My father was at this performance. At the time he was in military intelligence, stationed at Teufelsberg (aka Field Station Berlin). He told me that if he was given the choice again, he wouldn't go to hear Ella. Every song he's heard since that night has been a disappointment. "That voice should have been reserved for heaven."
Ella is such a jazz legend & performed for over 6 decades. She was known for her purity of tone & scat singing. She had a great solo career but also did quite a few collaborations with Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington & The Ink Spots. Some of their hits were "Dream A Little Dream Of Me", "Cheek to Cheek", "Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall", & "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)". This is timeless music that has endured for decades.
You can’t take your eyes off of her, and you can’t take your ears off of her! There will never ever be another talent like Ella Fitzgerald. It’s why these live performances are so important, and newcomers to her voice are so important.
Such a simple backing band, piano and the brushes on the drums which perfectly compliment Ella's beautiful and perfectly controlled vocals. Such a stunning performance!!😱😱🇬🇧
LEGEND!! She is so amazing. Everyone needs to know her. I’m glad you reacted to her. Would love more Ella, and maybe some Louis Armstrong, all the classics. Thank you!!
QoFy thanks for this! My day has been one musical treat after another- first your song this morning, then this reaction, and I just got in the mail a 2 LP vinyl of Nina Simone (that includes an entire album of live recordings!)

I was a toddler when this song came out. Thanks to my mom, I grew up listening to jazz legends like Ella. I love her!! You're the best QoFy ❤️🎶✨

Feel the song, Ella was all about the soul of the music. Her duet of summertime with Louis Armstrong is my favourite.

My absolute favourite song by a favourite artist. Good music lives eternally. Thanks for playing such a goodie Qofy.

Wow, Heather! Nina Simone is amazing. What a treasure those recordings must be!
@@rosedouglas9586 I'm not listening to the albums until after work tomorrow (it's killing me!) I'll send pics in discord- the song list is amazing!
Great reaction 😊
Ella is the queen! 👑 Great analysis, QoFy! Curious if you’ve seen Avi’s version of this song from 2013? 🔥 ruclips.net/video/lANLfVgIC9c/видео.html
