I'm so torn on what I should do for my intake setup. I've read so many things and have heard so many varying results. Hearing now that K&N drop ins can get you some slight gains, but allow a lot of trash into the engine. May just stay stock. I'm documenting the progress with my Q50 if you're at all interested in checking it out!
TO an extent there are some mods available for the hybrid, but being how unique the car is itself, its pretty limited. Im not well versed in the hybrid model but I know the exhaust and intakes can be changed with no issues. As far as any major mods to the engine, you may needs to check out some forums to see what others have done.
Looks and sounds great man! Nice Q50! I own a modded, Black Obsidian Q50 3.7 Premium RWD with the optional nav system and spare tire packages. I will make more videos with my latest mods soon. As of now I have Optimus CAI's that bring air into the engine through the front grille similar to the old Stillen Gen 3 long tube CAI's on the G37. I have an EcuTek Tune. I had a custom fabricated 2.5" H-Pipe installed enabling true dual exhaust. It has Berk HFC's, Dual Resonator Deletes. It put down 311 HP / 255 TQ at the wheels in 100 degree heat in the dyno shop. Stock it put down 276 RWHP / 241 RWTQ in about 80 degree temps at the same shop. My Q50 also has lightweight 20x9 Verde Parallax wheels all around wrapped in 255/35ZR Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires all around, A.K.A square, as I'm sure you know. Other mods are rear red LED turn signal bulbs + hyperflash resistors. Blue/White LED license plate and complete interior lights. My Q now has 100% LED lighting inside and out. Last for now, window tint. Best of luck with your Q50! I'd love for you to check out my Q50 vids when you get a chance. I freaking love this car! TTYL.
Thanks for the comment man, I checked out a few of your vids with the Q and its looking great man! Im planning myself to put a new video on the z1 2 piece rotors and reviewing them after a month plus of usage. Good luck with your build as well!
@@tyjohnson2823 I actually bought the intakes from a buddy of mine who upgraded to a Stillen centrifugal supercharger. He only charged me $200.00, plus he installed them for me since we've been great friends for over 30 years. I'll have to ask him where he bought them from. As soon as I hear back from him I'll let you know. He works crazy long hours like I do, so I may not hear back from him until the weekend, but I won't forget to let you know.

Hey Max, I forgot to mention that I finally just uploaded my best exhaust video that I made about a month ago. I forgot to post it lol. Everything is listed in the description. No rush, I just wanted to bring it up. Ttyl man.
Qx models might be different as far as intake set up go. Not sure 100% though. Check out conceptzperformance.com or z1motorsport, both are great sites.
Do you get more flow from K&N? Yes. Do you get more HP? Yes (marginally). You also get a LOT more road dirt. More water and more gunk in your intake. I have had a K&N on my 2005 G35 sedan for over 10 years. I have cleaned and oiled them at the recommended intervals, using K&N's recomended procedure using ONLY K&N products. I do not over/under oil. There is a black gritty film that runs from the filter throughout the entire intake system. It has worn out my VQ35 prematurely. It only has 137000 miles. My VQ40 in my Frontier has only had factory air cleaners now has 267000 miles on it and uses 1/3 quart in 8000 miles. I will NEVER run anything but factory filters and intake ever again.
As you said the 3.7L V6 gets hot. Your intakes however are sucking in your hot engine bay air. You need to get cooler air which is denser providing more O2 into the intake charge. Hence more power. You will be better off putting on a true Cold Air Intake system. Your OEM air box may have done this already. My G37IPL stock intake worked well. The IPL made more power due to an OEM ECU tweek and a true SS dual exhaust. To bad Infiniti quit making the IPL line. My modified Q50 Red Sport is now "IPLed" so to speak.. I even put the IPL factory badge on the trunk lid 😎 to confuse the dealer 😉
Yeah I plan on getting this change out soon, but not a huge priority at the moment. However aside from the oem, is there any aftermarket intakes you would recommend that actually act as cold air intakes lol? I heard a few times the takeda brand intakes are good.
If you still have this car, then the Takeda Stage-2 Intake System is the best option. They suck in cold air from the front grille as if you still had the OEM filter box.
@@MaxCherepenin i was going to repleace my injen intake to k&n intake for my q50s but after your feedback on this video i strat stop thinking about it :(
super0snake1 Takeda is the best way to go, it is one of the few that are true cold air intakes. It mates up to your stock intake box and pulls cold out from outside of the car rather then engine bay air

takeda won't fit I tried already. the q50s have the radiator a bit different then on the g37 and 370z
Talks way too much about nothing! Just fast forward to about 8m20s..
Has it given you issues 3 years later I'm thinking of installing in my q50
Still good to this day, no issues at all.
Hi Max,
so you have to remove the fluid washer tank to fit the CAI?
Nope, easy install and only removal of your old intakes is needed.
yo guys im new to JDM AND VQ35HR.. had bmw's before that bought a q50s hybrid is it modable? cold air intake+exhaust mod will give it 400hp ish?

@@MaxCherepenin yeah everyone says no mods for the hybrid, but engine tweaks can be done thanks for the reply
Best intake for vq37 Are kn drop in...
Why’s that
I think asf dry drop in air filters are the safest way to go.

These or drop in filters from K&N
I hear the drop ins are better.

Gorgeous car but its way overweight
Yeah the sedans are usually heavy but still an overall fun car to drive.

It's actually lighter than the 370z,. That's why it's faster.
@@Chadchawkins idk where you got that info but you are dead wrong.
The 370z is atleast 200 to 300 pounds lighter if not more.
