@@MOBStreet83 I’m getting the click click I don’t want to start! Had to get push started to get home. I have a funny feeling I’m having the same connection issue with the voltage regulator.
Nice video from Australia having sort of same dramas with 87 softail evo, have replaced battery and stator and the voltage regulator but is still not charging the battery, do you have any ideas on how to exactly wire voltage regulator on to circuit breaker ? I forgot which wires go where 😅
Hey! Thanks for tuning in! My circuit breaker sits right behind the oil bag on the right side of the bike. So, I have my voltage regulator bolted to the left side of the breaker and my positive cable on the right side of the breaker. I hope that helps!
Really need some help here. Been in all the forums getting conflicting replies. 83 FXSB 1340 brand new regulator putting out 14.58 fully revved. Is that gonna cook my agm battery? Guy's saying 14.4 should be the max. The old lead acid batteries can handle the higher voltage but the agm batteries will cook over 14.5? Thank you in advance
It will run off the battery until the battery is dead. That is what was throwing me off. Everything was testing fine but the prong on the Voltage Regulator plug was broken so the connector wasn't staying in place and the bike would run off the battery voltage until the battery died.
I bought it from Drag Specialties. I saw it while I was at the dealer show in Wisconsin and talked with them a while about it. I don't know if they have the flame stitched model any more but here is the link to the website and then type in you machine information. www.dragspecialties.com
Getting conflicting info. Other info says stator plug can have .02 ohms. Very confused as my 1998 flhtcui goes from l to .02 on both terminals from stator. Good or no good?
If you are checking for a grounded stator, check each terminal against a good ground. You should have no continuity. Across the two pins of the plug itself you can have 0.1-0.2 ohms if it is lower than that the plug is damaged and the stator should be replaced. That is straight out of my Factory Service Manual for the 1995 and 1996 Softail Models.
Question, same evo 2 prong plug...New battery,New Rectifer, getting strong voltage from the stator up to 50volts ac, but still not charging the bike...Tested my 30 amp breaker to where the rectifer goes has continuity, also have continuity from the breaker stud to the battery?..Any thoughts, Could be stator still be bad if its throwing out strong voltage
Is it not charging while the bike is running? Have you put the multimeter leads on the battery while running and see what your battery voltage is? Is should measure 13.5 to 14.8. Or is it dying after sitting over night?
I just bought my first bike it is a 2019 harley-davidson xl1200ns and my battery won't stay charged what should my stator be at still at 14? Or lower since it is a smaller bike?
Nope, it should still be around 14. Do you have any electrical aftermarket upgrades done to the bike? It could be a parasitic draw that is draining the battery.
@MOBStreet 83 the only thing I have added is a tracker but it said it was ment for a motorcycle but it had a tuner on it when I bought it other than that mechanically it is stock
Hello Mob Street ! I have a question about my 1998 Heritage , how do I get rid of that fart, hip cup, back fire like deal , back through the carb ? Do I need to advance my timing or retard it ? THANK YOU
Hey Tommy! I wouldn't do anything to it just yet. Have you done anything to the carb? Is it still the stock jetting? How's the air filter? Has it been cleaned? Do you have an intake leak in the carb boot? There are few things to check and need more info on before you go and start messing with the timing.
@@MOBStreet83 Thank for the reply ! I got this bike as the 2nd owner with only 474 miles, it has done it since the day I got it ! I’m getting 0.48 on the rectifier test, both are equal. No issues to ground etc. is this ok or too low? Battery seems to be getting charged ok when i test at idle but it drains during a ride and will die and have cooked the battery after about 25 miles. Everything else seems fine apart from this test. How close to 0.5v does it have to be?
How can I actually test the rectifier and not assume it’s what’s wrong ? I have a good battery and a strong stator voltage but my bikes not charging, I’ve swapped regulators like this video suggests and still nothing.
It must be the connector after the rectifier the little single wire one, or I have a bad wire somewhere from that connector to the battery, or ground right ? I’m so tired of this bike man I’ve tried everything and have been let down everytime. It’s got a good battery, and a good stator, and I’ve swapped regulators. Almost to the point of giving up. I have no one or no shop that can help me as my bikes older than 2000 so the Harley place won’t touch it.
Hey Hunter! Don't get discouraged, I know it sucks sometimes trying to figure this stuff out. Here is what my service manual says about "testing" the regulator. It isn't hard to do. First off, that little single wire is your ground wire. So make sure the connection it screws to is nice and clean on the bike. Here is what my manual says: Regulator Inspection: The regulator base must have a clean, tight connection for the proper grounding. Check by using ohmeter with one lead on a known good ground, such as a battery ground cable, and the other on the regulator base. Connector plug at engine crankcase must be clean and tight....(this is what was wrong with mine) Regulator Bleed Test: be sure regulator is connected to the battery. Unplug regulator connector at engine crankcase. Use a trouble light and touch one probe to a known good ground and the other to the regulator pins one at a time. If the light glows, replace the regulator. Let me know if this helps. Yeah, you can test the wiring from the battery to see if one is grounded. Use your ohmeter to check one end to the other to see if there is a break in the wires somewhere.
