Great sound! These things are loud compared to every locomotive here in Europe fitted with the MTU4000 engine. Clearly not as stringent noise regulations in NZ!
@@TheKiwianTrainspotting Yes I know, I have been in NZ twice and did some rail mileage. DBR and DC were pretty loud, but the DX was my favorite. Remember those nights at Picton caravan park when you heard them climbing all the way from the harbour to Elevation!
Thank you! There are a few different classes of flat wagons mixed around this train, but generally they are around 16 meters long over the headstocks. So they fit 2x 20ft containers or 1x 40ft container with 4 meters spare.
@@TheKiwianTrainspottingI also hope your subscription to my beautiful channel my good friend, I have very nice videos that without a doubt you will like very much 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰. Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷 to NZ.
Hi Gordon, these are KiwiRail’s ‘DL’ class locomotives (numbered 9008-9688) produced by CRRC Dalian. They’re fairly new locomotives - the oldest arrived here in 2010, and the newest in 2018. Currently as a class of 63, with 10 more on order due to arrive this or next year. They’re powered by MTU 4000R43 engines, producing 3500hp, currently NZ’s most powerful locos in service. Hope this helped
Great video Hunter, those DL's sounded great!
Cheers Hamish. They sure do
Cool catch! 👍👍 Have a great weekend😎😎

Cheers! I think they actually violate noise regulations here, but nothing's been done about it haha. Though, they're not our loudest locos 😄

Great video hunter DLs notch 8 sounds great
Cheers! They do.
Great! How long are the container flats? There seems to be a bit of a gap between two 20' containers on a flat.

I'm a retired US engineer and I would like to know more about these engines. How much h.p., what type of prime mover, who built them, etc. Thanks.

What has happened to Kiwirails electric locomotives 🚂
They've been taken out of service a few weeks ago for upgrade and overhaul work. The first two are due out of Hutt Workshops in the coming months.
@@TheKiwianTrainspotting oh okay thanks for that information and I'm very pleased that the work is being done at the Hutt Workshops
