WOW ~ I applaud you for your tenacious persistence! That's amazing ~ loved hearing your story. I got Italian citizenship back in 2006, and two of my kids did too. This was through Croce, my husband, who was born and raised in Sicily. So our process was fairly straightforward due to that. Question: Did the law change at some point about not allowing dual citizenship? Croce did not have to renounce his Italian citizenship when he naturalized in the U.S. Also, do you have to pass a language test for your citizenship or does Diana? Thank you. 😊 Very interesting hearing your story! Ciao ~ Carol Amato
@@TheSicilianLife thank you for your comment. I think at one time they did not allow dual citizenship. I believe it changed in the 90's, but don't quote me. I don't need a language test but Diana will to get hers. I am waiting on the judge right now to assign a case number and a court date. It has been hard to be patient especially with the house renovation and everything else going on.
@@theSicilyAdventure bless your hearts. I know it's a long process. You're going to be greatly rewarded very soon, so that will be all worth it! You're building your dream place with a gorgeous view. Will say a prayer that the judge will assign it soon. ~ Ciao, Carol
Hey Joe, my name is also Joe. I am currently waiting for the Consul in San Francisco to review my application for Juris Sanguinis. It took over 3 years to get the appointment and the consulate said it would take another 6 months to a year to receive a response. My application is pretty straightforward with a couple minor name and date discrepancy typos. My grandfather hadn't naturalized yet when my mom was born so hoping they will recognize my mom's inherited citizenship and subsequently mine. 🤞🏼🇮🇹 I recently retired and hoping to live part-time in Sicily. Been there several times. Headed back for a couple months in September. Thanks for posting. Your journey has required a lot of perseverance. 👍🏼 Hope it pays off in the end.
Hey, Joe, Nice to meet you and the Mrs. Wish you success in your 1948 case. I’ve learned so much from Marco & Rafael in their RUclips videos. My wife Liz and I are just starting our own 1948 journey to Sicily with ICA’s services. My great grandmother is from Castellammare Del Golfo. Ciao!

Wow, my great grandfather came from Caccamo, too! I want dual citizenship, but now that Italy is requiring my grandfather to have been 21 when my great grandfather became a citizen, i no longer qualify :'(
@theSicilyAdventure Luigi Guagenti or Guagluti I'm not sure which is the real last name because at Ellis Island, it was Guagenti. He came to NYC, later on moving to upstate NY. He had my grandfather and became a citizen when he was 12. He died the next year at age 48. So sad. He was a tailor and had his own shop in Palermo. There are Guagenti in Palermo and surrounding areas so that's probably our real last name, not the other name.
@theSicilyAdventure wow, no way! That's crazy! There's a man who does research on family history in Caccamo, but I don't know his name or how to contact him. Do you know who he is? I want to find out more about my great grandfather. BTW, he was born 1877
Thank for sharing your experience in getting your citizenship. I have tried for more than 6 months trying to get an appointment at the Chicago consulate with no success. So, I will be going to Italy to file for citizenship as well. Still collecting documents though. ICA seems to have a very good reputation in the process.
@@randygulleyjr2180 thanks for watching. It is definitely a long process. Yours will be a different type of case then mine. Once you have the documents it shouldn't take long for you. Good luck!!
Did you check the local courts. My grandparents naturalized in the county where they lived. It took me almost a year to locate these documents through a genealogist.
We have a lot in common! My great grandfather and great grandmother both came from Corleone and came into the United States through New Orleans. My grandmother was born in Piana di Albanesi and never became a US citizen. Therefore, I was able to become an Italian citizen. I have an appointment at the consulate in Los Angeles to get my passport on July, 8. We need to communicate a lot more!

This will be our first visit to Sicily, do you know if a person has to have a tax code in order to purchase a house? Thank you, Rita
Thanks for watching. Yes you have to have the tax code. We are going this week to the Agenzia entrate office to get my wifes. What part of Sicily are you looking?
Thank you very much for your reply. We are looking into Agrigento area or Cefalu. We will be in Sicily from 17-24 this month. We were told that the tax code can be obtained in the US from a consulate, or does it have to be obtained while in Italy?
Thank you very much for answering our questions. If we get a chance maybe me and my husband can meet you and your wife for a cup of coffee. Thank you again
It’s a long process, my daughter had a lot of problems, I am an Italian citizen, everything had to be exact, they would not except Joseph as her fathers name where birth etc stated Giuseppe as our marriage certificate states Joseph etc she gave up after paying a lot , everything has to match, every little detail.
That stinks. Unfortunately you're right. It has to match. My lawyer had us sign something with all the aliases. To confirm it was all the same person. Maybe that would be an option for her.
