- The non-mutual relationship between two different species in which one species gets benefitted is called 'Parasite' and the one which gets harm is called 'Host'. Adaptation is the fitness of an organism to its environment that results in suitable morphological and physiological correlation between an organism and its environment.
Many helminthes genera are parasitic on many vertebrate animals including humans. To name a few from Phylum Platyhelminthes are - Taenia solium, Fasciola hepatica, Paragonimus westermani, Schistosoma haematobium etc. Phylum Nematoda includes Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, Wuchereria bancrofti etc.
Origin of 'Parasitism' dates back to geological times. It is a secondary mode of life, arisen from free living way of life.
Though the parasites show variation in their habitat, mode of infection etc., possess similar adaptations for parasitism. Morphological adaptations include - Loss of certain organs, modification of certain organs and development of certain organs. In addition to the morphological modifications, parasites also develop some physiological adaptations too to fit themselves in various habitats of host bodies.
