The free agent market was ridiculous this year. Players in their mid 30's getting multi year deals at or over 6 mill per year (some at 8+ mil) is great for the player and incredibly dumb for the organization. Sure, Nashville got better this year and maybe next, but by year 3 of the Stamkos(4 x 8mil), Skjei (7 x 7 mil), Marchessault (5 x 5.5 mil) deals they are in cap hell with aging players. I'm perfectly happy with how Yzerman filled holes in free agency but didn't kill the cap for the future with aging superstars like Stammer. The Wings have gotten better every single year under Yzerman and we have our own budding superstars. So he didn't make a splash in free agency, so what...it's not 1999 anymore and you win through the draft not free agency. The Wings prospect pool is top tier and very soon, we will see the vision of the Yzerplan produce.

This season was a great year to be an FA. That $ is gone now, it’ll be tighter next season. Some of those contracts are gonna be made right away or in a couple years

while i agree paying mid aged 30yr old players is not smart, youre wrong saying theyll be in cap hell. If we assume the cap increases $3+mil year over year, the preds will be fine within their cap structure and those contracts wont seem as expensive by the tail end of them when payers like marner and draisaitl most likely getting $13-$15+mil

@@DegenRedWingFan maybe not complete cap hell, but teams are definitely going to regret some of these long term contracts at high $$...Skjei at 7 mil for 7 years...yikes.

Seider is already a stud defenseman, and Axel Sandin Pellikka has the talent to be great. I could also throw names like Berggren, Edvinsson, Brandsegg-Nygård, Kasper and Nate Danielson. I'll take this future.

The Atlantic was really really bad? What are you talking about? Bottom end of Atlantic was 76 points, others were 66 for metro, 52 for central, 47 Pacific, total points? Lets see, 678 points for the Pacific, 732 for the Metro, 737 for the Central, 748 for the Atlantic, other then the cut off on the east being 91 points (which is more because there was less feeder teams) in what possible way was the Atlantic "very very bad"

I think people put far too much emphasis on the Walman trade. While it was a little weird, trading Walman opened a spot. Honing in on that specific move is just as weird as, if not weirder than, the idea that the Wings could be buyers/sellers without having played a single game yet. I get it, people crave content, and writers crave readers, but even the mere suggestion that the team will be sellers on 6 March 2025 is kinda insane. Let's all just cool our collective jets and look at how the roster shakes out during camp and preseason.

Last year the wings fell asleep 3 times for 10 game stretches and still almost made the playoffs. If they avoid that they make the playoff by a mile, so to me we are in good shape....

Without the prospects stepping up it's hard to see the Wings finishing better than last year. The offense lost too many contributors and defense is just as bad. Best case I could see them finishing 4th and worst at 7th.

Wings are my favorite team, so I may be a bit biased, but I think they'll be in the 7-10 range in the East. I'd feel a lot more confident in this team if they enhanced their right D. I mean, it's looking like Petry is going to be on second pair, and that's a disaster. I'm also not thrilled about their goaltending. None of their goalies scream "playoffs" to me. I'd actually like them to sell off some of the pieces, Copp, Veleno, the entire defense from last year except Seider, Edvinsson, and maybe Chiarot as long as he's not on the top line, and Husso. I just don't see us getting anything for those guys. Like, they could be sellers, but I don't see anyone buying what we're selling.

don't forget detroit has future considerations coming. detroit may TRADE a couple of players or detroit may end up moving cap space one way or another, or steve may end up with a draft pick in the next year or two. there's a plethora of options at hand to make the walman trade a winner for detroit in the not too distant future. think about it.

I think Yzerman is going to be a seller but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think someone is going to force their way onto the roster and he's going to try to offload one or two expiring contracts. I don't expect him to sell anything of value.

  • @colbyarbuckle6588

I don't think I'm worried necessarily about the upcoming season but the fact is our gm traded a fan favorite on a good contract away for nothing in return and then after losing walman and ghost they're replaced with Edvinson and Gus. And then we signed another 35 year old goalie but to two years. Yzerman is great at drafting and has done well overall rebuilding but 3 fa he's made at least one massive mistake. Chiarot and holl signings and then signing so much depth in fa that there's no real room for any of the draft picks to push for nhl jobs. I think we should trust the process but also it's been almost 10 years since the wings have seen the playoffs and yzerman is going into his 6th year it's time to see more than improvement it's time to go back to the playoffs and start working towards contending for a cup in the coming seasons. So we better finish with more than 92 points otherwise I think then we start having different convos

WELL, nobody will be 'Griddy' dancing this year at Red Wings games I guarantee it. Also he felt he gave the coach a competitive team last year and the coaching staff failed at organizing team defensive play. SO, he is giving them a similar team again this year with the directive to button up defense. It's not hard to understand. Step back and look at the bigger picture with an unbiased view.

Berggren plus whatever else will get it done.
Tell Mcgroarty.. You think you can make the NHL team. There's one spot. But it's either for you, Danielson Kasper or Mazur.. If you can't outperform them, you are in the AHL.
