I felt so bad for him, because he was so funny and just was worried he wasn’t and wouldn’t get applause or laughter. My nephew was lucky enough to see him in person, and he said it was one of the best shows he had ever been to.
Mitch suffered from severe stage fright. It's no act. That's also why he often wore sunglasses on stage. They made it more difficult for him to see the audience members.
This was hilarious. And reading the comments below is blowing my mind. I now understand why he always looked nervous - bc he was! That is THEE definition of bravery, right there!! Being afraid to do something, but doing it anyway. But then his death shows that he really struggled in his life. RIP Mitch. You were a brave man - and a funny one too!!🙏
Hedberg is my all-time favorite comic. There may be others who are technically better, but the combination of Mitch's delivery and his demeanor make him one of a kind! R.I.P. Mitchell Lee Hedberg
He was a great talent and a tragic loss. Doug Stanhope talks about him in one of his specials. I recommend watching everything you can find of his at least once.
I started doing stand up comedy in 1982 because of Steven Wright and Mitch Hedberg. They were just hilarious to me. I've studied comedy since I was little, but never tried it until Steven Wright came out. I threw in some impressions as well. One of my bits was "The Mitch Hedberg School of Comedy." I would take topic suggestions from the audience and just start talking like Mitch on that subject. Virtually no matter what stupid thing I said, it was hilarious in his voice. I've seen video of him doing standup when he first started and he didn't have the same delivery, though many of his jokes were the same. He just wasn't as funny with a different delivery. In comedy we say there are four levels of comedians. Level one is water cooler comedian: one who can make his/her friends laugh. Level 2 is open mic comedian: one who can make a room full of strangers laugh occasionally. Level 3 is working comedian: one who can make a room full of strangers laugh consistently enough to get paid to do it. Level 4 is legend comedian: one whose material cannot be performed to its maximum effect without doing an impression of that comedian. Mitch Hedberg and Steven Wright fall into that last category. I found out early in my comedy career that you have to play with your wording and delivery and develop your own "voice" for comedy in order to be successful. You also have to define your own idea of success. I never wanted to be famous. My version of success was to get paid to do what I love to do, which is music, comedy and magic. I'm still performing at the age of 69 and very happy.
R.I.P. Mitch. Taken far too soon. He was hilarious! Mitch had horrible stage fright, which is why he almost always had sunglasses on, or kept his eyes closed. He acted in a few things as well, such as Lords of Dogtown, ALMOST FAMOUS, and had a role on That 70's Show. He unfortunately passed from a heroin overdose.
Mitch died on March 30, 2005, but it wasn't reported until the next day. Since the news moved slower in 2005, most people didnt find out until April Fools Day, and people werent sure if he was really dead.
One of the greatest at non sequitur & semantics-driven comedy. Steven Wright, Doug Stanhope, and perhaps even Andy Kaufman. Great content & information. I hope that You, Your's & Your Family had a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year. Best Regards, ~Stephen Vancouver BC 🇨🇦
In real estate terms in the US, you can't call a room a bedroom unless it has a closet. Otherwise it's a den or study. Of course a den can have closet too and be listed as a bedroom or a den.
You really need to watch Sebastian Maniscalco doing his routine about unexpected company, the vid is simply called “Doorbell” and to me at 62 it is such a classic! Of course now everyone has ring cameras but he takes us back to the days before they were invented ha. And his physical comedy makes it so much funnier! You’ll love it!
My favorite Mitch joke and there are so many great ones, but the one that sticks with me. "I haven't slept for ten days because that would be too long..." He has other videos on YT, just a simple search will find them, they're all good. I used to have some of his CD's...
There's a great video on YT called "Mitch Hedberg: Battling Stage Fright as a Stand Up Comedian (Video Essay)" from Brickwall Pictures. A loving, compassionate, and insightful look into Mitch's sadly short career. The narrator states "A profile on one of my favorite stand up comedians, Mitch Hedberg, and his struggle with stage fright and drug use." Definitely worth a watch.
Wasn't a stage act, Mitch had HORRIBLE stage fright. Though it did make him more memorable. He wore the sunglasses or closed his eyes sometimes when telling a joke cause he was dealing with his stage fright. Mitch was still one the greatest, even with that condition.
I watch all your reactions, every one and you're all right. If you want to take it (your comedy trek) to the next level, try some Doug Stanhope stand up. He's really raw and obscene but throughout that he is laugh out loud funny and he makes you think. Cheers from canada.
@@setonhillstudios Thanks for the quick reply. There are not a lot of Stanfield's stand up reactions. You'll definitely have to see him for a bit before... He's not shy.
You will notice Mitch looking down a lot, in his early work hismareial is on the floor or somewherehe can see for his reference, that and the stage fright
Mitch was a really funny person but Unfortunately he was dealing with severe depression and he was not able to get control of it and he ended up committing suicide.
Mitch was strung out on heroin... he felt like he didn't fit in.. it's a sad story but look at the great ones.. all the same.. Robin Williams, John belushy..
Yeah it’s something I’ve said for years so that’s never gonna happen. 😂 If I were you I’d probably not watch to avoid yourself frustration. Have a great one! 😁

He is without a doubt the most underrated comedian ever. Sometimes you had to think about his jokes. But when you got it he was hilarious.

Stagefright but sadly also a drug problem
Yea!!!! Love Mitch Hedberg!! Bless your heart sweet man. RIP Never forgotten 🙏 ❤

Mitch was a king
YES!!! Finally some Mitch!
Hedberg is my all-time favorite comic. There may be others who are technically better, but the combination of Mitch's delivery and his demeanor make him one of a kind! R.I.P. Mitchell Lee Hedberg
One of my favorite one-liners from Mitch was when he said, "I used to do drugs... I still do, but I used to, too."
Haha 😂
Oooh….. Mitch!
This guy had the best one liners I’ve ever heard! I’m not calling him the best, but I loved the heck out of him!
He was a great talent and a tragic loss. Doug Stanhope talks about him in one of his specials. I recommend watching everything you can find of his at least once.
Ohhhh i love Mitch so much! I think about his bit on ppl missing at a restaurant every time I go out to eat! It's gold 💚
I’ll have to look for this one! Thanks! 🤣
That’s my fave routine of his, the Dufreynes ha!
@SharilynBratton ...YES!! party of 2, search party of 2...go and find the Dufreynes 🤣😉
The compilation doesn't show how Mitch's timing and flow into the next joke is specials are better than compilations
Bob Nelson is a must!

I also love his joke about Bigfoot ha!
So glad your doing Mitch! Thank you!

I think most of them are.
So tragic! 😞

Gotcha!! Thanks! 😁
I needed a good laugh today, so thank you!🤣🤣🤣Hedberg was hilarious! (RIP) I also hate turtlenecks, so that's one of my favourite jokes. 😉
🤣😂🤣

You should try watching Jo Koy's comedy bit about Puberty. He's hilarious.
@@RonWeb7804 Never heard of him but someone else suggested him too! Thanks! 😁
Try some Bill Hicks comedy. Another brilliant comedian.
Awesome reaction 👏🏼👍🏼😎
Gut bustin funny 🤣😂🤣
I'm really digging the comedy 🎯💯
Keep up the good work 💪🏼👍🏼👌🏼
🇺🇸🫡🙏🏽❤️✌🏽🔥
Thanks so much! Having a blast with it myself! 🤣
Nice, the next obvious one-liner would be Stewart Francis live at the Apollo season 6.
Give Emo Philips a try. His delivery is... strange. But his jokes are a similar style to Wright and Hedberg.

i’m no expert, but I do believe that a room must have a closet and a separate exit in case of fire in order to be legally defined as a bedroom.
Figured when you looked into Steven Wright, Mitch would follow soon upon.
Wasn't a stage act, Mitch had HORRIBLE stage fright. Though it did make him more memorable. He wore the sunglasses or closed his eyes sometimes when telling a joke cause he was dealing with his stage fright. Mitch was still one the greatest, even with that condition.
Real estate term a bedroom must have a closet
Bedrooms have closets
I used to use his rice joke with my customers when I was serving Chinese food, giving due credit, of course.
🤣😂🤣

Mitch used a politically incorrect term, so immediately, Brad Williams came to mind as someone you might enjoy
You should also try and check out Leann Morgan
You will notice Mitch looking down a lot, in his early work hismareial is on the floor or somewherehe can see for his reference, that and the stage fright
A bedroom must have a closet
Gotcha…It seems like people could just build a tiny closet in every room and sell it as a 7 bedroom house! 🤣
You'd probably like Rodney Carrington.
I’ll have to look into him! Thanks! 😁
Obligated shameless Henry cho plug.
