Because those babies would be in their late 20s/early 30s if the new one is set in present time. However the girls in the new ones are teens, meaning they were born in the early-mid 2000s. If we're following their original kids as teens, this would set the 3rd movie around 2005-2006 and not 2019-2020. This movie took place in 1990, eventhough the actual film was made in 1991. Same deal with the first movie being set in 1988, despite being made a year later.
Bogus Journey actually takes place in 1993, even though it came out in '91. When they're auditioning for Battle of the Bands and they introduce the princesses, they say "celebrating their 5th year in the 20th century..." If the princesses arrived in the 20th century at the end of the first film, which took place in 88, then BJ is in 93! Their daughters are 24 in the new movie, so technically the new movie should take place in 2017, but it's close enough :)

No, they are girls from the start since the babies are played by two baby girls. Plus the creator did clear up the confusion on that.

@@romanramirez7847 it's not about hating women, it's about pushing agenda and politics into movies to make some sort of stupid "women power!" point. I'd gladly like this movie as long as the daughters and fathers work TOGETHER to make the song. it would suck to see only the daughters saving the world. I'd like to see them working together.
