I'm trying to keep up with headphones and earbuds right now, amongst other content, so I'm trying different workflows and formats to see how I can streamline videos and make more of them so I can expand. Believe it or not, this video is a different format than in the past, and if it seems to do well, I think I'll be able to increase output a little bit more. We'll see :)

For sure, focus on the products that most people are interested in, that comparison of transparency modes was mind-blowing, would love that for spatialization/virtual surround modes as well!
I recently purchased the Sony ULT Wear and I love it! No I am not someone who wants a ton of bass but I discovered with these headphones I can get the right amount of bass for me! I don't use the ULT button. Sony's sound signature is one of my favorites. At the time of posting this in Canada the Sony ULT is on sale for $200 and the XM5 is on sale for $400. I feel the sound on the ULT is close enough that I don't want to pay an extra $200 for it! Some of the headphones I tested were either not loud enough or some what muddy in sound and the bass was barely there! I do recommend trying them for yourself in a store and any other headphones you are interested in. It's important to find the sound quality and comfort on your head that's right for you!

The ANC test sounded like ULT is performing better in this area. Is that your subjective experience of using them? I really only care about noise cancelling performance and was about to buy the xm4s, but now I’m wondering if these are actually superior for noise cancelling. How would you rank xm5, xm4 and ULT purely in terms of noise cancelling?
@@smdjuhurr9474 Yeah, I ended up buying XM4, I ended up having to swap them for the ULTs because one of my ears sticks out too much and I was getting pain, but I definitely felt like the XM4s noise cancelling was superior. I was really bummed out to have to return them. ULTs aren’t bad though.

I was about to get the WH-1000XM5s after watching several of your review/comparisons when I saw that Bose had a new over ear headphone out. I'm going to wait for your review of them before I decide which to purchase. Your reviews are the most comprehensive and generally closer to my ear than others. I'm a Bose user, I can say Bose sound tuning is leaning towards relaxing neutral sound, detailed. meanwhile Sony's tuning is more bassy, like EDM song feels better on Sony. both are well-built imo, my Bose QC35ii is 5 years old and still kicking, my friend's XM3 is also the same and still alright.
I got the quiet comfort the best sound cancellation and fit you can actually work out with it but it just too small for my ears. Surprisingly my favorite so far is the Beats Studio pro
Music producer here, got a pair. Just lift everything north of the 2K slider between 2 and 3 db and it's decently balanced. The bass is honestly pretty fun, sometimes I just wanna press a button and destroy the song I'm listening to. Of course I'd never mix out of them, I've got studio headphones and speakers for that. But like, I got 'em for $150 on sale, AnC is great, sound quality is great, just EQ to taste, set, and forget. I like 'em.

Funny enough, you've confirmed the the Ults are for me and I would have hated the higher end XM5. I listen to Riddim, Dubstep, Industrial, and Electronic music... SICK! Not to mention I'll be able to make music on these things. Probably the best review I've seen for these headphones. Helped a lot.
@@keithpalacios9417Yes! I did, and they are the best headphones I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a lot. The bass is soooo amazing, and my brain is thoroughly blown with how clean the bass was. I did end up making my own eq in the app that basically handled sound through a multigenre playlist. Mic is definitely the least beastly thing about it. I have autism too, so it’s been a peace of mind with how good the anc works. It’s almost bizarre. Also love the pass through. Highly recommend.
I just bought a set, something tell I'm gonna love the ult my music is the older Gospel and 1950s Doo Wopp some head phones I can't hear the B3 kicking in or the bass singers in other headphones I know these are for me.
I try to make videos for the masses, so I'm not one to measure frequency ranges. I'm also a mixing audio engineer, not an audiophile. My interest in frequency graphs are low compared to simply using my ears. There will be plenty of other great creators that will focus on that.
Got an ad for these headphones while using the xm5 Sony app so was curious to learn more. This was great thanks. I like you found them to be not for me
The better question is whether Sony is addressing the XM5's issues with comfort and sound. The sound felt unbalanced for me. It didn't satisfy me. Also, it hurts me to wear them very quickly on my head. This is why I switched to the Momentum 4 but the Momentum 4 is relatively heavy and I need to use an adapter to get aptX Adaptive on all devices. LDAC has a wider spread. And wait a second, Sony released the XM5 last year. The XM4 launched 2020, the XM3 was released in 2018. Why do you assume a release of the XM6 this year?
@ThisIsTechToday I'm still acknowledging the XM4's, bought them and felt like a week later the XM5's where announced and two weeks later people are asking for the XM6!! 😂
I had the ULT for like 5 months and they broke out of nowhere. I never used them for running or some outside activity, kept them in their case all the time and the broke really easily when I was trying to get them off me. Later I saw many guys that are complaining about them and this is quite an issue with the ULT model. But anyway really nice review and comparison!
I have both of them now (the XM4s and the ULTs). I'm returning the ULTs, as I didn't see much difference in the bass. The XM4s look way sleeker and sound really good (in my opinion).
@@aronvargas4864 To be honest, I haven't used them yet. They sounded loud when I tested them in my house (but then again, the house was quiet at the time). I will let you know if they are loud once I test them at the gym.
I own the xm5’s.. I find them muddy and bland. Noise canceling is top notch. It’s really disappointing since I’ve owned xm3 earbuds for years and they’ve been perfect save some connectivity problems with my iPhone. Great video. I hope to find the ULTs on demo somewhere.
I was gifted the ULTs for my birthday as I had hinted I wanted a new pair of headphones as my Beyerdynamic's were getting sad being 40 years old. As an audiophile and AES member I expected a nice pair with a flat response like my Spendor BC1's. Imagine my surprise getting these ULT's. The bass is ridiculous in ULT1 and ULT2. With ULT off it still has a lot of bass boost which can be adjusted from the app. It came with 10dB bass boost out the box! Even with a flat response set in the app the bass is all wrong. Perhaps these would suit Head Bangers?
They're decent with them off. I'm not sure if I'll spend time on the EQ for these. If there's enough demand, I might, but it takes me about a week or so to tweak and tune, and I'd rather make more reviews of all the other products coming out right now/that I have. We'll see!

Great review. TO me the ULT are better in every way except this horrible ultra grave option! Ult does deliver good enough grave from start and does not need any extra bass. To me a better value than XM5 and cheaper.
I went to the shop to test the ULT wear vs the XM4 because I'm hesitating between the 2 and if someone can share their experience that would be welcome but the conclusion I came to was: ULT WEAR: More confortable, more bassy even with ULT off which can really make you "merge in your own buble" specially when turning the Noise Cancelling on XM4: Feels more premium in quality overall, the sound is more "open"/"light" which makes you feel maybe less "overwhelmed" by the music and more "calm". I've always liked bassy, even in videogames (ik it's different but overall I've liked bassy headphones) yet here I'm still doubting which one to go for...
Great review. Quick question, when testing wind noise, do you use the slider in the sony connect app to put the noise cancelling into "wind noise reduction"? Because on default its on normal "noise cancelling"
Can I use these headphones while working out in the gym and do the earcups get damaged due to sweat? Or is it normal to get sweaty in the ear area while watching a movie or at home? Do you get sweaty after wearing it for a long time?

That transparency mode on the ULT is sounding really good for a pair of $200 headphones (Not Apple or Bose level, but still good). It actually sounded a bit better than the one on the XM5 to me. That being said, I think you should check out the Crusher ANC 2 to see how they compare to it.
First of all I want to say that I just found your channel now. Secondly I want to say THANK YOU so much for this review. It was Outstanding. Been looking for this review comparison between the ULT Wear and the WH-1000XM5. So currently I'm using the Plantronics BackBeat Pro headphones for quite sometime now. Been looking at upgrading to the ULT Wear. Here's the thing though. As much as I love Deep BASS, I must say from my reaction to the sound test performed, ULT Off sounds far better than ULT 1 and even 2. ULT 2 is literally in your face BASS while everything else of the track you're listening to falls away, including the vocals of the artist singing/rapping. As for the ANC, Tranparency and Mic Test, both headphones are crazy close in offering the same levels of each. In fact, it seems the ULT Wear came out better over the XM5 in some of the tests which is rather a surprise considering the price difference between the two. Thanks again for this great video. I went back to Bestbuy yesterday to sample the Sony XM4, XM5 , ALT, Momentum 4 and Accentum. All of them have a wider soundstage, but lacks the details that I used to hear when I had my few Grado headphones (SR225,325,PS500, Alessandro Grado, GS series) . I discover Marshall Monitor 3 ANC for a mixture of Grado sound signature combined with larger soundstage.
Both have some really great ANC, so if you're trying to find something with good ANC but at a cheaper price than the XM5 and that's what you care about the most, I'd say these are a good choice!
AirPods Pro 2. The sync is much better and way more seamless to move between devices. Hard to argue with ecosystem. The sound quality is solid but not the best out there.
Great review my guy. I’m a total bass head and a sony fanboy. Recently upgraded from the MDR-XB950B1 to the ULT wear. And honestly, I was disappointed from the LACK of bass. The 950B1 had wayyy more of a thump and that’s what I loved about it
In the voice transparency mode, can you increase the volume of mx5 to have louder voice? Can you activate this function all the time? Does mx5 has any function like/similar with live listen on apple products? Thanks

The ULT Wear reminds me of my MDR-XB950N1's with the Bass-Effect button, I loved those headphones but I soon after went ahead n got the WH-1000XM4's and haven't looked back since, was introduced to LDAC and haven't been the same since. Now recently picked up the WH-1000XM5's and I can confidently say they're a step up from the XM4's and really enjoy using them. Btw ULT1 is alright, still like that kinda rumble bass but ULT2 is ridiculous 😂 Sony shouldn't have added that!

I have the ULT, arriving in a few hours, I was a bit unsure as I was thinking maybe I should have still been saving for the m5, but as ANC, is my main reason, and audio a close second..I thought the ULT ANC was better, surprise to me ULT button at 1st position was great..#2 sucks. I purchased the XM4s last week and then saw this review, so decided to order the ULTs for the bass comparison. To be fair, I didn't hear hardly any difference. The ULTs fit my head better, but they looked much chunkier on my ears as the phones stuck out way more. I've decided to keep the XM4s and return the ULTs.

Thanks. No plans for a dedicated video, but once I get to a roundup 4 headphone comparison, I plan to include it. Bose QC Ultra, XM5, Momentum 4, and hopefully there's a new AirPods Max for the fourth spot. Just being patient and waiting. Unfortunately, focusing only on the Sennheiser doesn't have enough demand. The new earbuds video is showing that it's not as popular as I was hoping and I have to work through a lot of other videos first that people want and are more likely to succeed. It's hard running a business!

ULT uses the same tech as XM4 as the XM5 has newer tech. So you saying the XM5 and 4 sound the same is basically saying all 3 sound the same lmao

Yeah, there are definitely some trade offs between the two, so it's not clear cut outside of the sound.
Covering reviews about soundstage and imaging would be a very big plus point on your already awesome review.

I had the ULT for like 5 months and they broke out of nowhere. I never used them for running or some outside activity, kept them in their case all the time and the broke really easily when I was trying to get them off me. Later I saw many guys that are complaining about them and this is quite an issue with the ULT model. But anyway really nice review and comparison!

I have both of them now (the XM4s and the ULTs). I'm returning the ULTs, as I didn't see much difference in the bass. The XM4s look way sleeker and sound really good (in my opinion).

@@aronvargas4864 To be honest, I haven't used them yet. They sounded loud when I tested them in my house (but then again, the house was quiet at the time).
I will let you know if they are loud once I test them at the gym.

I own the xm5’s.. I find them muddy and bland. Noise canceling is top notch.
It’s really disappointing since I’ve owned xm3 earbuds for years and they’ve been perfect save some connectivity problems with my iPhone.

I was gifted the ULTs for my birthday as I had hinted I wanted a new pair of headphones as my Beyerdynamic's were getting sad being 40 years old. As an audiophile and AES member I expected a nice pair with a flat response like my Spendor BC1's. Imagine my surprise getting these ULT's. The bass is ridiculous in ULT1 and ULT2. With ULT off it still has a lot of bass boost which can be adjusted from the app. It came with 10dB bass boost out the box! Even with a flat response set in the app the bass is all wrong. Perhaps these would suit Head Bangers?
Yeah, they’re insane. lol. Too bassy even for head bangers!! I find these to be outrageous.

How durable are the hinges compared to the wh-1000xm4?

With ULT off, these sound decent. What I am waiting on are your EQ settings for these. Or is it too much bass even at ULT 1?
They're decent with them off. I'm not sure if I'll spend time on the EQ for these. If there's enough demand, I might, but it takes me about a week or so to tweak and tune, and I'd rather make more reviews of all the other products coming out right now/that I have.

Great review. TO me the ULT are better in every way except this horrible ultra grave option! Ult does deliver good enough grave from start and does not need any extra bass. To me a better value than XM5 and cheaper.

I went to the shop to test the ULT wear vs the XM4 because I'm hesitating between the 2 and if someone can share their experience that would be welcome but the conclusion I came to was:
ULT WEAR: More confortable, more bassy even with ULT off which can really make you "merge in your own buble" specially when turning the Noise Cancelling on
XM4: Feels more premium in quality overall, the sound is more "open"/"light" which makes you feel maybe less "overwhelmed" by the music and more "calm".
I've always liked bassy, even in videogames (ik it's different but overall I've liked bassy headphones) yet here I'm still doubting which one to go for...
Which headphones would you recommend under $200, I prefer instrument seperation and accurate sound more than bass.
And is HD 450 BT still a good pair?
Great review. Quick question, when testing wind noise, do you use the slider in the sony connect app to put the noise cancelling into "wind noise reduction"? Because on default its on normal "noise cancelling"
Can I use these headphones while working out in the gym and do the earcups get damaged due to sweat? Or is it normal to get sweaty in the ear area while watching a movie or at home? Do you get sweaty after wearing it for a long time?

Hello im planning to but the ult wear, i’m not the type of person that pays attention to sound details ( i mean Bass or not Bass Lol), what im looking for is a clean sound and a confortable headset ? Do you think that the ult wear is better for me ?

That transparency mode on the ULT is sounding really good for a pair of $200 headphones (Not Apple or Bose level, but still good). It actually sounded a bit better than the one on the XM5 to me.
That being said, I think you should check out the Crusher ANC 2 to see how they compare to it.

First of all I want to say that I just found your channel now. Secondly I want to say THANK YOU so much for this review. It was Outstanding. Been looking for this review comparison between the ULT Wear and the WH-1000XM5. So currently I'm using the Plantronics BackBeat Pro headphones for quite sometime now. Been looking at upgrading to the ULT Wear. Here's the thing though. As much as I love Deep BASS, I must say from my reaction to the sound test performed, ULT Off sounds far better than ULT 1 and even 2. ULT 2 is literally in your face BASS while everything else of the track you're listening to falls away, including the vocals of the artist singing/rapping. As for the ANC, Tranparency and Mic Test, both headphones are crazy close in offering the same levels of each. In fact, it seems the ULT Wear came out better over the XM5 in some of the tests which is rather a surprise considering the price difference between the two. Thanks again for this great video. I went back to Bestbuy yesterday to sample the Sony XM4, XM5 , ALT, Momentum 4 and Accentum.
All of them have a wider soundstage, but lacks the details that I used to hear when I had my few Grado headphones (SR225,325,PS500, Alessandro Grado, GS series) . I discover Marshall Monitor 3 ANC for a mixture of Grado sound signature combined with larger soundstage.
This might be the best review style of any headphones out there. You just gained another subscriber 💖

Both have some really great ANC, so if you're trying to find something with good ANC but at a cheaper price than the XM5 and that's what you care about the most, I'd say these are a good choice!

AirPods Pro 2. The sync is much better and way more seamless to move between devices. Hard to argue with ecosystem. The sound quality is solid but not the best out there.

Great review my guy. I’m a total bass head and a sony fanboy. Recently upgraded from the MDR-XB950B1 to the ULT wear. And honestly, I was disappointed from the LACK of bass. The 950B1 had wayyy more of a thump and that’s what I loved about it

The ULT Wear reminds me of my MDR-XB950N1's with the Bass-Effect button, I loved those headphones but I soon after went ahead n got the WH-1000XM4's and haven't looked back since, was introduced to LDAC and haven't been the same since. Now recently picked up the WH-1000XM5's and I can confidently say they're a step up from the XM4's and really enjoy using them.
Btw ULT1 is alright, still like that kinda rumble bass but ULT2 is ridiculous 😂 Sony shouldn't have added that!

I have the ULT, arriving in a few hours, I was a bit unsure as I was thinking maybe I should have still been saving for the m5, but as ANC, is my main reason, and audio a close second..I thought the ULT ANC was better, surprise to me ULT button at 1st position was great..#2 sucks. I purchased the XM4s last week and then saw this review, so decided to order the ULTs for the bass comparison. To be fair, I didn't hear hardly any difference. The ULTs fit my head better, but they looked much chunkier on my ears as the phones stuck out way more. I've decided to keep the XM4s and return the ULTs.
I always loved your reviews, but can you gives us an update from your sennheiser momentum 4 wireless headphones. Because I think momentum 4 wireless headphones need more attention.

Thanks. No plans for a dedicated video, but once I get to a roundup 4 headphone comparison, I plan to include it. Bose QC Ultra, XM5, Momentum 4, and hopefully there's a new AirPods Max for the fourth spot. Just being patient and waiting.
Unfortunately, focusing only on the Sennheiser doesn't have enough demand. The new earbuds video is showing that it's not as popular as I was hoping and I have to work through a lot of other videos first that people want and are more likely to succeed.
