And after all the other gods tried to cheer Demeter up, Baubo approached Demeter and simply lifted up the front of her skirt. Whatever Demeter saw was so hilarious that she smiled and laughed for the first time in months, and therefore brought the harvest back to the mortals on Earth. She’s fun :)

For example Plato and sokrates both explained why people called him plouton instead of Hades. I think that it's more to do with the fact that Rome combined the Greek gods of Wealth, precious minerals and the underworld together when they created Pluto
I actually have heard of Penia & Plutus, thanks to this guy. He made a whole video focusing on those two. Keep up the good work, Jon Solo!!!!!!! 👍👍👍😄😄😄👏👏👏
I remember they had Plutus show up in Supernatural Season 8, where he runs an exclusive magical objects auction (some god tried to buy Thor's hammer for some pieces of virgin, if I remember correctly). :D
(Paused video at beginning to write this) I use to love Greek mythology as a kid, challenge accepted. (Finished video) I knew the first and last two, so pretty cool, you taught me some new gods 😊 especially Arke, I always liked Cronus and the titans. Their being overthrown was interesting to me.
I thought Eris was a fairly well-known goddess. I distinctly remember her in Billy and Mandy, she's in Smite using her alternate name, Discordia, and she's an antagonist in the Wonder Woman franchise.
I heard of Plutus, Oizys (before Percy Jackson), and Eris, Goddess of Discord and Strife. She's the opposite of the daughter of Ares and Aphrodite: Harmonia. Some say Eris was the daughter of Nyx (maybe with Erebus, maybe alone), others say she's the daughter of Zeus and Hera, and may or may not be the twin sister of Ares. She accompanied Ares every time he went to war, she's his charioteer. Ares is also accompanied by his fear twins: Phobos and Deimos, and Enyo another sister, a War Goddess. Others say Eris and Enyo are the same Goddess. Ares' name spelt in Greek is A-R-I-S (Aris and Eris. Makes sense IF they're twins,: their names are similar...then again Apollo and Artemis are twins, and their names aren't similar 😅).
I'm writing a story based in Greek mythology, and have a scene where Nike runs into a wingless Arke in Tartarus. She's kinda crazy and tries to steal Nike's own wings, lol.
Would be funny if she succeeded and the Gods started having suspicions that the one they have with them is not Iris coz Arke was just barely keeping her craziness in check.
@TaLeng2023 that would be funny! But thematically, that encounter is supposed to shake Nike's faith in the justice of the Gods, as she's close with Iris, Arke's sister. And it could have just as easily have been her, or Nike herself if she'd chosen the wrong side in the war (the Titanomachy). She can see up close how cruel that sentance was.
Imagine starting a war because you didn’t get invited to a wedding “Like, oops did I do that, I didn’t mean to kill thousands of soldiers, break up a married couple and kill a prince, whoopsie”
You underestimate how important wedding and celebrations are in South-Eastern Europe this thing can happen even today between families! To be put down in mythology was simply the norm back then.
Diversity is strength. Well, no not exactly. Diversity (of thought) leads to conflict and conflict leads to strength. With this in mind, Eris plays a very important role. Through discord is conflict and through conflict comes strength. She can also be looked at through the revolutionary lens for when drastic social change is required. It many ways she is like the character of Satan in the Book of Job challenging the accepted order.

In addition she has her own religion called Dyscordianism, it’s religious text being the Principia Discordia (Sorry if this is a lot of writing, I just really like Eris and her roles in Greek mythology)
So, in DC comics, the Flash is the fastest man alive. In mythic terms, he is often equated with the god Hermes, the original speedster, but Hermes was not the only speedster in Greek myth. The other was Iris. Is it a coincidence that the girlfriend/wife of Barry Allen (The Flash) is named Iris?
I was so excited when the new Percy Jackson tv show said her name because she’s been one of my favorite goddesses for YEARS and PJO has always meant a lot to me
The name woman girl who actually was actually not invited to Thetis and Peleus wedding was named Discord, and yes, she did start the Trojan war with throwing the golden appls on the table.
Erm actually☝️🤓 Plutus is a roman god of wealth Who got fused with the roman god Pluto when creating a roman equivalent for Hades, so the reason you’ve never heard of him is because he turned into Pluto, and his name stopped being used.
Erie, or Irish, goddess of discord, that is actually one of my favorites of mythology, and yet it’s true a lot of people don’t know of her. It’s not the only legend of either the golden apple or the roots of the Trojan war, but it’s in my opinion the best and most entertaining.
You forgot to mention Mesperyian, the goddess of torture and punishment, and most beloved daughter of Hades! For those that don’t know, Mesperyian is a fictitious goddess made up as a joke on Tumblr, originally appearing in a response to people talking about who to name in a situation like the golden apple of Eris.
I love these unpopular gods and goddesses so much so I created a fictional God system based on some of these especially Iris and her sister. Eris is not only the goddess of disagreement, but also discord and chaos. Only time I've seen her referenced was DreamWorks Sinbad. Wish we saw her more.
The last one is cool. That is literally me in every way you could think of. 🥰 *I have never heard of any of these people* except for maybe a few of them*
Eris' story is very funny > write "for the most beautiful" on an apple > drops apple next to Hera, Aphrodite and Athena > the 3 ask Paris the prince to say who's hotter > "uuuh..." > they get naked in front of the guy > Aphrodite bribes Paris with Helen > war ensues
I already knew of Oizys long before PJO, she is a child of Nyx and is mentioned in Hesiod. Not many people have read it however so I see how it can still be considered obscure
harpocrates is also a fairly unknown one, only reason i know about him is from the trials of appollo series, he is the greek god of silence and was "created" when the greeks went to egypt and found a statue of Horus as a kid, which depicted him with his hand over his mouth like a shushing gesture, so the greeks misunderstood and interpreted it as a god of silence and secrets, he is one of my favorites
It says that how you died is where your bath mark is and whether arrow is in the guys leg is exactly where mine is, and sometimes I feel electricity coming out of my hands!
Plutus (also known as Pluto) is Hades aspect when the gods moved to Rome. The gods would move wherever belief in them was the strongest. This kept them alive. If they where forgotten altogether, they would cease to exist. Zues became Jupiter. Poseidon became Neptune (and more hated in Roman times) and Hades became Pluto. Their personalities would change as well. Pluto focused more on the wealth side as hades focused more on the dead. Even Ares(who would become Mars) calmed down a little
Plutus and Hades are seperate entities in greek mythos, you're thinking of their mutual roman variant Pluto as Plutus is the son of Demeter and a mortal Iasion and/or the goddess of fortune, Tyche and/or the son of Hades and Persphone. Meanwhile Hades is the eldest brother of the original six Olympians and god of the underworld and (occasionally re:roman) riches which is not the same as wealth. Eris is the goddess of Dicord, far more severe than 'dissagreement'. She threw The Apple of /Discord/ infront of Hera, Aphrodite and Athena saying that the most beautiful/attractive goddess deserved it. Zues didn't want to die so he pinned the decision on Paris, who chose Aphrodite(She promised him Helen of Troy) which in turn started the Trojan war. Also, this doesn't matter as much can still be important, Arke and Iris aren't twins they are simply sisters. As far as many sources are aware Artemis and Apollo are the only set of twims in the greek pantheon due to the myth about their birth and their mother Leto. Hope this helps. :)
My impression was that Eris was already fairly famous. But this is the first time I've seen her be referred as the goddess of disagreement. It's usually "discord" or "strife" 🤔

I don't believe so - though that would be an interesting trait when you consider he has a helm of invisibility! He was blind to the world, so the cyclopes gave him the power to make the world blind to him. 🤯
@@JonSolo 🤯
That is a really interesting question -- !!
I mean his name translates to "Unseen."
Oizys is has been my favorite goddess for a long time. She’s the daughter of nyx, the goddess of the night. I love both of them so much!
When you have read the percy jackson books and watched its show: .....
Heard of the last one when the golden apple of aphrodite situation happened when i was reading abt the stories
Very informative thank You.
Oizys has recently started to bless me more and more.
Eris truly know how to trow a shade and and get away with it
I remember they had Plutus show up in Supernatural Season 8, where he runs an exclusive magical objects auction (some god tried to buy Thor's hammer for some pieces of virgin, if I remember correctly). :D
On the picture thumbnail, I thought it said “Zeus ripped off her wig” 😭
(Paused video at beginning to write this)
I use to love Greek mythology as a kid, challenge accepted.
Also from the movie Sinbad!
Oh man that sounds cool! My friend is about to publish a romance book with Eris!
That sounds so damn cool, please drop the link here once u are done with that story. It already sounds bomb af
Yeah
Would be funny if she succeeded and the Gods started having suspicions that the one they have with them is not Iris coz Arke was just barely keeping her craziness in check.
@TaLeng2023 that would be funny! But thematically, that encounter is supposed to shake Nike's faith in the justice of the Gods, as she's close with Iris, Arke's sister. And it could have just as easily have been her, or Nike herself if she'd chosen the wrong side in the war (the Titanomachy). She can see up close how cruel that sentance was.
Bro I’ve been watching since Jongasm it’s nice to see you’re still going hard ‼️💯
Percy "How much misery can Misery take" Jackson
Like daaaym
Imagine starting a war because you didn’t get invited to a wedding
“Like, oops did I do that, I didn’t mean to kill thousands of soldiers, break up a married couple and kill a prince, whoopsie”
You underestimate how important wedding and celebrations are in South-Eastern Europe this thing can happen even today between families! To be put down in mythology was simply the norm back then.
There were a few relatives of mine who came pretty close to this when they weren't invited to my wedding... 😅
@@JonSolo dang really…..😟
My favorite goddess is actually Eris lol.
Was this before or after you read the Principia Discordia?
Diversity is strength. Well, no not exactly. Diversity (of thought) leads to conflict and conflict leads to strength. With this in mind, Eris plays a very important role. Through discord is conflict and through conflict comes strength. She can also be looked at through the revolutionary lens for when drastic social change is required. It many ways she is like the character of Satan in the Book of Job challenging the accepted order.
@@mdod0 well I heard about her in grim adventures, and read about her. I just loved her.
I remember her from billy and mandy
@@HaikuMarionette wow, now I feel old. Discordianism used to be big back when the internet was new.
I hope the creators of Bill and Mandi got their inspiration from that.
ΤΗΙ ΚΑΛΛΙΣΤΗΙ
Eris is definitely pretty well known, having been referenced in many different shows/games/stories. The others I could definitely see.
CORRECTION : Eris is the goddess of Chaos, discord, and strife:) as well as many people do know of eris, she’s referenced quite a lot in media, examples being the Percy Jackson and hero’s of Olympus series’s where she was referenced once in the sea of monsters( second Percy Jackson and the Olympians book) and made a appearance in the house of hades (fourth heros of Olympus book) she was also the main antagonist in the dream works movie; Sinbad: legend of the seven seas.
In addition she has her own religion called Dyscordianism, it’s religious text being the Principia Discordia
(Sorry if this is a lot of writing, I just really like Eris and her roles in Greek mythology)
Thanks. I like mythology and those gods were unknown to me until now.
😧
That last one sounds like where Disney got inspiration for Maleficent from.
Eris “They didn’t invite me to their wedding? Fine. Don’t worry. I won’t do anything to drastic “
* Accidentally starts a war *
I was so excited when the new Percy Jackson tv show said her name because she’s been one of my favorite goddesses for YEARS and PJO has always meant a lot to me
I love Penia, I feel so bad for her she had to suffer but I feel blessed by Penia ❤
Ah yes, Eris, Grim's love interest and one of the few dummies that thought they could mess with Mandy
The Percy Jackson series refered to her as the goddess of Misery unless there was an episode I've missed in the show or a scene
Arke is the only one I never heard of. Eris is a being of pure Chaos, but she OWNS it
WoW really cool gods, specially the cuban one
The name woman girl who actually was actually not invited to Thetis and Peleus wedding was named Discord, and yes, she did start the Trojan war with throwing the golden appls on the table.
Erm actually☝️🤓
Plutus is a roman god of wealth Who got fused with the roman god Pluto when creating a roman equivalent for Hades, so the reason you’ve never heard of him is because he turned into Pluto, and his name stopped being used.
Like if you've seen Sinbad and already knew who Eris was.
The amount if ppl in the comments who clearly haven't seen it honestly shocks me!
The more you know
I just love Iris, she is literally sooo cool!
Eris is actually known well enough. Though I've never heard of her being the godess of disagreement, but the godess of chaos with her apple of discord
I know Isis, Osiris, Iris and Adonis. Those are my kids names 😊
I knew about the Trojan war one. I actually learned about it this year.
Erie, or Irish, goddess of discord, that is actually one of my favorites of mythology, and yet it’s true a lot of people don’t know of her. It’s not the only legend of either the golden apple or the roots of the Trojan war, but it’s in my opinion the best and most entertaining.
After reading PJO, I went on a massive research about every possible god, goddess and monster!
Eris is the godess of DISCORD (same thing as disagreement, but also slightly different, as it means more than that)
The fact i know all of them makes me very proud of myself
Especially Eris and Oizys, i love those two daughters of Nyx!
Iris is heavily mentioned in Percy Jackson so I wouldn’t call her forgotten
You forgot to mention Mesperyian, the goddess of torture and punishment, and most beloved daughter of Hades!
For those that don’t know, Mesperyian is a fictitious goddess made up as a joke on Tumblr, originally appearing in a response to people talking about who to name in a situation like the golden apple of Eris.
Eris from the Sinbad movie and Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Can't forget that.
*I have never heard of any of these people* except for maybe a few of them*
Can u do Irene the goddess of peace pls?
Eris is a well-known goddess, she was even the main villain in the movie Sinbad Legend of the Seven Seas, and her design just perfect
"Eris. Goddess of discord. No doubt you've seen my likeness on the temple walls" - Sinbad (2003)
Imagine people praying to you saying “leave me alone”
Eris' story is very funny
> write "for the most beautiful" on an apple
> drops apple next to Hera, Aphrodite and Athena
> the 3 ask Paris the prince to say who's hotter
> "uuuh..."
> they get naked in front of the guy
> Aphrodite bribes Paris with Helen
> war ensues
Ironically as a subscriber to your channel we've heard of all of them
Hades being called plutus is similar to his Roman counterpart, Pluto
Eris was also the goddess of discord, rivalry, and sporting competition.
Also, we could say that Maleficent was a fan of her
I knew of Eris, I feels special XD how about some unknown Norse or Egyptian deities?
Can you tak about Freja the love god pls
I already knew of Oizys long before PJO, she is a child of Nyx and is mentioned in Hesiod. Not many people have read it however so I see how it can still be considered obscure
harpocrates is also a fairly unknown one, only reason i know about him is from the trials of appollo series, he is the greek god of silence and was "created" when the greeks went to egypt and found a statue of Horus as a kid, which depicted him with his hand over his mouth like a shushing gesture, so the greeks misunderstood and interpreted it as a god of silence and secrets, he is one of my favorites
I knew of Eris from Sinbad the cartoon. She is awesome.
I think a lot of people know about Eris cuz she’s like the main cause for the Trojan war. We talked about her when we read the Iliad in English
Eris is literally in the Illiad though. Goddess of discord who throws a golden apple.
It says that how you died is where your bath mark is and whether arrow is in the guys leg is exactly where mine is, and sometimes I feel electricity coming out of my hands!
Eris was prominently featured (as an antagonist) in the Sinbad animated film.
I already knew of "eris" because of the grim adventures of billy and mandy
Eris: I am also Ares' twin sister and I drive his chariot onto the battlefield.
As a mythology nerd, (Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse, Maya, Ect,) I can proudly say I already knew all of these 😌
I know so much about Eris, she's also the goddess of discord, strife, choas, ect.
As a Greek, I can confirm even we don't ever learn about any of them in school. Sad
