Steven Wright is one of a kind! A joke I recall from some time ago:
There's a switch on the wall in my apartment that doesn't do anything. Every time I walk by, I flip it. Yesterday I got a call from a woman in Germany. She said "knock it off."

Steven Wright's lethargic, monotone delivery is part of the reason why his comedy is so good. His humor is not unlike a stand-up version of Gary Larson's "The Far Side" comic.

Steven Alexander Wright (born December 6, 1955) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and film producer. He is known for his distinctive lethargic voice and slow, deadpan delivery of ironic, philosophical and sometimes nonsensical jokes, paraprosdokians, non sequiturs, anti-humor, and one-liners with contrived situations.
Wright was ranked as the 15th Greatest Comedian by Rolling Stone in its 2017 list of the 50 Greatest Stand-up Comics

You are right about him having to have Rolodexes full of jokes. He didn’t record much probably so he didn’t have to burn through his material. He released the album, “I Have A Pony” in 1984 and didn’t record again until 2007’s “I Still Have A Pony.”
