    This video is a basic intro into understanding NVGs and all the supporting equipment focusing on the PVS14. This topic is full of opinions so please share your experience and what you recommend. Cheers

    My use of night vision is with airsoft in Canada. I had a lot of teammates who had dual tubes and I got convinced to invest in a device myself. I put away a little bit of each paycheck for months to save up for it and got a basic pvs-14 green phos. Having used the single tube for over a year and had the chance to use some of my friends' dual setups I can say that saving some money and sticking with the mono can be a great idea if you're okay with the limitations. Some people's brains just can't handle the lack of depth perception with the monos and they get bad headaches, I'm lucky in that I've never had that happen. Yes, you definitely have a less intuitive sense of space and movement in CQB with a mono, but your field of view is the same and you have one of your eyes keeping it's natural vision which can be good for admin purposes, for getting a better idea of ambient light levels, and for discerning whether a light is IR or not (very useful in force on force). I'm now selling my tube to upgrade to one with better SNR and gain capabilities as we play often in dark woods and don't use supplemental light very often (again, because airsoft is force on force and the enemy team always also has NODs). But starting out here in Canada you can get a solid milspec PVS14 for less than $3000 from retailers now. The new big thing that is make or breaking how effective our team is are thermal devices though. God this is an expensive hobby haha

      My experience has been much of the same with my own GP PvS14 although I won’t be upgrading any time soon. Playing against other guys with nods is so fun!

    Great video as always, I’d love to see a guide on how to find location for an OP, Build the OP, live in it and leave. Maybe for the Fieldcraft series?

    A decent single-tube setup is the way to go for most dudes, it's like a superpower you can buy for $4000. Dual-tube gets you like 15% more than that... for 100% more money. If you've no clue how to sneak around in the dark and max your bare-eye ability without NV, NV won't help you much. Good video, EM.

    For Pvs14 units, the Norotos hyper mount is the way to go for single tube use. Allows articulation one typically only get from dual tube units and allows the unit to be stowed close, right up against your helmet, greatly reducing neck strain as the helmet becomes better balanced. So glad I was keyed into this before I bought a Wilcox. Do yourself a favor and look into this mount before buying. It it the superior single tube mount.
    Also passive aiming with dual tubes doesn't require you to lift a tube out of the way. It's the same as if with a mono. I'm not sure what made you say that. What sort of setup are you running and what is causing you to do that?

    I was actually going to grab that Tracer skull crusher this week for in my backpack. Just a thought but im pretty sure that a piece of tegris, some adhesive Velcro and a little Microbat counterweight kit would fix that problem. You are already in it for 200$, might as well spend the other 60$
    Tegris is at WTF Idea, get the 6 layer sheet for 10$ ✌️

    17:43, it's really weird hearing that GWOT era equipment is outdated. I'm getting old

      To be fair some GWOT stuff is sometimes better than a few modern stuff out there, also it was the stepping stone to teach us what works and what doesn't.

    Outstanding video. I just purchased a Gen 3 PVS14 and a full power PEQ15. Question… Are you aware of whether it is possible or not to convert a green phosphorus tube into a white phosphorus tube?

    • @RhodeIslandAboriginal
      @RhodeIslandAboriginal Месяц назад

      @chadgriffith-e3y white phos filters are cool, otherwise you'd probably have to swap out the entire tube

    Still kicking around plans for getting my rifle set up for NV. I've got the PVS-14 but the options for supporting kit for civilians kinda sucks. Get a grey market PEQ with no warranty, an overpriced castrated civilian IR module at half power, or full power affordable Chinese model of questionable quality. I don't really love any of the options.
    Right now I'm leaning towards piggyback mount an RMR on my LVPO and just finding an affordable illuminator.
