It's funny that in the '80s into the '90s, the multi-camera sitcom ruled the airwaves. I remember the Top Ten programs were made up mostly of sitcoms ("Cheers," "The Cosby Show," "Roseanne," "Family Ties," "Friends," "Seinfeld," and so on), but nowadays (and it has been so for over a decade) crime/investigative dramas are the ones that dominate (the "Law & Order" and "CSI" franchises, for example). "Murder, She Wrote" was ahead of its time, but it still did quite well despite its genre.
