Also I noticed it says “Episode 1” so I don’t know if the second will be related to Floor too or if it is like a serie of episodes about different musicians and that. Floor is just amazing! 🤘
One thing I have to disagree with, is all the other female singers have their own style, but Floor does not have a style, she can do it all, which is why I consider her the best active female singer on the planet.
@@dbcanada I think one of her best assets is "storytelling", which I would argue to "be her style". She is one of the few singers on this planet who is not shying away from being vulnerable towards the songs and lyrics - being empathic towards them - and then displaying them perfectly to the viewer/listener.
Especially live, I think one of her strongest skills is stage prescense and her technical singing in a wide area. She is so much in control that she will never disappoint during a live concert. Its the reason why her concert videos are the most popular.

While I believe Floor is the better singer, my favorite is still Sharon Den Adel. I just prefer Within Temptations style of music a bit more. Not a knock on Nightwish at all, they are utterly amazing and have insanely complex yet simple music, just theres something about WT that just moves me more.

Floor Jansen, our Dutch hidden gem! I am so happy she finally gets more recognized in her own freaking country. I am almost ashamed I did not discover her sooner than last year in my own country.. But now that I have, I feel nothing but pride and admiration for her as a fellow Dutchie :3

Great singer ok. Can sing in different bands in different styles ok. Can play instruments ok. BUT you forgot that she's also got an incredible stage performer with a quite magic charisma. And, cherish on the cake, she's also a smiling, funny, and maybe one of the kindest person with her community. What else?...

@@PAULSWorld131 The girls of Ogene are great when performing together, those harmonies are killer, but Floor on her own, outshines all three of them easilly. Many people also say Davina Michelle is the best Dutch female vocalist. My reaction to all of this is; both Ogene and Davina are young, and both of them have lots to learn in order to be compared to a seasoned artist like Floor Jansen.

"Didn't have enough time to learn every song..." that's putting it lightly. She had about 48 hours notice before she went on stage in Seattle. Pulling that off is insane, and few others could hope to do the same.
Pretty sure that whole thing about her having 48 hours to learn is bullshit, considering she made no mistakes at Wacken, which was a few weeks later. Pretty sure this was planned long in advance, and she had the time to learn the songs prior to coming to Denver. Anyone believing that crap is as silly as Tuomas for thinking the fans are that dumb.
@@michaelvedal1907 yes and no.... so she had known she was going to replace Annette in a few months time. but when Annette got sick she only had 48 to get from her home to the US and learnt the set list. she might have started learning it before hand as she knew she was going to be replacing Annette but that was meant to be months away, not in 48 hours.

Floor is definitely a gem！ love her since After Forever . Actually I was quite sad when AF ends…but glad that she joined Nightwish which is kinda the best of both worlds to me.

I did see Floor in her very first show with Nightwish in Seattle....and saw Annette's last show two days prior in Salt Lake City. I do love both of them....and it feels pretty cool, especially to be one of the very few fans (if not the only fan), to have experienced that transition.
Thanks for this great documentary, but one small remark: you mention a few front woman at the beginning and forget one of the best and versatile singers who inspired Floor “ Anneke van Giersbergen with the band The Gatering. The Gatering is an amazing band which can create an amazing musical atmosphere.

This is a good video, it is pretty accurate with what she has done, i am a fan of floor jansen(after forever) since 2001, when i was 12-13 years old. and ive watched everything happaning along the way, iv listened to so many other female singers over the years inlduing all the names you said at the start( most of them ar dutch like floor) im also dutch so it makes me proud we have some of the best out there. But floor is definetely THE NR 1 singer out there today, her storytelling sining is maybe her best quality, she has not 1 style but many, thats why she is the best today
This 'documentary' does not even mention once that Floor is Dutch or how she ended up singing for a Finnish band as a woman from The Netherlands. In this documentary all these different countries or nationalities of people are never mentioned and that makes it very hard to follow where what is going on.
It is absolutely not true that Floor was the sole composer of After Forever after Mark left the band. She wasn't even the main composer. She was the main lyricist, but Sander Gommans and Joost van den Broek were the main composers.
So you name four female singers and three of them are Dutch. Feeling pretty proud to be Dutch now 🇳🇱 Floor is amazing, as are the other ones you mentioned, but Floor is among the most versatile artists globally.

I liked this short documentary. More these. It can be about Alissa White-Gluz, Simone Simmons, Or Sharon... So there is lots of history to sink your teeths in.
Regarding Nightwish... I think Tarja is probably the stronger pure classical-style operatic singer, but the thing about Floor is just that she's baseline good at everything but FUCKING FANTASTIC at several things. Her use of emotion and dynamics in how she sings is unparalleled, and has really transformed several of their songs for the better. She's also possibly the best belter on the planet, with insane vocal stamina. And then to top it all off, she has a great stage presence that just makes you smile watching her - and the band clearly love her too. It felt like she mended something intangible in the band's soul that was broken after Tarja left, in a way Annette unfortunately never seemed able to.
how did she get there hmm hard work and then a bit more hard work -- having a good voice -- yes like lots of people with an obvious skill they do not push the skill as its easy -- not this lady -- the total joy you see when she sings is there for all to see -- training usually removes this but not this lady just made it more obvious -- when she sings Ever Dream/Nightwish just look at the smile and sheer joy as she performs -- helps she has an amazing family (Hannes front and center matey)
another thing , 2:06 Floor did not compose any music for After Forever, she did lyrics, the music was composed by Sander Gommans and Mark Jansen for Prison of desire and Decipher
Mark Jansen left the band... That's very polite. He was kicked out of his own band before a rehearsal... I highly recommend it.
For me, the the saddest thing about Floor in Nightwish is that they don't even begin to use her potential. I wish they would do another album like Once or Century Child, so Floor can use her operatic voice. But instead, they do songs that probably even Annette could sing. I don't mean that they have to do an album with 10x Ghost Love Score, but IMO this is the best Nightwish song and the song where Floor can actually show what an unbealieveable fantastic singer she is.

The BBC has effectively banned them. It's pathetic - a form of official censorship. I suspect it's the same in the US and many European countries (even those that produced them). If it wasn't for RUclips I would never have stumbled across them. What a revelation it was. Thank goodness for the loyal Metal fan bases that sustain them. How did we get here???

Regarding Nightwish... I think Tarja is probably the stronger pure classical-style operatic singer, but the thing about Floor is just that she's baseline good at everything but FUCKING FANTASTIC at several things. Her use of emotion and dynamics in how she sings is unparalleled, and has really transformed several of their songs for the better. She's also possibly the best belter on the planet, with insane vocal stamina. And then to top it all off, she has a great stage presence that just makes you smile watching her - and the band clearly love her too. It felt like she mended something intangible in the band's soul that was broken after Tarja left, in a way Annette unfortunately never seemed able to.

how did she get there hmm hard work and then a bit more hard work -- having a good voice -- yes like lots of people with an obvious skill they do not push the skill as its easy -- not this lady -- the total joy you see when she sings is there for all to see -- training usually removes this but not this lady just made it more obvious -- when she sings Ever Dream/Nightwish just look at the smile and sheer joy as she performs -- helps she has an amazing family (Hannes front and center matey)
another thing , 2:06 Floor did not compose any music for After Forever, she did lyrics, the music was composed by Sander Gommans and Mark Jansen for Prison of desire and Decipher

For me, the the saddest thing about Floor in Nightwish is that they don't even begin to use her potential. I wish they would do another album like Once or Century Child, so Floor can use her operatic voice. But instead, they do songs that probably even Annette could sing. I don't mean that they have to do an album with 10x Ghost Love Score, but IMO this is the best Nightwish song and the song where Floor can actually show what an unbealieveable fantastic singer she is.
I would dispute that they're widely appreciated. In global terms they're practically unknown (which isn't fair).
And that is the world's loss.
@@janemarie1413 We never hear these bands and their amazing singers on our terrestial media in the UK (telly or radio). I have never heard them mentioned ONCE or their music played. The BBC has effectively banned them. It's pathetic - a form of official censorship. I suspect it's the same in the US and many European countries (even those that produced them).
If it wasn't for RUclips I would never have stumbled across them. What a revelation it was. Thank goodness for the loyal Metal fan bases that sustain them.

@@janemarie1413 the Queensryche to NW transition is a common one,QR used to be my fav back in the day,unique and smart, but alas NW is on another level, but even tho I heard them 20yrs ago at that time I also heard Floor with AfterForever and wished she was the lead for NW,then one day :)
