Just a quick heads up; we're both college students! We also aren't affiliated with EZCap, we just review their products; we don't get anything for it, we just think they're a great, cheap alternative. If you have any questions or concerns about your device like:

From what I know, it has to be a usb.
The side by side screen comparison is helpful. Ezcap is also somewhat portable, since it doesn't require a PC.
I Own An Ezcap. Works Just Fine. I Was Worried Because I Couldn't Afford The Elgato And Everyone Was Recommending That Sole Capture Card. After I Bought The Ezcap Though.....It Litterally Gave Me No Problems And Had Good 1080 Def, Great With Sound, And Recorded Everything Very Smoothly. Really Glad I Didn't Just Buy What Everyone Else Had For Once.

Jacob mentioned it but one of the main factors you have to consider is not only the processor speed of your computer but also the RAM. Elgado says you must have 4 MB of RAM. My laptop computer has a fast enough processor but only has 3 MB of RAM. So I ordered the Ezcap today. I also like the option of saving it directly to a flash stick and then doing what you want with it.
Great video!, I have the Ezcap 280 and I think it's a great video capture, the only disadvantage I found with regard to Elgato is that with Ezcap isn't possible make live streaming videos, other than that it is an excellent video capture, practical and simple to use.
Thanks! It's the best low end capture card for sure! But that extra money in the Elgato is also really worth it.
Galaxy Scopers Through the HDMI it will record all sound coming out of your Xbox. So unless you can hear your voice in your party through your TV then you would need to get a cord or just record your voice to your separately which is what I do.

I have these problem with the new EZCAP284
- EZcap284 does not show up in PC device set up.
- Cannot use OBS to capture PC screen.
- Cannot use External Hard drive to store the recorded video.
- can use thump drive to store the recorded video
Does this mean it manufacturer faulty and should I return it since everything else including recording is excellent???

There is no pc recording option for the EZCap so the answer would be no. The quality would not be affected whatsoever. :)

Both cards record up to 1080p; the EZCap saves to a flash drive directly on the device which is 2.0, and the Elgato streams directly to your PC via USB 2.0.

That's a good place to start!
i have my system set to a receiver--would taking the hdmi cable plugged into the hdmi out on the capture device and connecting it to the receiver, still work to capture my game footage or does it *need* to be connected directly to the television/monitor?
The signal just needs to be ran through the capture card. So just make sure you have it running through the HDMI input.
You have to be careful about EZcap as it becomes unreliable very quickly. Mine only worked 100% for a couple weeks, then started to bug out. Sometimes footage would just not take for whatever reason. It got worse over time and just one year later got so bad it wouldn't record at all. Very frustrating when you think you captured hours of gameplay footage just to find some, or sometimes all, of it would not take. Also hard because if you lost hours of footage, trying again would mean starting the entire game all over again since they mostly use autosave now so you can't just load the last save and replay it.
the frame rate is obviously better on the elgato, but the quality of the capture looked slightly better with the ezcap to me.

ok lets say your in a party or in game chat on Xbox 360, would the EZcap get all of the words you say or would you need to get like a audio cable or something like that?

Edit:Guys being a RUclipsr is hard work, I ended up spending over 600 bucks on my set up (only intended on spending $421.00) because I decided to half it. Just go with quality guys get a Avermedia there the middle ground.

I'm sure that in the off chance anybody's EZcap explodes then I'm sure you can get in contact with the company and receive a refund or new capture card. Also my EZcap never exploded after several months of use. Also if your EZcap explodes then you may need to go with the Elgato as a replacement. The refund option can help go towards your purchase of the Elgato.
I didn't use it for like a month because I was out of state plugged it in one dad and it just made a loud bang, smelled like gun powder and started smoking so I just bought a Roxio HD Pro xD. BTW this my mom's RUclips I have no idea why I'm signed into her Gmail

Elliot Plays Games you would have to use the mic input on the card. Mine doesn't work so I just use dual system recording (I use audacity to record my audio while the card captures video). This method would require you to use editing software to sync the audio up in post though.

I recently bought the Elgato HD60 S and it works really well except for slight lag every once in a while but not enough to be a big problem. My computer isn't the best so I'm trying to save up for a better computer.
I am thinking about getting that can you tell me your specs cause I don't know if my computer is good enough for it

hello, I have the EZCAP 280 same one as on the video. I am having problems trying to record my voice while I am trying to do gameplay videos. I can hear the game itself but I can not hear myself. I am on the PS3 could you please help me out?

Not sure what this means, and it may not even be relevant anymore, but it outputs to USB; we put that in the computer and then copy the files to our PC's hard drive.
tempting to try the cheaper one.....Elgato is best for dedicated gamers....for the EZcap, wonder how long it's encoder will last though.....is it similar to the laser used in standalone dvd recorders? That only lasts a few years
probably will last forever as long as you mod it by making a heatsink and a cheap fan.

GONZOglasses If you have that extra $100 to spend. You have a lot more flexibility with the elgato but you also have to keep in mind you need a fact pc too.

I'm recording at 1080p on my ps4 with the Ezcap and everytime I start it keeps turning the screen blank every 4 seconds then coming back to the game. Don't know what to do, I don't think I can get a refund.

I've heard of the two but haven't looked into either system specifically.
I have the Ezcap, and I recorded last two videos with it, and I'm pretty happy with it. However, somehow it doesn't let the signal go throught YPBPR (component) input, it's like it's broken or something. I read in the manual that 'you may update your firmware if needed', but, I can't find the firmware anywhere. Can someone help me? I can only record throught that YPBPR input (component) because I'm using a PS3 as my primary console. Thank you in advance!

You can only save them to the USB device but then transfer them to your computer.
Can you put a external hard drive in the ezcap? Like a WD passport.
ECXTD you can put a Flash drive to save your recordings.
I mean as long as it reads as a flash drive you should be fine. The WD Passports should work alright but the WD Backup Plus Hubs wouldn't work because of the nature of their formatting. Let us know if it works! Great question.
Yes...any hard drive will store the files made by ezcap...agptek...hd capture boxes because they encode h.254 MP4 and store on either ntfs and fat32 systems....not sure about mac.

That is true and we would use 32gb sandisk flash drives but any flash drive will work.

In order to get your voice to run through the card for encoding then you would have to make it to where your voice is playing through your TV. You could also plug in an external 3.5mm mic into the input jack on the front of the card.
Hi I'm trying to record with ezcap280 through HDMI on the Xbox 1 but when I have everything I need plunged in ( the only thing not plugged in or used is the ypbpr input) and I press the record button the light doesn't turn red ( which means it isn't recording). Please help me.

I checked all android apps, but there is no app available to run Elgato on cellphones, I hop there is one and it does easycap job, but at least in HD, or 720 or 1080p.
We aren't sure what you mean, but there are apps in the Android App Store that will allow for screen capture. The Elgato and EZCap have nothing to do with that; neither are capable of screen capturing your android device. I'm sure there are ways to finagle some micro hdmi and standard hdmi connections, but it won't be practical.
I was thinking, connect this device between my PC and Cellphone and games played on my PC monitor to be transmited to my cellphone screen. So I can me able slide the cellphone in to my goggle.
+Brian Shaabani if you're looking for VR, standard games won't scale to that automatically. You'll need some mods that are specific to your phone and the headset you're using. That being said, mirroring displays to a smart phone is not possible; the required settings aren't there on the phone itself
Thanks guys, I managed it with FPV goggle, it's not VR but it gives me full view of my pc monitor in to the goggle, to play my pc games on my goggle.

Avermedia Live Gamer Portable can record & Live stream to your PC. But it is also Portable meaning you can take it to someone house and record by SD card, if you dont have a pc around. check it out. it called Avermedia Live Gamer Portable. Not the Avermedia Live Gamer Portable lite, that does not support SD card, with means you can only record to your PC and stream, but no SD slot! so you always need a PC. but it is cheaper.

+Arcade Players TV you can, but only at 720p. You have to set your xbox video output to 720p and the ezcap will automatically record 60fps.

I'm not entirely sure what the 60fps 720p bitrate is but it is around 10mbps which would make a 30 minute video around 2gb. Give or take a bit or two.

Say I use the ezcap on my Xbox 360, can I record my voice live and my friends' voices in the Xbox live part also?
in order to record your voice you would have to use the component input and then use the mic jack on the ezcap. for your friends voices just make sure you set it up to where their voices are played through your tv's speakers and they should be picked up through that.
And what is just component quality like? So not the hdmi
themonster749 so the mic function has not worked for me but I've only tried it with turtle beaches which I have heard don't work on this cap. card anyway. I would be safe and say not to expect a mic to work on it but you do have 2 3.5mm jacks. I am not sure what the component quality is like because I have only used HDMI but they are not the regular red, white, and yellow. The input is for the RCA so you will have a blue, green, and red channel for video with the normal white and red audio. I would assume this method of recording would be fine but I do not own such cables and cannot test it Sorry.

Not for sure what you mean here; if you're recording to the device itself they shouldn't be able to. If the mic is plugged into your controller the answer to your question is yes.

Last time I saw the same product, there was a photo that said it was not compatible with OBS, VLC etc. It was not the same Amazon link though, but looked like the same product.

Does the EZcap actually do 60fps? Both the Newegg and Amazon page says they do, but configuring that would be hard without a program on the PC.

Jacob & Jacob That's a shame. I'll figure something out. That PC acts weird when using non standard resolutions, so 960 x 720 isn't scaled to the entire screen.

That is a question I have asked myself. I am not 100% sure how a computer would end up reading the Ezcap but I'm almost certain you would not be able to edit with it. There is a software that comes with it that allows you to edit your clips. The current method is sound enough though. Just usb drive to record then transfer the files accordingly and then import to your editor of choice. Hope this helped!
