Can I ask a genuine question of a leftist? If the people of a country decide to carefully regulate their borders and choose to maintain careful control of exactly who is allowed to permanently emigrate into the country, in order to attempt to filter out potential terrorists and to try to help reduce the number of career criminals and perhaps convicted rapists that will reside in the country in the future, does that constitute hatred? As someone looking in from outside the United States, two things strike me about this election: 1. The blatant partisanship of all the major news networks (I'm thinking about CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC), and 2. How little the issues matter; to me this seems to be more akin to tribal warfare than a rational consideration of who is best suited to govern the country. Note that I do not believe that the United States is the only country where elections are swayed by appealing to identity (on the contrary, this disturbing trend seems to be spreading across the globe). However, I cannot help but think that a system with multiple parties where elections would be decided based on proportional representation could perhaps help politics in the United States regain a bit of the nuance that it is sorely lacking, at least currently.
Dave Drader we do have Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and Green Party, however, only 2 parties are recognized by the powers that control our elections. Only Democrats and Republicans are invited to debate each other the other two parties are left out. It is a rigged corrupt system where corporations buy candidates and the old money runs our country. It has happened twice that a Democrat won the people’s vote and a Republican was voted into the WH by our electoral college, an antiquated system that has no place in politics today. So we ended up with Bush Jr. the first time he started the anger against Democrats and dividing our country by using the “You’re either with us or against us slogan”. We got a small reprieve from GOP with Obama. Now the electoral college voted Trump in. I am sure Trump bought his way in.
The multiple party system is not better. What ends up happening is coalitions are formed and it ends up being liberals vs conservatives. That isn't the issue in American politics. We don't have the parliamentary system.

Even setting aside the fact that the number of House seats the Republicans lost this year was far fewer than what the Democrats lost during the midterms of both Clinton and Obama's first terms (Clinton lost 54 House seats during his first midterm, and Obama lost 63), what matters is the Republicans now have an even greater hold on the Senate. Trump was smart enough to realize that's what he needed to campaign for, because now he has the power to fast track his next nominee to the Supreme Court the next time a seat becomes available (which, given how old Ruth Bader Ginsberg is, will probably be soon). Thanks to Harry Reid's short-sighted decision to change the rules in 2013 to enable Obama to stack the courts with only 51 Senate votes and deny the Republican minority at the time the power to filibuster, there won't be anything to stop Trump from putting in his next most likely nominee, Amy Coney Barrett. And because Amy Coney Barrett is a woman, nobody will take a false rape accusation against her seriously. The stage is set for the Supreme Court to have a conservative majority for decades, and that will have a far more profound effect on this country than anything the Democrats can do with the House in the next two years. Even setting aside the fact that the conservative Supreme Court can rule against any laws the House might pressure Trump into signing (or any laws a future Democratic President might sign) as unconstitutional, we all know the Democrats are going to squander their power in the House on investigations which won't go anywhere, while voters get increasingly pissed off over them not getting anything done, or even actively preventing things from getting done by obstructing Trump. And that's another thing. Even if Trump fucks up, now he has somebody he can point the finger at. Can I ask a genuine question of a leftist? If the people of a country decide to carefully regulate their borders and choose to maintain careful control of exactly who is allowed to permanently emigrate into the country, in order to attempt to filter out potential terrorists and to try to help reduce the number of career criminals and perhaps convicted rapists that will reside in the country in the future, does that constitute hatred? Is this attitude/approach considered to be fueled by hate of other races and cultures? I genuinely don't know what liberals believe and am actually interested to know how they define hate. Is the liberal ideal to welcome all people no matter what and then just see what happens? Assuming in 1000 years we were to have a world with no borders at all and all cultures and races were 100% mixed such that there was no human biodiversity left at all, and the entire world was like one big country, is this what liberal minded people would consider to be utopia?

As someone looking in from outside the United States, two things strike me about this election: 1. The blatant partisanship of all the major news networks (I'm thinking about CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC), and 2. How little the issues matter; to me this seems to be more akin to tribal warfare than a rational consideration of who is best suited to govern the country. Note that I do not believe that the United States is the only country where elections are swayed by appealing to identity (on the contrary, this disturbing trend seems to be spreading across the globe). However, I cannot help but think that a system with multiple parties where elections would be decided based on proportional representation could perhaps help politics in the United States regain a bit of the nuance that it is sorely lacking, at least currently.
Dave Drader we do have Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and Green Party, however, only 2 parties are recognized by the powers that control our elections. Only Democrats and Republicans are invited to debate each other the other two parties are left out. It is a rigged corrupt system where corporations buy candidates and the old money runs our country. It has happened twice that a Democrat won the people’s vote and a Republican was voted into the WH by our electoral college, an antiquated system that has no place in politics today. So we ended up with Bush Jr. the first time he started the anger against Democrats and dividing our country by using the “You’re either with us or against us slogan”. We got a small reprieve from GOP with Obama. Now the electoral college voted Trump in. I am sure Trump bought his way in.

I don't know where the Democrats get off saying they won the midterm. Sure, they took the House, which everyone expected considering the incumbent party almost always loses seats during the midterm of the President's first term. Even setting aside the fact that the number of House seats the Republicans lost this year was far fewer than what the Democrats lost during the midterms of both Clinton and Obama's first terms (Clinton lost 54 House seats during his first midterm, and Obama lost 63), what matters is the Republicans now have an even greater hold on the Senate.
Trump was smart enough to realize that's what he needed to campaign for, because now he has the power to fast track his next nominee to the Supreme Court the next time a seat becomes available (which, given how old Ruth Bader Ginsberg is, will probably be soon). Thanks to Harry Reid's short-sighted decision to change the rules in 2013 to enable Obama to stack the courts with only 51 Senate votes and deny the Republican minority at the time the power to filibuster, there won't be anything to stop Trump from putting in his next most likely nominee, Amy Coney Barrett.
And because Amy Coney Barrett is a woman, nobody will take a false rape accusation against her seriously.
The stage is set for the Supreme Court to have a conservative majority for decades, and that will have a far more profound effect on this country than anything the Democrats can do with the House in the next two years. Even setting aside the fact that the conservative Supreme Court can rule against any laws the House might pressure Trump into signing (or any laws a future Democratic President might sign) as unconstitutional, we all know the Democrats are going to squander their power in the House on investigations which won't go anywhere, while voters get increasingly pissed off over them not getting anything done, or even actively preventing things from getting done by obstructing Trump.
And that's another thing. Even if Trump fucks up, now he has somebody he can point the finger at.
The Democrats and their lapdogs in the media are claiming they won a game of chess by taking the most pawns, while Trump has set up a checkmate.
Even if you're a liberal, you should be pissed off at the Democrats for fucking up their chance to take back the Senate.
