You never hear from the Ducks in these rumors. By definition Zegras is better compared to any of the Habs top prospects. Therefore this trade doesn’t come close to what the Ducks would expect in a Zegras trade. When Zegras is an 80 point player next year every pundit will just pretend the criticism never happened. I don’t believe the Habs have the trade assets necessary to trade for Zegras unless they trade from the top of the prospect system and from the roster.

Ripped off? Mailloux hasn't done anything in the NHL. Nada. Hate him all you want, even after is injurie plagued season last year but Zegras is the fourth most productive player (points wise) in his draft class. He is worth significantly more than what was offered.

@@AnaheimRobIm sorry what are u talking about. Mailloux is one of those prospects that have the real potential to be a good 2 way top 4 defenseman. In fact, hes done very well in the AHL solidifying as the 3rd best defenseman in points in the AHL. He made the all star games in the AHL and trading him would slow this rebuild completely. Not to mention we have to offer the first round pick aka Michael Hage who is a good 2 way centre and has potential to be a top 6 forward. Im sorry but imo i think zegras isn’t what Montreal would need at this time and the fact he is very overrated.

@@matthew7827 Potential is just that....potential. It can never compare to actual, concrete NHL results. The kid may be great, but sometimes great prospects bust at he NHL level. I'm glad if real, the trade didn't go through. By the time Zegras is done with his current contract he will be a point per game player or very close. The Ducks will either extend his contracts or trade him for a lot more than what they would have gotten here.

@@AnaheimRob Right handed defenseman are one of the hardest positions to find in hockey and to find a good 2 way one is even harder. Im just saying Montreal trying to build a very stacked D core in the near future, thats why they say defense wins u championships. Obviously, Mailloux played one game in the nhl and looked solid plus hes looking to get himself a roster spot next season because of the season he had last season in the AHL. If u also gotta add a first round then yes that’d be a huge ripoff. First rounds can be valuable even the later rounds.

@@matthew7827 RD's are worth a lot. That is for sure. There are a lot of "ifs" when dealing with young players who either haven't reached their ceiling or haven't had any NHL success yet. For me, I do not want to see Zegras moved. Watching him play just about every game the past three years it is easy for me to see how special he is, if a bit unique. No, he isn't a Verbeek type but the Ducks do need some diversity and Zegras fits that bill perfectly. There is no guarantee he will be a 90 point per season player but the skill is there. That and he did make noticeable strides in his two way game that the media never covers. The last ten games of the season he was the Ducks best player on the ice most of the time. I think he takes a step forward this coming season. There just is no reason the Ducks should trade him especially right now when odds are he will have a significantly better season this year than last. I think he should stay on the Ducks long term, but if he is to be traded now is the worst time because a low return would come back to haunt the team in a big way...imo

@@AnaheimRob I know, and i know we r in a rebuild, but that's the point, this whole offseason, we didnt do anything, (other then the draft), which was awesome! But we still have the same team as we did last year, and i realize some players are expected to take steps forward, and some players are hopefully going to be healthy for the season, or the majority at least. I just want to see some improvement to our offense. if my old man was still alive, he wouldnt believe that his team sunk so low, i am not all pessimistic, lol, i do have a lot of hope for the future, but the team we have now, even with Demidov, isn't enough, not even enough to make the playoffs. We need offense, i think that should be our main priority, our D is good, they're young, but they will be good, just in time, and our goaltending isn't bad, we have Fowler coming up, he could be our #1, we need some goal scorers tho. If Dach stays healthy, he might get 20 goals, same as Newhook, they haven't really shown me that they're capable of more then that yet, Slaf, we have to be realistic, if he can put up 25 goals next year, that's a huge win, and if Caufield can hit his stride, and be consistent, he could hit 40, it's a lot of ifs. I just want goal scorers please!!! lol. .I think we're alright everywhere else. Sorry i didnt mean to go on this long. lol. Have a good day man.

@@toddlauretteHabsforlifeNo worries. I like long, well thought out comments. As a Ducks fan I have to say, unfortunately, the Habs will be just fine. That is meant in a very good way....For the Canadians anyway. Like the Ducks they have many young players that have a lot to prove. The thing is most of them will be very good with more than a few future all stars. In four or five years the Habs may be the Ducks main competition when they eventually reach the finals. I think the Habs are on that trajectory. In half a decade their main competition in the Eastern conference to reach the finals will more than likely be the Devils or Red Wings and maybe Philly. For the Ducks it will Definity be either the Hawks or Sharks. A Ducks Habs showdown could potentially happen...It will just take some time. The Kids coming up or that just started for both teams are mostly very skilled and very talented. Many of the prospects will make it. Some may not but odds are the majority of the higher end ones will be in the NHL for long careers. A lot of upside to be excited about.

He's got talent with the puck, but does he add anything to a team without it ? I bet every team in the league has been called about Zegras, and the call probably goes ok Pat, we will take him at 50% of what you're asking.
