so happy for her but also worried.
This movie makes you love the environment as you never did before. I bet.
Again, the family themes...ugh. So simple yet so beautiful. You cheer for these kids, you cry for them, you hope for them. I can't believe it but Cameron made likeable kids characters. Loved them. All of them. They're different from each other.
And by the end of it...the score with Jake narration...everything comes together. I can't believe how simple yet perfectly executed this movie was.
I was feeling something I rarely feel these days when I left the theater. And I don't know how to put into words.
@@Maxxximilian90 and yet they say is dance with wolf
Sorry but to the ppl saying there’s “no story” literally went into this already hating this movie. Sorry just calling you out because that’s the harsh truth. There is story. A simple basic easy-to-follow story but there is story. It doesn’t take a certified genius to understand the plot of the film.
THANK YOU!!
The story is very good. They take enough time to intrude everyone and develop the character.
I never felt that they were making stupid rushed decisions.
And that's is just great. Just look at marvel. Very complex but very low stakes. We know most the deaths are just irrelevant to us. And for the character is almost the same.
"Oh my wife died, anyway, what's next?" Kind of thing
Bro I totally agree with u
Who said there was no story?
@@majorlazor5058 lots of people dismiss the story for being simple. But a si.ple story is a story nonetheless and a well executed one imo
Rob is completely right
I'm the only one who clapped in my screening, and it was damn near full! Smh
No offense to John, but I clicked on this video to actually listen to Rob's opinion :D
I prefer simple stories than a complex one w dumb points or plot holes tbh thats what annoyed me with spiderman nwh
EXACTLY!!!
I wasn't super big on the first hour when I started watching it, but as soon as they got to the swimming/water tribe I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY. My only gripe is going to be once the film is streamable on home release is that the novelty of the 3D effect won't be as good. Because DAMN That was fucking impressive and I wish every movie could be that way. That was an EXPERIENCE as a film
This movie puts Aquaman and Wakanda Forever's underwater scenes to Shame... best CGI i have ever seen period. Felt like I went to a ReAl Alien World
100% agree
I think the legacy of this film will likely be the same as the first. Lauded for its technical achievement and loved during its theatrical run, but it will eventually find the same audience derision over the years because you will never replicate the theatrical experience of a movie like this in home video or streaming, and the story just isn't there to carry it past the technical aspects.
Perfect description.
Visual spectacle on a level never before seen. The clarity, resolution, detail & frame rate makes this movie going experience feel like going from playing a PS3, to a 4K game at 120fps. My mind can never return to the old way of viewing films.
Avatar 2 in 3D Imax. Best experience of my life.
I finally got to watch this movie today and it is amazing and will see it again this week for sure. The visual affects and the movie is fantastic must see in 3d imax
I saw it today also and it is amazing and 3D is just fantastic
The story is simple, but profound. And I loved that. Because it gave us time to just discover this new world of pandora while giving us the exposition of the story and new characters plus the bombastic action
Just got out of my second showing and I love this movie. It might be my favorite movie of the year. Its so good
I dont care what anybody says, to me this Film was Fantastic
Lol you could’ve looked for the confirmation email
My thoughts exactly
Didn't they basically say that planet is alive in the first movie? That was the whole whole thing with plugging in to the trees to ask Eywa to help. At the end, all the animals show up, so Ewya understood.
There’s a time jump at the beginning of the movie
The creatures that are introduced will make you believe that they exist....one for the ages!
We saw it tonight, IMAX 3D, you're 100% right. It's the best 3D experience and jaw dropping....the only, ONLY..thing that took me out of it was...not the 3D but it felt "too" realistic...like how a soap opera is to a standard TV show. The ONLY gripe I had. Otherwise fantastic.
There's a reason why the first movie was one of the highest-grossing films of all time! See it for yourself people and decide for yourself. Or are you afraid to THINK for yourself?!
I am thinking for myself and I will not waste my money and time on it. Not everyone has unlimited amounts of time and cash to waste on expensive 4 hour ordeal. I know its 3 hours but the whole trip will be 4 if not 5 hours. Ill catch it on disney minus.
I saw it last night on Imax 3D it was awsome!!!! better than the 1st . I am all in for the franchise moving forward
I'm definitely seeing this movie again. Simply because I feel I missed most of what most people are raving about. Yes, I was without question entertained by it. And, did not at all felt, was too long. But 3d technology wise at least I was unimpressed to be perfectly honest. Yes, I too thought the theater's roof started leaking for a second or two. But, then there are so many scenes with creatures swarming, jumping, flying in front of the screen where I thought, this scene could have benefited so much with a lot more depth. One in particular scene where, a creature does a "Free Willy" jump comes to mind. I swear I kept taking my 3d glasses off for 2 seconds and there seemed not to have any 3d effects, or so very little of it. And I found the kids story arches so formulated and predictable. "Bro"!? I understand kids talk like that now but, why would alien kids talk like that too?!. I found one of the kids even annoying. And, maybe it's my lack of sensitivity but, as per the message of saving the earth sorry but, I was unmoved by its delivery. I'll tell you what though, it made me crave a trip to the Caribbean so much. I could almost taste the salt of the ocean on my lips.
Dude, didn't you check your email for tickets? Also if the app says you have an overlap, couldn't you have used the browser as a guest? Plotholes in reality
True
Saw this today. Incredible. There were some parts I was like "Ok James... You're just showing off now". If you love sci-fi machinery and weapons this is for you. To me it is way more gritty and violent than the first.
I loved it way better than the first was invested into the family and their dynamics James Cameron I will be seated for the next sequels
Same! Much better than the first! Fully immersed in this one besides just the amazing visuals
I had a situation last night i was sitting in my seat. Someone came showing me their ticket. It was the same seat I was in, Security had to come. I showed my ticket told them I wasn't moving lmaooooo
JOHN! That amc mishap is a glitch, if you went to the amc they could have looked you up! Same thing happened to me
@@AM-dk3wy yeah from what it sounds like he didnt make any effort
@@AM-dk3wy thats why i always screenshot my tickets when i buy them
If Avatar is James Cameron’s Star Wars then The Way Of Water is his Empire Strikes Back.
On top of that, there are very few artists who can *truly* take you out of the seats of your theater and put you into a world entirely of their creation, James Cameron is the best of them all.
I was tearing up within only a few minutes of this film, not because of anything tragic but because of the absolutely breathtaking beauty of Pandora. I was also tearing up because when the first movie came out, I took my mom who was 60 at the time it came out in theaters, she was so entranced by the movie at times I could see from the corner of my eye her trying to grab the tree seeds floating towards her. It’s one of my favorite memories. She sadly passed away seven years ago, but I know she would’ve loved this movie, even more because she was a champion swimmer who love the water with all her heart. And so with all my heart, I think you, James Cameron for creating yet another masterpiece of a film.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Trust me, you have to experience it in theatres, in 3D. It won't be the same at home. Trust me. Don't miss out on that rollercoaster ride of a movie.
When Rob says there are things he’s never seen… I gotta see this!
The movie was spectacularly filmed visually. It really lacked plot wise. If you take any length of time to think about it afterwards. The movie becomes a 5/6 out of 10.
To you it becomes that buddy
AMC can scan your member ID and pull up the reservation that way, if that ever happens again. An employee told/showed me that a few months ago.
I watched it in three 3 twice and i have to say it’s outstanding
wow what a movie !! James Cameron is the best
here at the Imax in Melbourne, there were no ads apart from the Oppenheimer and MI:DR previews. And I will say, I wasn't thrilled with the 3D of the Avatar re-release. But my god 2 days later and I'm still dumbfounded at the 3D of The Way of Water. The depth it added, plus the quality of the CGI legitimately made it feel real. I don't know how the bastard did it but James Cameron surpassed my expectations of how good I thought it would look.
Never underestimate James Cameron. Even when South Park focused on him, the joke was he literally raises the bar!
Please please stop cutting conversations off, John! I get that you want and need to get to the super chats but stop the discussion more naturally for goodness sakes.
Ngl, when I went to my 3PM showing yesterday, during the film, I sat there thinking, wonder what the Campea Crew is thinking rn… When I came out the theater, I kept refreshing my feed, expecting to c John’s out of the theater reaction. It never came. I nw know y. 😂😂
I recommend Fandango tbh. Hasn’t failed me yet. 💯
Just gonna say it, I loved Way of Water. I teared up twice n cried once. Legit tears rolling down my face during a significant moment in the film. 😭 I was hooked from beginning to end. I saw it in 3D, which was great, but I nw need to experience it in IMAX 3D. Looking at a showing this Weeknd. 😉🤣
I recommend that everyone should go c it, if u haven’t already. 👍🏼👍🏼
As someone who's not a big fan of the 1st Avatar, this movie is AWESOME. It's waaay better. It's fun, it's adventurous, it's funny sometimes, the conflict is better, the characters are written better, things become far more personal, it's emotional, and it's beautiful looking. It's everything you want in a movie. This is the best movie I've seen all year and I'm not exaggerating because I've been let down by so many movies this year particularly from Marvel. James Cameron talks a lot of shit and can be a stubborn filmmaker but he never let's me down. The Man knows what he's doing.
John, didn’t you get an email confirmation on your tickets? Those emails include the QR code for your tickets as well as your ticket confirmation number which guest services should’ve been able to print out. I’d also recommend getting a screen capture of your order confirmation and QR code the moment you order your tickets.
I came here to say something similar. Just because the app was messing up and wasn’t showing his reservation he didn’t go? Surely he had an email confirmation. Or better yet you go to the theatre and you talk to somebody at guest services and you get it sorted out. Especially since the app said he had a conflicting Showtime, which meant that she was in fact, scheduled to go see avatar.
I wonder about his overlapping issue too cause i think you can book multiple seats from ur account...oh john...probably isnt that interested in the film....and he admits to being not a fan of 3D format....wonder what his take on the film, probably on the low side...i love robs take on the film and many other movies.
the movie is amazing. any time a movie can show you something visually you’ve never seen before you need to go see it
That third act was amazing. Honestly a good movie in my opinion. The second act was weird with too many cuts, but that was prob the only issue with it.
Wakanda Forever is at a 94% audience rating and the first BP is at 74%… what the hell does the audience know?!?!
Everything
Everyone is a a critic and feels their opinions are objective
Those that thought it was a screensaver must of seen it in 2D so they are not "idiots" -- I saw it in 3D after 2D and the difference is night and day (I still loved it in 2D but it was 5K times more awesome in 3D -- I felt as if I was at a WHALE SHARK aquarium which I have been to two).
Seen it twice already and bout to see it again for a third time tomorrow 😆
So good man, I’m seeing it for a second time tomorrow!
My family and I saw Avatar tonight and we cannot stop talking about it. It was amazing! We were in another world and we cannot wait to go back! Grateful for this show!
Taylor's comment about Shrek was awesome!
We just got an Imax near where I live just in time for Avatar can't wait to see this in Imax
John amc emails you your ticket as well.
John and Rob, you guys GOTTA see it in Dolby Cinema 3D at the AMC Burbank. That’s the way it was meant to be seen.
yeah bro I agree. Dolby Cinema 3D is undeniably the best way to see this movie! It's mind-blowing visuals with top of the line sound system. Dolby Cinema is better than iMax
This is a great movie.
There are major issues with this movie.
The two are not mutually exclusive.
I saw this in IMAX 3d and about 10% of the movie, the intended medium, didn't present well in the format. Seems like a frame rate issue? By the time they put it together, it was too late to reshoot some scenes I guess? Not sure what the cause is, but it's noticable.
The plot is shaky at points, the kids can be a bit overcooked and Spider is way overcooked.
All that said, the 90% of the film that worked, worked like an effing fever dream and effing blows you away.
The technical spectacle that this movie is makes up for a plot that's a bit shaky and uneven characterization.
The sum of its parts is absolutely incredible.
There is, simply put, magic in watching this movie in the IMAX 3d format that cannot be overstated.
I don't know that I've ever watched a movie more than once in a theater, and I will see this movie again before it leaves theaters.
Enough with the bullshits. This is the best visual entertainment film I have ever seen who compare this with anything else is a joke go see it in 3d in the biggest scene. This is true blockbuster
What if we see it in regular cinema, or streaming? Will it still hold up?
I was trippin ballz when I went to go see this movie today. It’s the only way to see it! Holy shiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!! I literally turned into a blue person, and didn’t know where I was when the movie ended. Lol. I forgot what planet I was on. You literally are inside of that movie.
You gotta screen shot that purchase accepted screen.
I’m busy this weekend so I won’t be seeing it until Monday but I’m really looking forward to it, after not seeing the first movie for I’m pretty sure at least a decade I recently went back and rewatched the first Avatar as a refresher and I very much enjoyed it, did I love it? No but it was a really solid movie, and by the way, for a movie that’s over 10 years old that first movie still looks fucking gorgeous, I was in complete awe of those visuals the entire runtime, and my enjoyment of that movie in turn made me more excited to see this movie than I had been earlier this year, and after all the delays and waiting over 10 years for this movie to come out hearing that it was worth the wait is awesome, I’m glad we didn’t get another Independence Day: Resurgence, which it’s funny because those 2 are in the same wheelhouse due to being sequels that we were told were coming for god knows how long, so it’s great to hear that this one actually stuck the landing and didn’t fall flat on its face like Resurgence did
I encounterd the same problem on AMC app but it was for was way back for Doctor Strange 2 movie. Fortunately Fandango app has no issue with this at all.
I watched this movie in IMAX 3D at AMC theater and loved it. And yes it has strong message about saving natural habitat and caring humanity.
I really loved it the 3D was fantastic.
Its exactly the same movie but with best cgi.

I also couldn't get reservation. And I'm in Europe. That's why I'm going next week.
this way better than the first one and i didnt care about the first one but it has been awhile since i seen the first one. i was so lost cuz its been so long. also i couldnt tell the kids apart. the brothers or the sisters. cant even remember there names. was an excellent movie but didnt need to be as long as it was
The app usually sends you an email too, surprised he didn't just tell the front desk.
I saw the movie was great a little bit long I felt it should have been 2 hours and 30 minutes instead of 3 hours I felt that it was long because they really wanted to show off how good they have become with graphic Imaging definitely going to see it again and I would recommend people to go and see it as well
The previous one had more of the wow factor, but the visuals in this one are unlike anything i’ve seen in any movie. The closest comparison I can make between the way of water and the original is like comparing empire strikes back with a new hope
1) Whenever you purchase your tickets you must add the tickets to your apple wallet. 2) John should have had an email confirmation of his ticket. 3) While I enjoyed the movie. I though Avatar 2 was 70% Avatar 1 with new characters and new locations. 3) I didn’t think the 3D was amazing (compared to the first movie).
John amc sends a email when u buy a ticket lol u could just show the staff ur receipt
If you like visuals, it's a masterpiece. If you like story that hasn't been done to death. It's mediocre at best.
Do you critique marvel trash like this?

The greatest climactic battle in any film ever. This film is is an absolute classic, I loved everything about this movie.
Itle be hard to top the battle of middle earth in return of the king imo
LMAO why didn't John just go to a Regal? 🤣
I really enjoyed watching the re-release of Avatar a couple of months ago, so my excitement level was high going in, especially with a lot of reviewers I follow being positive on the film.
Unfortunately, I was largely bored and/or annoyed. I found all the young characters irritating, and the dialogue was brutal at times.
Beautiful? Yes of course, but that’s a given. I might be in the minority here but I was so disengaged that I’m now not particularly excited to see how the story turns out.
I love James Cameron and I continue to marvel at his wizardry, but his writing is the problem.
I can get finding the younger characters irritating
Agreed they were irritating and continued making the same mistakes. 🤦🏽♂️ And no I’m not interested in see more of this story to be honest. The first was good enough.
@@kevinstfort
Yeah, honestly I’m a bit baffled by the people saying this one is better than the first. I’m not a huge fan of the characters or storyline, so the first film, and all its awesome visuals, is enough for me.
To be fair, you could have most likely gotten the QR code from your email you got when purchasing :p
2 things John. 1 I had the exact same thing happen for all 3 of my movies. Puss in Boots, Whitney Huston, & Avatar 2. I went into "History" they were there but not in my reservations. I'm an AMC A-List holder & was not happy about it but it was an annoyance. 2 I get to the theater get my ticket from the "History" & got in with no problem. I get to Dolby & find out the movie is in 3D. The ticket didn't say 3D at all either. Beautiful movie & not such an issue with it being in 3D. The glasses are very monitored cus they are a special 3D set so they have crew & theft prevention on them. I get home & my mom says my eyes are red which is not normal for me so that was my experience. All I was wishing for while watching Avatar 2 was I wish I could join them & experience more with smell (🤣) & feel the water. James Cameron has done it again 💖
Feels like John could've just went to the theater and bought tickets the old fashioned way
they live in a highly populated area i doubt it. plus if the app says theres no showings then theres not
The first Act is very repetitive after that the movie is great.
They do have alot of thematic callbacks in the 1st act. And a few in the 2nd. But I didn't hate them. It felt more like a reminder of events past. Like a lesson to show that the humans clearly haven't learned from past mistakes and a foreshadowing that those who don't learn from previous history r doomed to repeat it. At least that's my wishful thinking, as opposed to believing that Cameron just forgot that he did that already lol
@@notoyaarthur1990 completely agree! Great observation!
They need to make a battle royale video game on it
RMB sold me,awesome review sir, true from the heart
There is nothing greater than watching Rob geek out with glee. Can’t wait to see this.
I saw it on 4dx 3d and it was an awesome experience
Phenomenal visuals are to be expected. I was 100% sure he will exceed people's expectations in regards to visuals. However, i am waiting to see how the story is. Not just the visuals.
Dolby 3D > IMAX 3D don’t @ me
Like just about every blockbuster, the storyline wont be too complex but enough to keep avg moviegoers engaged. If i want a deep, complex,or critical thinking plot, i’ll watch a Nolan flick or other directors.
I've seen it twice. Once in IMAX 3D and once in HFR 3D. One thing I can recommend everyone who have the chance is to go see this in HFR 3D because oh my god HFR is made for underwater scenes! The fluidity of sea creatures, the flow of water and water particles is something else in 48 frames per second. Although once out of the water, it becomes bad. And the flip flopping between 24 and 48 frames is just distracting. But those underwater scenes, man!
Did I like the movie itself? Yes. But not as much as the first one. I feel like the focus on nature and its destruction was told better in the first one. However The Way of Water is still a very solid movie. I simply love being in Pandora. I will see it again tonight in Dolby.
Would be cool if She-Hulk uses this technology. Cameron, please share your toys.
Well, I waited 13 years for this and was just about to see it in IMAX 3D, but was informed that the projector is broken. I can only see it in 2D. Should I even bother?
no wait for 3D
absolutely not
its worth the wait to see it in 3D. I saw it last night in Dolby Cinema 3D. And it was jaw dropping gorgeous in 3D. Mind you I am not a fan of 3D films. I chose that format because im a fan of dolby cinemas sound system. Today I decided to see the trailer again and the footage in 2D does not do it justice.
@@LensGod yeah, that's what I figured. I saw Avatar 6 times in 3D. Couldn't even imagine watching in 2D. But I bought 8 tickets for A2 in IMAX 3D and everyone else in my group is ok with seeing it in 2D. I just wanted my first viewing to be the best possible and now it won't be, so maybe I shouldn't go.
You keep hearing that you have to see this movie in IMAX. Well, do AMC Dolby theaters qualify to give you the experience as an IMAX does or is the only place to see this movie is only IMAX. AMC Dolby cinema will not give the best experience?
Man, a myriad of reasons really. Are you ready? A big ol block of information coming your way:
Now, I do love Dolby cinemas. Dolby cinemas use laser projectors, so the dark levels look great. I like them a lot, but for a movie like this, I would definitely go with IMAX. Let's get the first and obvious reason out of the way: Part of the movie is cut off in regular theaters, including Dolby. IMAX theaters tend to have a larger screen vertically. Since the movie was shot for IMAX, it will take advantage of this extra screen space that most regular theaters have to cut off.
Second: the audio. This really varies from theater to theater, as well as management of said theaters. The greatest thing about IMAX theaters, though, is that the local theater/management CANNOT touch the audio. IMAX controls all their theaters remotely from their headquarters. They dictate that the audio level/bass/subwoofers are at a particular level. A customer complains that the IMAX theater is too loud? Tough. The theater staff can't do anything about it. This means IMAX will always have great audio that doesn't change.
Third, IMAX theater projectors tend to be the brightest. This typically comes down again to management at a theater. A lot of management will run projector bulbs dimmer to save on costs so they don't go out. Like the audio, IMAX from their headquarters dictates how bright their projectors are and the staff at a theater cannot change it.
Fourth, and for me the main reason to see a movie in IMAX if it is in 3D, is the way that the 3D is displayed. You basically have two options at theaters in the US. IMAX 3D and RealD 3D. RealD 3D is a far worse technology for displaying 3D. It is usually dimmer and blurrier. IMAX theaters typically utilize a dual projection system. One projector for each eye, left and right. The result is a brighter and MUCH clearer image. This is in comparison to the single projection system used with RealD 3D. To achieve the 3D effect in RealD theaters, the two images used for the 3D flip back and forth at a rapid rate. The clarity difference is big enough that I don't watch 3D movies in any theater other than IMAX anymore.
@@Fanible thanks so much for your reply. Much appreciated.
This movie is so so good. Flawless... Best 3d so far.. When it was raining in the movie. Took time my brain to process it.. I have to watch this movie like 3times
I loved the movie. I saw it in imax 3d which I was very excited for, but the 3d actually ended up really overwhelming me so I am excited to see it again in 2d
Watching it at 8pm. Only 2 and a half hours to go!
its a crazy spectacle you need to see at the cinema
Yep. Uncle J is hyper talented. True king of sequels.
Watched it last night. My entire reaction towards the movie perfectly summed up by Robert. If anyone asks me how was Avatar : The way of water, I will forward them the link and time stamp to when Mr. Robert Meyer Burnett starts speaking.
