I’m so glad this movie is on track to making almost $2B. We really don’t get movies like this that often that truly are an experience. Just HIT IT BABYYY.....WE ARE IN THE 2 BILLIONS CLUB, Avatar is the only franchise that only have 2 films, both are 2 billion grossing films.............do you imagine if each entry does similar....JESUS.
Inflation aside, the numbers are extraordinary, considering that cinema took such a hard hit from the covid pandamic, people called it dead, and it was. And it still hasn't fully regenerated, we are only at like 65-75% ticket sales of pre-covid times, even worse over here in Germany, and yet, this movie is smashing records. Just imagine what this movie would have made in 2019, before Disney+ and before Covid. But this is just money and numbers. Now artistically speaking: This movie is a spectacle you shouldn't miss out on. It is absolutely amazing. Go watch it in theatres, 3D is a must, and IMAX the cherry on top if you can. Its awesome to see many people flock to local cinemas to experience this, even tho it is more expensive than ever and people go through tough times.
TWOW and TG:M should be a wakeup call to Hollywood and especially Disney. It isn't that people don't want to go to the theater, they just want a fresh experience that doesn't feel like it came off a corporate assembly line by committee. Both of these movies were passion projects by uncompromising filmmakers and people can tell.
@@bighand1530 Cinema has had a little decline before, by a few percent, but when Covid hit it was literally down by like 70%. That is statistically visable covid impact. If you imagine a relatively stable line, then Covid marks an insane sudden dropoff. So its pretty undebatable.
Our own planet is already so messed up, we all go to Pandora for a 3-hour mini vacation. I hope The Way Of Water will also come with an extended version on Blu-Ray. (And why not? These extended editions - Just like with LOTR - will bring in more money and offer great value.) The fact that Avatar 3 currently has a rough cut of 9 hours, I bet The Way Of Water also has some great extra footage for the home cinema, but they won't tell this yet, of course, until the theatrical release has finished its complete run.

People forget about the legs the original Avatar had. It was still making over $1,000,000 a day domestically well into March, and was still in theaters until August. It doesn't seem to be doing as well internationally right now, but a lot of people are pretty cash-strapped at the moment. I only got out to see it at last this past weekend, because I wanted the full 3D (no high framerate) experience. Honestly, I'd really like to go back and I bet a lot of others feel the same after seeing it for the first time, and a lot of people still just haven't gotten around to it.
Same. Only just got around to seeing it on Sunday night. It was brilliant and I wish I had the funds to go watch it again, but times are tough so I’m saving my pennies for Ant-Man next month.
Wait a minute! The WoW is doing GREAT internationally! It is standing ca. 25% above where Avatar was at the same time, and showing no sign of weakening!
Does this mean James Cameron could eventually have 5 avatar movies plus titanic that over 2billion each ? Own the top 10 box office… ever… WOW ! He really is “King of the world” if that happens. Marvel on the decline too… love it
Yep. I agree marvel movies has hit there peak/ sealing. Now people want something more original I'm sick and tired of the stupid one liner jokes that aren't even funny it seems like marvel ran out of ideas. WELCOME BACK JAMES' CAMERON LETS SHOW HOLLYWOOD WHAT REAL MOVIES ARE MADE OF.
@@ShockByte94 Fuck comic book films in general. Sooooo boooooooring (Bar The Batman - that’s a masterpiece). They are done - the multiverse is not working. They may switch it up for Ant-Man but I can’t see it. All this source material and they came up with Thor love and thunder?? Every marvel TV show bar Wandavision has been awful. People are bored. And woked out of their minds! Endgame & Infinty war are incredible and I respect how they got there, even if it was with a copy and paste template. I like Black Panther, Iron Man, Winter solider, Guardians 1 and the 1st Avengers. But otherwise they are quite forgettable and you can drop in a main character to any film and the main story wouldn’t change. People now want original stories. Marvel is on a decline - Bar Spider-Man (loves it because it was nostalgic) the box office for marvel is shrinking very slowly, you can’t deny that. Either way - would you prefer original stories where you go in knowing nothing OR go watch another 20 Marvel movies where you’ve guessed the main plot in 10 mon of watching?? I just wish Marvel could write their own stories - then I’d be in.
I literally watched Puss In Boots on my crappy laptop on a random bored night. It was SO good, that I actively went to a movie theatre to see it *again* on a big screen. That movie is Shrek 2 level good. That Jiminy Cricket character? Comedy gold.
Since Avatar 2 has been running, I've noticed a change in the box office numbers here in Germany - and that seems to be happening in the USA as well: more people are going to the cinema again. When was the last time the top 5-10 looked so diverse with such good numbers? Maybe it's just a correlation - but maybe there's also a causal connection: Here in Germany, Avatar 2 attracted people to the cinema who, in the last 13 years, have seen fewer and fewer American blockbusters, or none at all. If you couldn't do anything with comics and MCU, there was simply little content. I've seen from young to incredibly old in Avatar 2. You can't believe how many people say, "I haven't been to a movie in so long. That was great." And then one or the other looks around and thinks: "Hey, the poster looks interesting, I like the trailer. Let's go in there next week." I think James Cameron was right on the Globes red carpet: "People are coming back to the movies." And Avatar certainly had a positive effect on that.
The avatar movie internationally is most successful in Europe , avatar does very well in Europe which contributes a lot of the earnings . China now is also an important factor
Some documentaries didn't have to always have the plot tho . Sometimes we just wanna enjoy nature and wonderful creatures . I agree with you that the plot is very important and it could make the movie become legendary . But again! When people say " it only sells visuals " it really make me upset! For me CGI and visauls are a form of art!! It's like you watching a wonderful painting! And you knew right away that they really put afford in to it !! Avatar might not have a very big plot line but it gave you imagination. You could feel the forest!! You could feel the water!! You could imagine as if you were living in that place! If you were Navi! And that is a charm of Avatar!
In my childhood titanic is the biggest thing ever after terminator 2 and i am living in a third world country. James Cameron is a special kind of director
The trend for this film is incredible. I still don't get why, but happy for those who are involved with the movie. It looks like it will end up at the 3 or 4 slot in worldwide box office. I don't think it has enough legs left to get to Endgame or Avatar numbers. I think it could go past Titanic at 2.2 billion, though that too is 300 million away.
Even if it passes Titanic, Titanic will likely overtake that spot with its re-release next month. Curious where Way of Water ends up. At most, I imagine $2.5 billion, but realistically I think $2.3 billion is where it ends up in the end. Who knows, I do think February will be a pretty rough month for it though because M. Night Shyamalan's new film opens on the 3rd & then Antman 3 is the 17th, plus yeah, let's be real, a lot of people will go see Titanic in 4K which will also cut into it, but hey, that still works out for James Cameron too, doesn't it?
That's true titanic will make a little more money. Of course Avatar 2 will make more than that when they rerelease it in a year and a half before the third one comes out.
People who say the movie wasn’t all that are probably Marvel fans. But honestly, are you really acting as if marvel movies are outstanding or unique? ???
It’ll pass Infinity War and The Force Awakens next. Has a shot at passing Titanic (although Titanic will add to its gross with the rerelease). Won’t touch Endgame or Avatar 1 though.
I think James Cameron will be renegotiating his contract and any Avatar film that breaks the bank when it comes to putting in the CGI they definitely will not question it cuz I'm pretty sure that this film has not only allow them to break even but has also gave them even more thanks to the underground fans of Avatar who appreciate this film cuz when I go to the theaters all I see is a perfect attendance for this
While I didn’t care for the actual story of avatar ( though very visually immersive in imax 3d) keeping it simple probably makes it a lot easier to keep track of international audiences watching with subtitles and what not. so the avatar find is gonna be one of the highest grossing franchises even with only 4/5 movies and no spin-offs
Avatar will make $650-$750 mil domestic and $1.5-$1.7 billion international for a worldwide total of $2.15-2.5 billion. I believe it will at least surpass Titanic for the number 3 spot. I think 2.15 billion is now it’s floor.
It was a foregone conclusion once we saw the 4th weekend numbers. I knew it would do well, but even me as a fan was not expecting it to go that high a month ago.
disney had nothing to do with the first avatar och titanic they just got them in the merger so they are not disney movies and even avatar 2 was 50% done when the merger happened
@@johansvensson833 they are Disney movies by ownership lol Fox doesn't exist separately to hold the record they even mentioned that on this channel merger or not Disney owns the films that are in those spots, besides that Disney Rereleased Avatar themselves last year so some of that box office was under their ownership
2 billion finally hit! now he's going to make literally dozens of dollars! and only after being in theaters for over a month! He might even make 350$ breaking even is one thing but lets see if it makes an actual profit worth all of the investment. I don't hate these movies but its more than likely too little too late for what it cost. My guess is there will be one more and that's it. realistically, and that's only because they gambled and produced the third already.
John, if anyone of the next Avatar movies ends in a cliffhanger . Then surely the next Avatar movie will be unstoppable at the box office. It will be surely cross 3 billions
The way I see it, James Cameron became synonymous with groundbreaking audiovisual spectacle, that is more about the visuals and the “ride” than storytelling. I remember when Titanic was being made, the conversation was all about how Cameron figured out a way to go deep into the ocean to reach the ruins of the real thing, and how he created a life-size ship that was put in 90 degrees for the sinking scene during the production. Avatar was a visual spectacle that revolutionized 3D film experiences and part two attempts to do that again (to a certain extent). We love that spectacle. I think Way of the Water is a good ride. I couldn’t name a single character aside from Jake Sully after the credits rolled. But I had fun being immersed by the world he created. I still think that the characters could be more interesting. T2 and True Lies come to mind when I think about the time James Cameron created fun and interesting characters. But a visual feast work too. Cinema is an audiovisual form of art, and it can’t get more visual, or audio for that matter, than this.
There is that chance after it's entire theatrical run is over. It hinges on the international market, as the first Avatar made $1.993 Billion internationally alone with it's original release. Another $300 Million in one month is doable, plus it will likely still be in theaters another one or two months after that. Cameron will likely have three of the top four movies of all time.
The incredible success of Avatar and Top Gun needs to be a lesson to Hollywood, especially when compared to the (relative) failure of the MCU's 2022 slate. Good directors with unique visions like Avatar 2 >>>recycled, formulaic plots like Thor 4
There it is,..the silly standard issue MCU trollish comment LoL! Never mind the fact that each MCU film greatly cleared their production budgets and were profitable in theaters LoL,.the MCU just had movies running out of steam in the 800-950 million range instead of the billion club,..oh no,...poor Disney,..LoL You been watching too much Grace Randolph
It is safe so say TWOW will eventually settle as 3rd all time, it made ~200mil this week WW, but the gap between Titanic and Endgame (or Avatar original realese of 2.743) is too big.
To predict how much the WoW will ultimately gross, one just has to look at the timelines of BO grossing: - Domestically, the line is tapering off, parallel to what Avatar (2009) did, but 10% above. - Internationally, WoW has incredibly strong legs; it is ca. 25% above where Avatar (2009) stood at the same time, and shows no sign yet of weakening. Hence, if those trends persist and, for the moment, there is no sign of that not happening, WoW has around 99% chance of passing $2.5B, 90% of passing $3B to snatch the title of best grossing film ever from its predecessor, and possibly as much as 50% chance passing $3.5B! Over here in France, the theaters are packed on the weekends, more than they were in the fist weeks. And wait! The word-of-mouth is starting to do its trick in Germany, which started slow! The WoW has incredibly strong legs internationally. People that didn't see it pass $1.5B or even $2B, have excessively US-centered vision. Contrary to Marvels production, the international market love Avatar, and the tremendous success of the WoW was very predictable, viewed from across the pond.
@@leisureish Missed it by that much. After Monday's world wide numbers Avatar 2 is at $1,916,101,348. It's also of note that Box Office Mojo seems to have the wrong number as Deadline his confirmed the No Way Home total is actually $1.921B. Not surprising that Mojo is wrong. It's been a thing since Amazon picked them up. Seems that it went from people who loved what they did to just a job for someone. Just last month I had to write them that they had the wrong total for the original Lion King. They had it at $1,063,611,805. It seems that they had the original release international total at $545.7m. This despite them having an article on their site in which the studio had already once told them another total they had was incorrect and that it should be $450.6m international for the original release. That means that after reducing it once, they somehow creeped it back up. Since the Amazon purchase I trust the-numbers more, though even they have their failing. For instance they have No Way Home at $1.910B.

Doesn't hold nearly the same amount of weight as James Cameron's movies making that much. Even though I think infinity war is better than avatar 1 and 2
And I think what made it better is the timing wakanda forever has their moments in theaters and they put this film in December January isn't anything and gives them plenty of time and all they have to do is just wait until 2 weeks into February where Marvel will have his turn again but still by the time they reached at there obtained everything they need and it's all about keeping it in the theaters for as long as you can until practically everyone has seen it
Even when I was 16 or 17 and The Abyss was in theaters I sensed that Cameron was something special. We would watch Aliens all the time on video. His vision and ambition I admired. Can I date Chris?
Goodness gracious John's habit of saying "EVERYBODY SAID THIS BUT ME, I WAS THE ONLY VOICE OF REASON!" is becoming so annoying. How did EVERYBODY shit on Avatar 2 if the movie is gonna make 2 billion dollars, what is that logic? I'm gonna have to start skipping every clip of this show about Avatar 2 because of this my god

WoW will pass that mark in February, and hit more than $3B. It has incredibly strong legs internationally, where it is standing ca. 25% above Avatar (20099 at he same point in time!
I’m so glad this movie is on track to making almost $2B. We really don’t get movies like this that often that truly are an experience. Every so often we get a true experience (Infinity War & Endgame, NWH, and especially Top Gun: Maverick) and they stick the landing incredibly. It’s a great time to be a movie fan.
Just HIT IT BABYYY.....WE ARE IN THE 2 BILLIONS CLUB, Avatar is the only franchise that only have 2 films, both are 2 billion grossing films.............do you imagine if each entry does similar....JESUS.
I still haven’t seen it so it’s got at least another 8£ coming
Yeah, I dunno if I would blame it all on Covid/the pandemic on why so many movies aren’t making the money it use to.
@@martinduebner Along with crappy movies being churned out too.
At the insane pace this movie is going....its gonna surpassed 2 billion & crack the top 5 biggest films of all times.....lucky you James Cameron!!
It's going to be the 2nd fastest movie to reach $2 billion globally only behind Endgame.

Lol to anyone hating the movie. Does it ever occur to you that maybe there's a reason people watch these kinds of movies and that maybe there's something good that about this movie outside of the visual spectacle?
@@st-ex8506 Ah, well I only really glanced at the figures. Obviously didn't look at them closely enough.
Plane was surprising really good. I had no expatiation going into it and it was a super fun watch. A man name Ottooooooo was a delightful watch.
Does this mean James Cameron could eventually have 5 avatar movies plus titanic that over 2billion each ? Own the top 10 box office… ever… WOW ! He really is “King of the world” if that happens. Marvel on the decline too… love it
Agreed. Marvel had it's run. Now it's time for something different. Original world building.
@@ShockByte94 what he means is that we will not se a billion dollar marvel movie for a while but they will still make huge amount of money
Never bet against the magician Cameron n his magics👌👌👌💓💓⭐️👍👏
Gotta give Zoe Saldana credit some credit too. She's in 4 of the top 10 highest grossing film, and Chris Pratt right behind her in 3 of the top 10.
Even more impressing if you say 4 of the top 6 :)

I literally watched Puss In Boots on my crappy laptop on a random bored night. It was SO good, that I actively went to a movie theatre to see it *again* on a big screen. That movie is Shrek 2 level good. That Jiminy Cricket character? Comedy gold.
Your point? 😂 puss in boots was fire. Yes. But it wasn’t marketed at all.
@@imanoldurango8213 What's your point of your point?
Let's go in there next week."
I think James Cameron was right on the Globes red carpet: "People are coming back to the movies." And Avatar certainly had a positive effect on that.
I think a lot of us take pride in being right, n seeing Campea admit he’s wrong. 😂👏🏼
FACT CHECK: A Man Called Otto is NOT an Apple movie. It’s from Sony.
I’m going to see it two more times
I think we're in for a huge year for movie theatres.
In my childhood titanic is the biggest thing ever after terminator 2 and i am living in a third world country. James Cameron is a special kind of director
johns old estimate for avatar goes up every week 😀
Of course Avatar 2 will make more than that when they rerelease it in a year and a half before the third one comes out.
at this very moment I'm typing this. it's at 1.9 mill. but apparently everyone doesn't care about avatar 2. clearly based on it's box office
If Avatar 2 doesn't hit 3 billion atleast I'll disappoint. Movie was better than original.
It will!
It's cuz of covid 2019
People who say the movie wasn’t all that are probably Marvel fans. But honestly, are you really acting as if marvel movies are outstanding or unique? ???
Today it has reached 2 Billion
I love Kris Carr's smile
She's awesome
It’ll pass Infinity War and The Force Awakens next. Has a shot at passing Titanic (although Titanic will add to its gross with the rerelease). Won’t touch Endgame or Avatar 1 though.
So sad it won’t beat endgame but at least it’ll take down infinity war
Avatar sweep! Let's go!
Avatar 2 actually made 32.4 million domestic for its 5th weekend
It will be 3rd highest grossing movie of all time
Wouldn’t surprise me. Also wouldn’t surprise me if it makes more than even the first one.
I think James Cameron will be renegotiating his contract and any Avatar film that breaks the bank when it comes to putting in the CGI they definitely will not question it cuz I'm pretty sure that this film has not only allow them to break even but has also gave them even more thanks to the underground fans of Avatar who appreciate this film cuz when I go to the theaters all I see is a perfect attendance for this
Just need it to beat Infinity War 😎
Avatar 2 s set to earn 3 billions dollars at box office💓💓💓
While I didn’t care for the actual story of avatar ( though very visually immersive in imax 3d) keeping it simple probably makes it a lot easier to keep track of international audiences watching with subtitles and what not. so the avatar find is gonna be one of the highest grossing franchises even with only 4/5 movies and no spin-offs
Despite having only 2 films, Avatar is already the 13th highest grossing franchise of all time.
Avatar will make $650-$750 mil domestic and $1.5-$1.7 billion international for a worldwide total of $2.15-2.5 billion. I believe it will at least surpass Titanic for the number 3 spot. I think 2.15 billion is now it’s floor.
This just goes to show that the market is moving away from comic book films. Marvel Studios should be worried.
Let’s go, Avatar!!!! Let’s go, Cameron!!! Clam those haters up!!!
It will reach the number 3 of all time... Period. Why are you guys still doubting?
Jimmy C does again.. 🔥🔥🔥
It was a foregone conclusion once we saw the 4th weekend numbers. I knew it would do well, but even me as a fan was not expecting it to go that high a month ago.
The whole top 10 will eventually all be Disney movies
disney had nothing to do with the first avatar och titanic they just got them in the merger so they are not disney movies and even avatar 2 was 50% done when the merger happened
5 of the top 10 will be Avatar movies in about 8 years.
@@johansvensson833 they are Disney movies by ownership lol Fox doesn't exist separately to hold the record they even mentioned that on this channel merger or not Disney owns the films that are in those spots, besides that Disney Rereleased Avatar themselves last year so some of that box office was under their ownership
I love this channel, and I love it even more because you held your hands up and explained you changed your mind about 2 billion.

I’m thinking it won’t quite reach Endgame but I do think there’s a likely chance that it surpasses Titanic and claims the #3 spot
Hollywood is thriving Lets Gooooo
The incredible success of Avatar and Top Gun needs to be a lesson to Hollywood, especially when compared to the (relative) failure of the MCU's 2022 slate.

It is safe so say TWOW will eventually settle as 3rd all time, it made ~200mil this week WW, but the gap between Titanic and Endgame (or Avatar original realese of 2.743) is too big.
Terminator 2 is still his best movie followed closely by titanic then avatar
Haters gonna hates, this movie was fantastic and obviously resonated with people.
Cameron has now said the movie has broken even , wow
It broke even at 1.5 billion
To predict how much the WoW will ultimately gross, one just has to look at the timelines of BO grossing:
- Domestically, the line is tapering off, parallel to what Avatar (2009) did, but 10% above.
It'll pass No Way Home soon, but not today. That total contains the estimated $8m domestic number from today. I'm guess it will pass one Wednesday.
It has passed mid spiderman. International number for Monday is 14 million which are not added in this...
Guys Infinity Saga has 2 films in top 5 directed by Russo’s….thats insane as well 😉
I knw i knw their other material is not as consistent as Cemron…
I really want you to compare who u rate more….Speilberg or Cameron….BOTF
Doesn't hold nearly the same amount of weight as James Cameron's movies making that much. Even though I think infinity war is better than avatar 1 and 2
I mean that what's a movie that have 10 years of hype and characters does
And I think what made it better is the timing wakanda forever has their moments in theaters and they put this film in December January isn't anything and gives them plenty of time and all they have to do is just wait until 2 weeks into February where Marvel will have his turn again but still by the time they reached at there obtained everything they need and it's all about keeping it in the theaters for as long as you can until practically everyone has seen it
James Cameron practicing his Hulk Hogan's infamous "I can't hear you taunt" to the haters right now.
