Your review (content and style) is one of the best ones (if not The Best) I've seen. Thank you for this! It's a good push for beginners or ones who are getting back into inline skating after years of not. ;) Looking forward to more extensive reviews from you.
After 18 years without touching a pair of skates I took the fam to decathlon and we all bought a pair of these. Honestly I'm very impressed at how good they are for the price. Cheaper skates have come a long way over these two or so decades.
These are great training skates, and when feel like upgrading, your feet will feel light and free! 😁 That’s great to hear you and your family are getting (back) into skating! Enjoy!
I bought these Oxelo's on your first video review/recommendation of these months ago. In the weeks since I've been practicing getting my skate up to standard for flow skates in the busy city streets of Birmingham, using a smooth and quiet nearby multistorey car park as a practice spot. It was important to me to get responsibly confident on them so that I represented the skating community well and wasn't a danger to other pedestrians. So I went out for my first flow skate last night in the thronging streets, it was fantastic and really tested all my weeks of practice on the unexpected surfaces, quick decision jumps and obstacles. I would concur with your review of these excellent skates and can't wait to get out into the streets on them again.
Just ordered a pair of these today. My first set of skates and at 50 yrs of age, I am enjoying my newfound hobby, skating with my daughter. Great review. Looking forward to breaking them in.
A great in depth review Rich. I looked at these a year ago when I took up skating but they were out of stock in my size. ( I later learned that sales of inline skates during lockdown have increased by 1700%!). Surprized that Oxelo said the boot wasn't heat mouldable, I'd have thought any hard plastic was heat mouldable. My Flying Eagle skates caused me extreme pain on my inside right ankle bone after only 10 minutes, and I had to heat mould them twice using a rounded wooden wedge stuck inside to hold the pressure point out while it cooled. It worked a treat and now I have zero discomfort. Having watched this review I'd definitely recommend this skate to anyone new to our group, Cheers
Excellent work, getting the feedback from from the company. I bought these skates as a complete beginner to try an learn to skate (at the ripe old age of 43). I have nothing to compare to, but I was impressed given the price. I picked them up a few months ago when they were a bit cheaper. I was wondering about replacement parts and glad they are making parts replaceable. 👍
Not sure when they’ll be available but it’s good that they will be. I haven’t had to replace a thing, aside from the wheels, and only recently have I needed to do that. If they’re rotated regularly they’ll last.
Nice, i´m not alone ! I also bought there skates as an absolute beginner at 42 ;) And, jesus yeah, i had lots of pain. But nothing to complain about these skates 👍 I just enjoy beeing teached by my 6yr old daughter and start becoming better.
Good to see there are another crazy fourties - I (41) just bought these skates, this video helps a lot to decide. I'm jumping between "what a fun!!!" and "OMG what am I doing?!?" But I like it! :)
43 here about to start skating after taking grandkids ice skating my mind was like waoh it's like you 16 again ,body was like you just fall 4 times haha but I love it so looking for inline skates budget beginner friendly saw review witch was great btw my problem is I don't have shop around I'm size 9 (43) online they are 8.5 (43) and 9.5 (44) kinda lost here how you find sizing like ? Thanks
10 month ago, I bought these skates after your review. I have been using this every day, and they are still perfect. I had only to change bearings due to rust. Thanks!
such a good review, rly good idea to do it after 9 months of use, also i like that youre not talking bad about features that could be better (like the straps which do their job fine), or the fact that the bearings have some resistance and could even be beneficial to a beginner, i think this approach to reviews is very important, great video again
Thanks for your comment! 🙏 I wanted it to be authentic, and I also kept the cost in mind, which is a key part of it. If you were paying more then naturally you’d expect more, but I wanted to emphasise that you get a great overall package for that price. And you really don’t need to pay a fortune for a fun skating experience, imho.
All of your videos about the mf500 where amazing. I'm really glad they said that they're gonna start selling parts for them. I just ordered them and your review was one of the reasons why. I've just been getting back into skating after more than 10 years and I think there gonna be a perfect set for it.
Excellent review, sir! Makes me confident in my purchase! Bought these to learn how to skate properly. Previously, I had made the mistake of buying Powerslide Doop Skates as a travel commuter and fitness tool, although I hadn't skates since childhood. Almost broke my ankle with them 3 months ago after a few practice sessions in these. Although I'd felt secured in the Doops, the actual ankle support's like day and night. I can only stay on the sideline now and hope to heal up so that I may roll out in these red&white beauties once again. Ya keep it up, mate! You're an inspiration! 🙌👊🤟
Thanks for the feedback! Take care of that ankle! Plenty of rehab to repair those ligaments and tendons. Hope you get out soon to enjoy these Awesome skates! 😁
thank you for making such a detailed review! it helps a lot for beginners like me, who are looking for some skates to begin with. i was a bit hesitant about these skates at first, but now i'm planning on buying them on my birthday this 21st. thank you again!!
The Oxelo MF500 are something really unique where the price and the quallity are extremely close to where you want them. Let me begin to tell my pros and cons, Pros: the price, it is a hard shell, the frame is solid, the skates grips around your feet, And i my self do not experience any ankle pain. Cons: the wheels do tare down fast, the ankle straps do easilly ware down but with replacements coming in the near future this shouldn’t be a problem. The bolts for the wheels suck but they work. I my self started skating about 3 months ago and ofc did not want to break the bank on a new hobby. I found these on decathlon and googled reviews and yours was the first one that popped up. So thank you for convincing me that i should buy these skates back than cause it changed these past 3 months in a massive way. My friends bought more expensive powerslide blades wich where not as supportive as mine so i was progressing really quickly compared to them. And with watching your yt channel i grown to love assault skating (as bill likes to call it), and love the grind on these. So i would also highly reccomend these skates, the first couple of times it may be hard but when you get the hang of it, you will be flying just like rich. -Mark
Thanks for feedback, Mark, and I'm glad my initial remarks helped convinced you to try them. They defo have a lot to offer - especially beginners - and they are also very modifiable for when you want to upgrade.
Thanks for your review. I bought these skates yesterday, they made a „black week“ discount and i pay 75€. Unbeatable. I am 44 and these are my first inline skates ever. You brought me to this skates and to that new hobby, because i want to loose a bit of weight… and 4 fitness… Thx…greeds from Germany
Very grateful for both your intial review and this one, 9 months in. I'm coming to inline-skating from skiing/snowboarding/longboarding/LDP. Basically I want a low-impact cardio workout which is 'fun'.....looks like I've found the skates to suit my needs. After perusing a confusing marketplace I've settled on the OXELO MF500's, just ordered today. I especially like the fact that you went into detail about the frame mounting options. It looks like the boys & girls at OXELO/Decathlon did their homework too; it would have been easy to go for a riveted frame/boot combo at this price-point. Thanks once again.
This video is main reason for getting me into buying mf 500 and at first they seemed small in size 46 and that i needed 47. Since they don't make it in 47 i just went for 46 and at first i felt pressure on top of my big toe, but now i don't. Today i rolled for 10km and loved it. What a bargain! Thumbs up for the video!
Hi Richard, You are truly an inspiration. Found your channel while searching for mf500 and just fell in love with your content. I am totally new to skating but have always enjoyed seeing you move. I am looking into skating related workouts like dryland skating workouts to initially build my quad strength so that I can learn skating faster. It would really be helpful if you could put up a tutorial on how to inline skate for beginners so that we can learn from your experience without making the mistakes. Lots of love from India :)
Hey, thanks for your comment! I'm glad you enjoy my content. I will be posting tips and tutorial-style videos in the future, so stay tuned! For now, just keep skating! 👍
My daughter has asked for skates for her 13th Birthday in a couple of weeks, I skated as a kid but now at 41 I'm somewhat reluctantly going to give it another go so she'll have someone to skate with. After hours of researching much more expensive skates I've just ordered a pair of these based off of your extensive review. I figured if this guy has used these so much that they now look like my old hockey skates, they must be a decent pair especially for the price. Thank you. Oh, and I subbed so you're officially my first 'Skating RUclipsr' Sub.
That’s all great to hear!! 😁 Everything in this review are my genuine beliefs about these skates; I always recommend them, especially to new skaters, because of the price and the fun I’ve had on them personally. I hope you find them to be as good as I have - I’m sure you will - and it won’t take you long to remember the fun times you had skating as a kid! And it’s Awesome you and your daughter are taking up something new together! I’m sure you’ll have a blast! 😁👊
@@RichHayterSkater I'm now making my way through your channel and wishing I'd just driven to Southampton to get them rather than ordered online. So excited! Hat off to you making the most of that Scottish urban landscape. I really appreciate a RUclips education ESPECIALLY a British one, so will be following this channel closely as we dive in!
Thank you, I’m glad you’re enjoying the content and I hope it helps! 🙏 Scotland can be harsh at times, but I feel it’s challenged me to be a better skater. Some parts are also nice to look at! 😁
I'm 38 year old I've never used skates , I bougtht them one mounth ago because mi wife and my 6 year old dauther are skating together and I want to be part of that activity. Unfortunately I had a accident trying some new tricks for me, my ankle bent and I will be resting for 2 weeks although I am anxious to try the skates again and continue practicing and improving, I would be happy to be able to have the security of riding with skates in the street like you. I am anxious to try on the skates again and continue practicing and improving, I would be happy to be able to have the security of skating in the street like you. Love yours videos and reviews and this one tell me I took a good decision.
I bought a pair of these after looking around and I'm so glad I bought them. Bang for buck, these rock. Bit heavier than the semi soft boots as to be expected but I literally ramped them on the first day and they have gone above what I expected. They're amazing boots that I will enjoy for maybe years. Bit of advice to anyone thinking of getting them., Buy one size up.
Fantastic review! Really wish all reviews were in this style, honest and real. Seems like the perfect beginner skate and I bet upgrading the liners would make a big difference. Probably cost more than the skates tho
Thanks for your feedback! 🙏 I always recommend this skate to people now. Personally, I’ve had a great experience with them, and for the price, you really can’t go wrong. I agree about the liners, which is why I haven’t gone down that road to rectify the ankle discomfort, as it then makes them less cost effective, which offsets the benefits of getting them. I’m still working on it. 😁
@@RichHayterSkater cool. I’ve got wide feet is this ok? I’m currently skating in aeons which took a good couple months to form to my foot is this skate the same ?
It’s difficult to comment on this because I don’t think I have wide feet. All I can say is that I’ve never had an issue with foot pain using these skates. These are sold from Decathlon, so why not see if you can try them on first?
Got these a few months ago. As a beginner i absolutely love them. The look good and are easy to learn on. You're right about the weight, theyre a bit on the heavy side.
Maaan that's a really gread Review! So complete, well explained and nice to watch also. I have MF500s and really like them, your video and tricks enspire me to go ahead and train and learn more, Thanks!
Amazing review! Thanks you so much! Felt like i was watching animal planet about skates - calm voice, all the necessary info, good video and sound content. Thank you thank you thank you!
I've just bought a pair of these and I can't wait to try them out. I've been looking to buy a pair for years now, as i used to have some as a kid and loved them. I hope i can get even half as good as tou at skating, they don't seem that much slower than a pushbike.
Hey again. Couple months ago I asked you if those skates would be good for the first skates and you answered yes. I had to wait some time with my purchase because of some personal stuff to be solved and finally I can grab a pair of skates to enjoy the sport. I wanted to go for one of the more expensive rollerblades and bought FR FRX. At home I realized their liner is pretty massive and I felt a real pain in the outside mid-feet area. Tried to make it work for a few hours but the pain would only increase. So now I replaced them with the Powerslide Zoom Pro 80. At shop they felt very good. No pain, decent hold of my feet, no free space in the liner. But when I tested them at home the next day, they feel way more too loose. I don't want to return them as well because people at local shop will think I am an idiot. The biggest loose is in the upper area of the liner where it ends (tibia). I realized I put there pantlegs when I was testing it at shop. I had no such an issue in FRX because the liner was less roomy at the top. What would you do? I am afraid the Zooms might get way too loose after I burn them out. I am really thinking about returning them to the shop. Should I cut the cuff and strap at the top? Don't know if it would eventually solve the problem but I am sure that it will make it unable to return the skates.
I like that in the description you put your boot size and mondopoint, would suggest including width as well. Great video review. I'll be getting my first skates in over 20 years this weekend, pretty excited.
Posting this comment here in case it helps any other bigfooted skaters - I love my MF500s but I found that some of my toes were going numb about an hour into each skate session. After some experimentation I realised that it was the elastic strap going over the top of the liner that was restricting blood flow in my feet! Swapped the liners for some £50 powerslide myfit lites, heat moulded them, and no more numb toes :)
Amazing review mate. These are amazing for the price. I am using them as my primary skates now in conjunction with powerslide imperials. People who are interested in these mf500 go for 1 size smaller and then break them in. I m 43 shoe size and went for 41, in the beginning they were uncomfy but then I applied some cushioning inside where the screws are. They literally feel like glued to my feet now. Super control while jumping and backward. Groundproof wheels are excellent. I have the yellow version of these skates and can't recommend anymore. They look amazing. They give rollerblade xt run for their money. Oxelo has made premier product on budget price
I just ordered a pair, on the site they recommend to take one size bigger than your shoe size. I have also size 43 and ordered them in size 44. I hope they will fit...
@@pympymd I think all depends on the type of foot. I have standard to narrow feet with high arch, I had to go size down to get perfect fit. I like boot really tight around my feet so I can have better control.
Fantastic review! I've had these for a short time but changed to the FRX-80 as I wanted to have the option of a rockered setup without having to buy extra wheels. The threaded frame in the FRX also made the choice easier. Thinking of trying the MF-900 for my first pair of triskates!
I have inner ankle pain on both sides (mf500). Its symmetrical. I looked at the liner and saw that pressure from boot compressed it so it is a part of the problem. The eyelet of the boot is the original problem. But here is the interesting thing. The pain does not stop when I put the foamy pad between the liner and the boot but does stop when I put it between the sock and the liner.
@@RichHayterSkater I keep experimenting with the thickness and positioning of the foam inserts but can not stop the pain. It is manageable for an hour but then it is too much and I have to stop the session.
Many thanks for that video and time dedicated to the review to the MF500, because I'm thinking to buy a new MF900 but that's another story. 🧐 Greetings from Panama ✋
Amazing video. I just bought a pair of Rollerblade 80s, but I would also want a second pair for several reasons (especially hard boot) and this is definitely what I was looking for. Thanks a lot and congrats!
Thanks for the review. Started from scratch 7 months ago. Felt uncomfortable in the calf from the beginning, tried some soft stuff in and changed socks thickness, so that in the end I can use them for nearly two hours with "affordable" few pain spots in my feet. Changed wheel hardness to 88 Spinner and feel lot more smooth sliding any surface (I'm a heavyweight), although the Oxelo 86A felt nice from the beginning. Still a beginner but plenty of good feeling back in reward in every session both with my teacher, a "skater from the cradle" (Spanish literal translation), and myself alone getting experience on my own. Gracias.
Ok so I checked they have finally brought them to the states but they're $129. So it's pretty easy to find used twisters in nice condition for about $180 to $200 which have nicer boot, liner, and buckles.. And easy to find replacement parts. I recall oxelo doesn't sell replacement parts yet. But for those starting out they're pretty decent overall package for sure
Yeah, I haven’t seen any replacement parts as yet but I’ve heard they’ll be available soon. I’d agree, the Twisters would probably be a better skate, but I’ve heard lots about these causing ankle pain, also.
@@RichHayterSkater yes for sure twister are a narrow skate. I had to size up. The RB pro is supposed to fit wider and costs a bit cheaper. Like everything else good and cheap it's always sold out
I'm 30 and started skating for the first time of my life a month ago. With trainer and on FRX from rental. I've ordered MF500 and can't wait to try them! I feel like they won't be as good as FRX but still - my own ones which I can do anything with, any time.
Congrats on becoming a new skater! You might be surprised by the MF500, I no longer use my Seba FR1 anymore because I actually preferred the feel of the Oxelo!
Nice work. I like the mf500 - I actually own 2 pairs, in different locations, and might well replace one as it's a bit knackered. I like the colour of the mf900. Now if they did that with 90mm wheels... To some extent you get what you pay for. I think the liners are wearing out at twice the rate of more expensive brands. But despite all the elements seeming a bit substandard, it just seems to work pretty well as a boot. With regard to the axles, I think you should mention that the heads are ridged, so you only need one Allen key to tighten them. Personally I have no problem with 2 piece axles. It seems the simplest option for a utility skate and replacements are easier to come by.
Yeah, I agree about the liner, but I feel it will last well enough, and for the price it’s more than sufficient. That said, I do feel this is the main source of ankle discomfort for me. The axels are defo something I am getting used to and can actually see benefits from, as I mentioned in the review. When I first used them they really frustrated me but I have now gotten used to them and, as you say, 1 Allen key is all that’s needed, which makes them infinitely easier to work with. For the money, these are great skates! And yeah, I also really like that MF900 colour scheme! 😁
I often use ezeefit ankle booties and yellow super feet insoles for extra comfort and protection from friction. Will probably go to a different liner on my next core skates been getting a annoying pressure point on the outside of my feet hope it works. Say hi to that Bob cat 🐈 for me. 👊
Yeah, pressure points are a pain - no pun! I’ve started using Ennui ankle protectors; It’s too soon to comment but they defo feel promising. That Bobcat’s asleep.... Again!! 😂 Lazy Mogs!
Personally I haven't had any issues with pain or pressure points when using high socks, I feel socks that are a bit thicker than usual are perfect, keeps the foot from wiggling inside the boot. Great thing about these boots is, you can always use a different liner, the standard liners are ok, but I am thinking about upgrading.
That’s good to hear. I also find thicker socks do help to reduce the discomfort. I’m pretty convinced it’s due to the liner in some way but am still playing around with a solution.
Great review @Rich Hayter Skater, thanks a ton for the details! Your feedback along with comments all over the webz helped to make the call. Been hunting them for 2 weeks until they stocked the sizes I was looking for, interesting enough they seem to stock a few units of different sizes once every 2 days or so. As for the size, both pairs for 2 people ended up being perfect with half size up from regular shoes (43.5), 27.6cm of feet length, 43 didn't fit well, 44 was perfect fit (EU sizes).
Thanks for the great review!! Got them two weeks ago, first two days everything went good, then i started to get a lot of pain on my right ankle, tried to adjust everything but nothing seems to work! Took a break for a week and first day getting back to it.. ankle pain again. I don't know if i need more time to get used to it or these skates doesn't suit me!
I have used my pair of MF 500's for about 4h or so and at least my front wheel of my drag-breaking foot is already showing considerable wear. Building breaking is my main focus at the moment so it is to be expected but still not sure of how long they will last. All and all this is probably the perfect beginner skate but even at less than €100 one should really make an effort to learn the basics and start having fun because if you are only curious and not serious about it, Oxelo sells fitness skates for half that.
I also feel this is a fantastic beginners skate, and yes, learning the basics is really important. Be sure to rotate your wheels regularly and they’ll last longer than you might think. 👍
Thanks for the review - I bought mine after this video. :) I had some roces in the 90's but totally forget almost everything so I learn but it's fun, I like it! I have the same ankle pain you described my first thought was lace but was wrong, second the buckle but wrong again. So I started to search the pressure point and I think the problem is with the shape of the plastic boot (and with the shape of my leg). I have a Bauer hockey skate and it has some extra space for the ankle but this Oxelo is flat. Because I have thin legs (I have calf but just above my le is thin) I have to pull the top ratchet more so it pulls the flat plastic to my ankle (they aren't flat). I'll try to add some extra support below the buckle (just over my ankle) so I won't have to pull the ratchet that much... I hope it helps.
I had thought it was the plastic at first and did heat the boots to bend the plastic out, but the issue persisted. It could be that this is related, but after switching to a different liner the problem seems to have disappeared.👍
Thanks! I'll try to find something like that then :) I'll take part in the 24h roller in Le Mans this summer and, eventhough I plan to do it in a different set of skates, I'd like to have this boot as a backup
Thanks, excellent review, I bought them before watching the video, but you reassured me (plus watching you disassemble them made me realize, how to attach the brake - on the other hand before I started I asked my kindergarten age daughter and she knew, what we couldn't figure out). I'd like to ask you - what are the knee pads you're using?
I am glad you found it useful! These knee pads where just a pair I was sent from a company to try out. I like them because they are pretty slim. You can find similar sets on Amazon.
Looking at buying a 2nd pair of more tougher skates than my Powerslides. Was looking at the Rollerblade Twister X or FR1's, but I'm honestly surprised you can get a skate that looks this much quality for this price. Still think I'll go for the FR1's though, as there must be some underlying quality difference and I hate the two-part axles. Sadly all Twister X's always seem to be sold out since last year.
Great review! In my county those skates are not considered budget friendly and they were in premium section when I bought them. Getting or even finding something like Fila NRK PRO is very difficult and pricy. Nevertheless I love my MF500, they worth every penny. A few days ago was skating in rainy weather and since ground is dusty in my region all that dust turned into mud and bearings started making some strange noise. I fully disassembled my skates, removed bearings from wheels and axis were different from what I saw on other skates. Are regular aftermarket parts are suitable for mf500? The only place that sells parts for Oxelo skates is Decathlon, and they are out of stock for more than a month now.
Thanks! 🙏 The bearings standard and are interchangeable with any other skate bearing. I swapped mine out for some Seba bearings. You should be able to find some on eBay.
nice review dude, i got these as my first skate too lol. I am glad that other people are getting the ankle pain cause Im getting it in both feet (but in different places oddly enough) so I have upgraded to some FR3's with some endless 100's (big wheel gang), along with some bont z customs i found on ebay (which was the steal of the century!) and the powerslide 125 marathon frames.
Thank you for the great video and the valuable information you provided. As a beginner, I wasn't sure how to start, but your video caught my attention and helped me to make a decision. Your honest opinion was really helpful, and I appreciate the time and effort you put into creating the video. Hey, thanks for your feedback! I don’t have an affiliate link, but I appreciate you asking. The aim of this channel is purely to share my experiences of skating, and to try to encourage more people to try it. I’m glad you found the review helpful. I still really recommend these skates; you can’t go wrong. Enjoy!
I have purchased these after not skating in over 20 yrs! They’re fine but there’s one thing… the 45degree buckle/strap starts skipping before I can get it tight enough. Has anyone tried swapping out the system? Do any 45degree systems fit?
Really, I’m surprised at this, I have 3 pairs of MFs and the buckles have never slipped! Have you tried squeezing the strap together with your fingers while tightening the buckle? Failing that I’m sure you’ll be able to swap them out but I’ve never tried. Let me know how get on with it. 👍
Have bought two pairs of this skates for me and my wife. little bit disappointed in build quality. 45 degree strap almost die after one week of skating on all boots :(
@@RichHayterSkater May be you have some "special edition" or may be they were different 3 years ago because some other reviewers said that the plastic is really soft on buckle
Great to get a ratchet buckle mid strap at that price, most budget skates have velcro mid straps. Also the aluminium sole plates to accommodate a good choice of frames, sounds awesome for the money. This and the Micro MT plus looks like great budget skates. And of course the FRX 80.
@@RichHayterSkater Great Job Rich, excellent skills and beautiful views! Thank you! Looking for my first skates and would be grateful for your advise - MF 500 vs FRX 80 vs RB 80 CRUISER. Will there be a noticeable difference in terms of quality and durability? The MF 500 is nearly half the price of the FR and RB. @Johro's Inline Skater Channel Johro, could you please also give your opinion?
Having never skated either of these, I can’t say too much about them. Both good brands and will no doubt be good skates. I see the FRX only has a velcro strap and I’m not sure what that would be like on a hard shell? Plus, it would seem both RB & FR only support frames with a 165mm mount, where the MF500 gives you many more options. I don’t imagine you’d go wrong with any of them, however, given the price and the quality, I’d probably still opt for the Oxelo. My first set of inlines were Seba FR1s; I decided to retire them last year because I actually preferred rolling the Oxelos. Just my personal opinion. 😁
@@RichHayterSkater sure, it's all about personal taste, and fit! The MT plus looks like very good value for money also. Me, I have three pairs of Seba fr1's 😁 and a Seba SX.
Thanks, yeah I’m experimenting with some ankle protectors at the moment. I’ve had some success by adding some padding around the ankle, but nothing consistent yet. Still working on it! 👍
@@RichHayterSkater Although they say it's not heat moldable, I have heard of people using heat guns to treat all sorts of hard frame skates. In case you have access to a heat gun, this might be worth a try as well.
You mentioned you skated in some wet conditions with the MF500s. Where I live is currently in a La Nina cycle so it's going to rain for the rest of the year. Is there a larger enough difference in grip with PS Torrent wheels (which you've reviewed) to justify upgrading the wheels and bearings?
In your situation it probably would be. As I said in the review, the addition grip is dependant on the surface but it’s definitely there. I’d say the bearings are a must! 👍
i really enjoy my MF500, however is the 243mm frame suitable for my 46eu size boot? should i change to a longer frame? i do recreational/urban mostly. thanks
My MF500s are EU44, and I personally enjoy a 243mm frame. It might be worth experimenting, however, as you might find something slightly longer suits you better.
Yes, there are 2 things you can do…1. Don’t skate on bumpy roads, 2. My preferred option, get better at skating bumpy roads. The reality is, most skates would feel the same on this type of road, and you’re probably just not used to this. You just need to practice rolling this type of surface. I made a video about this a while back. 👇 how to inline skate. Rough ground inline skating tips ruclips.net/video/W65JIFd5uoE/видео.html
Yeah, they defo roll quicker with better bearings. The abec 7s they come with are useable, and I imagine they’d be good for beginners due to their additional rolling resistance, but they’re defo not great.
@@RichHayterSkater I am starting to learn on quad skates. Inline will be my next stage. Approx launch date (Year, quarter) will help me to decide if I should wait for the next or go for the MF500 now.
The only thing I have back from Oxelo is that there will be “big things coming in September”. I’m not sure what that means but it might be an idea to see what comes from that and make your decision then?
Hello sir, it is one great review. I have been thinking about buying cheap skates to try whether I am gonna like or not. I do not want to buy SEBA or Rollerblade product just to sell it after a few rides. MF500 is priced so well that it's pretty hard to look at more expensive skates. I used to play ice hockey for 10 years so I guess it would be easier to use it and keep balance. Do you think Oxelo MF500 is enough for the first product? I used to have pretty expensive ice skates so I would love to have a premium-like product with a decent quality.
Thanks Dude! Being and ex-ice hockey player, Ive no doubts you’d enjoy inline skating. In terms of a brands, I personally skate Powerslide, USD, Rollerblade, and Oxelo, and apart from the liners and the bearings, which are changeable, the Oxelo offer amazing value for money, imho. The MF500 is a great skate, and I continue to use it despite owning skates at 3x the price. I always recommend it as a great skate to start. 👍
@@RichHayterSkater Hey again! Maybe you can help me. I cannot check the skates in my stationary shop as they are out of stock. I can order them online. I don't know whether I should go for 42 or 43 size. Using the size guide at Decathlon website it tells my to take 42. My foot is 26,5 cm and size guide suggests 42 size for feet 26,5-27 cm long. But I also called stationary shop and I was told to pick 43 as these type of skates has understated size due to its hard shell construction.
The issue here is that Oxelo don’t make this in a 43, only a 44, which is what I had to opt for but these would be too big for you. My foot length is 28. Given your measurements, I would have thought the 42 would work.
@@RichHayterSkater They are selling 43 in India. @Michał Sz. I also have 26.5cm foot size and I have same questions as you. Not sure if 42 will be ok or 43. If you have made a purchase, do let me know how was the fitting. (I have an alpinestars Toucan riding boot size 43 and it fits great, not sure about skates though, I am a noob)
The only thing i worry about is the heaviness...i tried them on in the store and they were something 😅 I'm a lightweight myself. I really want to learn skating & after research I found these to be the best pair in my budget. should i go for them, will i get used to the heaviness?
Is it true that al parts for the Oxelo MF500 and MF900 will be available soon? Would be great if the wheels, liner etc could be ordered. For someone on a budget I think these skates are great!
Yes, this is what Oxelo told me. I think you can already get the wheels from Decathlon, not sure about everything else yet but I’ve been told there are big things happening in September.
@RichHayterSkater How did you got in contact with Oxelo? Still the liners and wheels for these skates aren't available! 3 years later and Oxelo hasn't come out with a new model.
Thank you for the review. I was wondering on your input with the sizing. The site states skates run small so to order a size up. Did you order a size up? Besides the ankle pain does your foot fit snug?
How is the MF500 compared to the fit 500? It's only a few dollar difference but curious to know which out of the two you'd recommend or any other in the same price range.
I’ve never tried the Fit500 so I can’t comment. It’s a fitness skate and probably not as supportive or as versatile but likely more comfortable. It really amounts to what you’re looking for in a skate.
I think they’d be absolutely fine for your needs and very comfortable I imagine. I’m not sure they’d be upgradable like the MF500 though, in terms of options for mounting new frames for larger wheels, etc.
Hello mate ! I really appreciate your videos about the mf500 and of course the one about the ankle pain solution. I was wandering also if you can make maybe now a video with all the best upgrades you would think make a real difference for the mf500? Maybe a liner or bearings or wheels frame, wheels. Also maybe some aesthetic parts? Have a gerat day and please continue to make videos, ill watch em all hahaha (and suscribe). Sorry for my rusty english, cheers from Chile !
Hey thanks, that’s a good idea for a video. I’ve since upgraded bearings, liner and I’ve added my Rockin’ Frames. These are very versatile skates indeed!
Sir i have a question..im a begginer & i want buy it one in online stores, so the difficult is.. it good for me buy exactly fit with my shoes size or mybe 1 size bigger then usual my shoes size???
@@RichHayterSkater tq brother much appreciate....i already bought it on online decathlon website & i took 1 size bigger as ur advice hehe...fans from Malaysia. 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
Thank you, I've been looking at getting a pair of inlines for about 30 years (im not kidding)...I found the Oxelo MF500 (what does the MF stand for - mofo? 😂) and was drawn to them. I was then looking for reviews and yours popped up. Really valuable and insightful to see and hear all the positive thoughts from an obviously experienced and skilled skater. Thank you (again!) ... Wish me luck 🙏🏼🤞🏼
Congratulations! If you stay the course, it will change your life! Skating takes patience and commitment, so please take your time and expect there to be a learning curve. There will times when you will want to quit, but I can promise you, if you stay consistent and learn the basics, you will not regret it! Good luck! Let me know how you get on! 👍
Your review (content and style) is one of the best ones (if not The Best) I've seen. Thank you for this! It's a good push for beginners or ones who are getting back into inline skating after years of not. ;)
Looking forward to more extensive reviews from you.
PS. Do tell Oxelo their feedback is absolutely appreciated. Can't believe how open they are!
Thanks, I really appreciate your feedback! 🙏
I wasn't sure if Oxelo would be interested in commenting, but I'm really pleased they did!
Same I'm starting back too
After 18 years without touching a pair of skates I took the fam to decathlon and we all bought a pair of these. Honestly I'm very impressed at how good they are for the price. Cheaper skates have come a long way over these two or so decades.
And about the weight, yeah they're heavier... But that means my legs will get stronger haha!
These are great training skates, and when feel like upgrading, your feet will feel light and free! 😁
That’s great to hear you and your family are getting (back) into skating!
Congrats to you! I’m glad you’re enjoying your new skates and are now an established skater! Well done for sticking with it! It only gets better! 👊😁
Just ordered a pair of these today. My first set of skates and at 50 yrs of age, I am enjoying my newfound hobby, skating with my daughter.
Great review. Looking forward to breaking them in.
Enjoy your new skates, hobby, and hours of fun times with your daughter! Take your time and enjoy the journey! 👍
That's encouraging too... I'm 46, and just about to get started. Hopefully you're still enjoying your boots✌🏼
Thanks Dude!
I did try it myself on these hoping to have some success but it didn’t help. I’ll defo find a solution to this.
Not all plastic is heat moldable, you might just crack the boot trying
the oxelo feedback was so cool to hear!! thanks so much for getting those answers, very interesting
Thanks! I’m glad they took time to respond. 😁
Stick with it! It only gets better! 👍
Thanks!
Superb! 👍
such a good review, rly good idea to do it after 9 months of use, also i like that youre not talking bad about features that could be better (like the straps which do their job fine), or the fact that the bearings have some resistance and could even be beneficial to a beginner, i think this approach to reviews is very important, great video again
Thanks for your comment! 🙏
I wanted it to be authentic, and I also kept the cost in mind, which is a key part of it.
I’m glad the videos have helped you decide on the MF500; hope you enjoy them when they arrive!👌
Awesome! I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! 😁
The Oxelo MF500 are something really unique where the price and the quallity are extremely close to where you want them.
Let me begin to tell my pros and cons,
Pros: the price, it is a hard shell,
the frame is solid,
the skates grips around your feet,
And i my self do not experience any ankle pain.
Cons: the wheels do tare down fast,
the ankle straps do easilly ware down but with replacements coming in the near future this shouldn’t be a problem.
You brought me to this skates and to that new hobby, because i want to loose a bit of weight… and 4 fitness…
Thx…greeds from Germany
Awesome! Enjoy! 😁
Glad it helped you decide. Feels like a lot of effort had gone into them, and for the price I don’t think you can go wrong. 😁
Glad it helped! Enjoy your MF500s! 👍
@@RichHayterSkater Thanks i did an hour ago!😁
Hey! Where do you skate in india?
My daughter has asked for skates for her 13th Birthday in a couple of weeks, I skated as a kid but now at 41 I'm somewhat reluctantly going to give it another go so she'll have someone to skate with. After hours of researching much more expensive skates I've just ordered a pair of these based off of your extensive review. I figured if this guy has used these so much that they now look like my old hockey skates, they must be a decent pair especially for the price. Thank you.
Oh, and I subbed so you're officially my first 'Skating RUclipsr' Sub.
That’s all great to hear!! 😁
Everything in this review are my genuine beliefs about these skates; I always recommend them, especially to new skaters, because of the price and the fun I’ve had on them personally.
So excited! Thank you, I’m glad you’re enjoying the content and I hope it helps! 🙏
Scotland can be harsh at times, but I feel it’s challenged me to be a better skater.

Enjoy! :)
I am just a newbie, your vlog really help me to choose budget entry level boots, thanks.
I’m glad this helped you. These are still great skates! 👍
Fantastic review! Really wish all reviews were in this style, honest and real. Seems like the perfect beginner skate and I bet upgrading the liners would make a big difference. Probably cost more than the skates tho
Thanks for your feedback! 🙏
I always recommend this skate to people now.
@@RichHayterSkater would you still recommend this skate ? I’m also debating a tri skate but they are £££
100% Yes! 👍
You get used to it pretty quick!

@@RichHayterSkater currently really do! Its much more movable for tricks than the decathlon kids version (my 1 month previous purchase)
I've just bought a pair of these and I can't wait to try them out. I've been looking to buy a pair for years now, as i used to have some as a kid and loved them. I hope i can get even half as good as tou at skating, they don't seem that much slower than a pushbike.
Yeas! Then 2024 is already off to a great start for you! 🙌😁
Yes, I hope that you had returned them
My daughter wanted me to get a pair of skates to go out a wee skate with her, your review has made me choose these ones, thanks dude✌😊👍
Hope you guys have a blast! 😁
Thank you, I may also soon buy Oxelo MF500. Greetings from Russia :D
Buy them! Start skating! Greetings from Scotland! 🏴☀️
Great video! Thank you for posting it. I just bought today from Decathlon a pair of MF500 for the equivalent of 50pounds, as they were on sale.
Awesome! Enjoy! 👍
I like that in the description you put your boot size and mondopoint, would suggest including width as well. Great video review. I'll be getting my first skates in over 20 years this weekend, pretty excited.
Yeah! Get out there and enjoy it! 👍
I loved that review.
Thanks for all buddy +
Greetings and support from France

Thank you! 👍
This is always good to hear!
I really like the look of the grey/yellow version! 👍
Thanks! 🙏
You can’t go wrong with an FR skate, tbh. I’d also be very keen to try the MF900 myself! 😁
they really do work well! i'm considering getting these on summer.
Don’t wait until summer, they’ll be sold out! Get them now and you’ll be playing all summer! ☀️😁
Thanks this is actually really useful info’ 👍
@@RichHayterSkater I keep experimenting with the thickness and positioning of the foam inserts but can not stop the pain. It is manageable for an hour but then it is too much and I have to stop the session.
Really good review -v thorough and detailed -thanks
Many thanks for that video and time dedicated to the review to the MF500, because I'm thinking to buy a new MF900 but that's another story. 🧐 Greetings from Panama ✋
Greetings to you too! 👊
I’m glad you liked it!
Yes, the MF900 looks good, I wouldn’t mind a spin on it myself! 😁
Amazing video. I just bought a pair of Rollerblade 80s, but I would also want a second pair for several reasons (especially hard boot) and this is definitely what I was looking for. Thanks a lot and congrats!
Thank you! Glad it helped you. 👍
Gracias.
Thanks! And I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying your MF500s and are making progress!
Happy rolling! 😁
Like everything else good and cheap it's always sold out
Yeah, the RB boot seems to be a solid choice.
@@RichHayterSkater Thanks! That's motivating :)
Best review ever! Hello from Brazil!
Thanks! I hope it helps! 🙏😁
What a fantastic review 👏 Thank you! Helped a lot!
👍
Great review @Rich Hayter Skater, thanks a ton for the details! Your feedback along with comments all over the webz helped to make the call.
Been hunting them for 2 weeks until they stocked the sizes I was looking for, interesting enough they seem to stock a few units of different sizes once every 2 days or so.
As for the size, both pairs for 2 people ended up being perfect with half size up from regular shoes (43.5), 27.6cm of feet length, 43 didn't fit well, 44 was perfect fit (EU sizes).
Glad it helped! Enjoy your knee skates! 👍
I have a pair of MF 500 too and I am happy with it
👍
The frame is so good~ I'm thinking of replacing it too~
Now using the Rockin' MIX4 100/90! Works well!
Yeah, sadly it’s a bit of an issue with these liners. Thicker socks can help, but padded ankle guards are the way to go! 👍
Thanks Rich, I'll buy another pair of these next week!
Enjoy! 👍
love your review, im getting them...
Cool! You’re gonna love ’em! 👍
Top-notch review, man. 👍
Thank you! 🙏
Great video. I hope you will test more products in the future.
Thanks! I plan to. 🙏
@@RichHayterSkater which liner did you switch to ? I have the same problem
Btw thanks for the video!
It was just an old set of liners from my Seba FR1s. They’re like a decade old, but work great!👌
Thanks! I'll try to find something like that then :)
I'll take part in the 24h roller in Le Mans this summer and, eventhough I plan to do it in a different set of skates, I'd like to have this boot as a backup
@@adrien_404 Anyway, I've added some extra piece of polifoam (7-8cm) over my ankle and it works, no ankle pain with them!
Come from decathlon Malaysia review site. Unfortunately it is limited stock in my area. Maybe gonna grab 1 pair for cardio thanks for the review Rich!
👍
Eine der besten Reviews! ♥️
🙏😁
Im amazed at tge lifespan of those wheels. Awesome
Me too! 😁
I can't open my buckle under the higher strap, I got it like that. But nowhere I can't find anything how to open them or if it's just a factory error
Press down on the 2 plastic levers either side of the silver ratchet lever. This will release the strap.
You can find similar sets on Amazon.
awesome review!
Thank you! 🙏
It’s true, you’d usually pay much more for these qualities in a skate. I’m sure the FR1s will work out for you. 👍
Thanks! 🙏
The bearings standard and are interchangeable with any other skate bearing. I swapped mine out for some Seba bearings. You should be able to find some on eBay.
thank you Rich , well done
🙏😁
nice review dude, i got these as my first skate too lol.
Sounds like a varied setup, nice! 👌
I’m still working on a solution for the discomfort.
Thank you for the great video and the valuable information you provided. As a beginner, I wasn't sure how to start, but your video caught my attention and helped me to make a decision. Your honest opinion was really helpful, and I appreciate the time and effort you put into creating the video. I tried to use your Amazon affiliated link in the description to show my support for your work, but it's no longer available. I'll look for other links in your more recent videos and consider subscribing to your channel as well. I'll be purchasing this product within the next days. If you happen to have an affiliated link for that too, I'll be glad to use it. Thanks!
Enjoy!
@@RichHayterSkater Thank you so much! All the best!
Great review!!!! Thanks
👍
Will Ferell great review thx 😅
Thank you!
Very good & honest review 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks! 🙏
Have bought two pairs of this skates for me and my wife. little bit disappointed in build quality. 45 degree strap almost die after one week of skating on all boots :(
That’s really disappointing. I’ve had my first pair of MF500s for like 3 years, and have really abused them, and they’re still solid.
@@RichHayterSkater May be you have some "special edition" or may be they were different 3 years ago because some other reviewers said that the plastic is really soft on buckle
Oxalo MF500 is good on interlock pavement?
How is it on smooth surface cement floor and on asphalt road?
I am thinking of buying it. Pls reply
Yes, yes, and Yes!
These skates have never failed me on any surface. Don’t hesitate, get yourself and pair and go skate! 👍😁
Great to get a ratchet buckle mid strap at that price, most budget skates have velcro mid straps. Also the aluminium sole plates to accommodate a good choice of frames, sounds awesome for the money. This and the Micro MT plus looks like great budget skates. And of course the FRX 80.
Yeah, I totally agree. Just feels like a good package for the money; that and the fact that they’re genuinely a ton of fun! 😁
Completely agree. 👍
Nice. Have you tried skate socks (I recommend the rollerblade perfomance socks) to fix the ankle pain? Could be a friction problem.
Thanks, yeah I’m experimenting with some ankle protectors at the moment. I’ve had some success by adding some padding around the ankle, but nothing consistent yet. Still working on it! 👍
@@RichHayterSkater Another thing you could potentially try is switching the liner. E.g. the PS MyFit liners can be heat molded.
Yeah, I do plan on switching out the liner on these purely to test the theory, but my aim is to find a cost-free solution to this.
@@RichHayterSkater Although they say it's not heat moldable, I have heard of people using heat guns to treat all sorts of hard frame skates. In case you have access to a heat gun, this might be worth a try as well.
I actually threw them in the oven and bent out some of the plastic but it didn’t fix the issue. I’m pretty convinced it’s the liner.
Great upload ,my friend!!!! thanks for sharing!!! greetings from Germany ✌️
Thank you! 🙏
I have one of these and I didnt had any ankle discomfort for 3 h session, so I guess it is up to the body and how hard you tie them
Absolutely! 👍
I have this and got pain too, especially at the bone on the inner part
This is exactly where I get it. I’m still working on a fix!
Bro i just bougth New pairs of these but these skates Are very bad in slighly bumpy roads is there way to fix it
Yes, there are 2 things you can do…1. Don’t skate on bumpy roads, 2. My preferred option, get better at skating bumpy roads.
The reality is, most skates would feel the same on this type of road, and you’re probably just not used to this. You just need to practice rolling this type of surface.
I made a video about this a while back. 👇

Hello mate was just wondering if you can change the bearings for some faster rolling ones finding that I need to work harder to keep the speed cheers
Yes, the bearings can be swapped out for anything you like. I stuck some Seba twincams in mine! 👌
Thanks for the reply mate have you found them a lot faster since the change over
Yeah, they defo roll quicker with better bearings. The abec 7s they come with are useable, and I imagine they’d be good for beginners due to their additional rolling resistance, but they’re defo not great.
@@RichHayterSkater thanks again mate for your reply I will get looking for some new bearings 👍🏻
Rollerblade twincam abec 7 plus bearings are good.
hi. i see you wearing size 44. may i know how is the size fitting of this skate compared to nike or adidas sport shoes?
I’d say it’s pretty much the same. I’d order the same size of shoe. I had to order a size up because they don’t do them in a UK9.
When is the next oxelo model going to be launched? Please ask.
I'm really not sure, will see what I can find out.
@@RichHayterSkater I am starting to learn on quad skates. Inline will be my next stage. Approx launch date (Year, quarter) will help me to decide if I
should wait for the next or go for the MF500 now.
@@RichHayterSkater thank you very much. After such a recommendation I believe I cannot go wrong with these skates.
Thanks a lot. If I normally wear no 43 should I buy a 43 or 44 ?
I would go with 44. This is what I did.
@@RichHayterSkater thanks a lot. I was on the point of buying the wrong fit. ♥️
Even better if you can try them at a Decathlon store. 👍
@@RichHayterSkater it was a pair of used mf500
One of my concern is because the colour is white. It easily dirty, do you have any idea how to clean it?
It’s really not and issue. The boots are plastic and clean up just fine! 👌
The only thing i worry about is the heaviness...i tried them on in the store and they were something 😅 I'm a lightweight myself. I really want to learn skating & after research I found these to be the best pair in my budget. should i go for them, will i get used to the heaviness?
My first impressions of these is that they were on the heavier side, but I got used to this very quickly. Would I go for them…? Oh Yeah! 😁👍
@@RichHayterSkater Now I am getting really curious about what's coming in September!! Next week I will receive my MF500 skates! Can't wait!
Me too! 😁
The closest size for me was a half size up, and these fit very well. My foot fits nicely into these. 👍
@RichHayterSkater Благодарю Вас за такой обзор, заказал себе mf500, должны приехать через пару дней, и буду начинать учиться! Ещё раз спасибо!
Enjoy! 👍
@@RichHayterSkater Don't think i'll be doing any tricks. Looking for more of cruiser and would like to go fast.
Got any tips for sizing on these skates? I wear a us11.5 street shoe.
I’d probably stick to my regular size or perhaps a half size up.
Sir i have a question..im a begginer & i want buy it one in online stores, so the difficult is.. it good for me buy exactly fit with my shoes size or mybe 1 size bigger then usual my shoes size???
I’d recommend at least a half size bigger than your normal shoe size. If you can’t get a half size then go 1 full size bigger. 👍
