I’m with T-Mobile and when I’m travelling to Europe, last time In August in Italy you get unlimited text and calls in Europe plus 15 GIG of data.
Love Italy and all the culture!
@canetracker92 im joes wife: we also love all the culture shocks. Its why we sold everything and are moving to Sicily. The video was for Americans who’s haven’t traveled there. Everything thinks cause the way we title it that we are leaving Sicily because of the culture shocks. Please watch our next video. We love Sicily and plan on making this our forever home. Our house is being remodeled as we speak. New videos to come. I hope you continue to watch!
Its important to consider the culture you are coming from, for example germanic culture vs romance culture, regions specifically north vs South italy, customs, norms, and langauge english vs italian. Imagine going from Wisconsin to Uruguay without comprehensive homework? What you are experiencing is common for people unfamiliar with unwritten rules. Good luck!
@ndr226 good analogy. We know and love the culture shocks we talked about. These were for people who haven’t been to Sicily or Italy.
Thank you for giving us a glimpse of this market. Really interesting! 💕 Ciao, Carol Amato
Hope you both continue being genuine! You're teaching this Cherokee County fan a lot of new things so please keep it up!
@@amyhentz1050 thanks Amy. Thanks for watching.
One reason Italians close in the afternoon is the heat, especially in the summer. So it's understandable.
@@nuffsaid783 exactly! We know the reasons and appreciate their culture. That’s many of the reasons we are making it our home. The culture shocks are reasons we are leaving… that was to get views. The love the culture and all the things we mentioned.
What do you two just sit around and think of stuff to bitch about, good lord
@@Rekles you have a strange idea of bitching. We were simply telling people that have never been to Italy, examples of things they will find different. We love everything about Sicily and live there full time. Have you even been out of the US.
@Rekles we weren’t bitchin! That would have been a whole video on a whole other country. We love Sicily… please keep watching and you will see your initial impression was totally wrong. You have jumped to conclusions based on the title.
@@dianamartin9558 first your title said why were leaving then you started. Good luck to both of you
@@Rekles actually it says , we are leaving. Not why we are leaving. That comes in the next video.
Oh, that breakfast looks great! It's huge, but it looks very light and fluffy. 😊 I would love to visit Albania one day. Hoping your situation improves with being able to stay in Sicily. Blessings, ~ Carol Amato
P.S. Would love to see what y'all cook!
The Byrek is very buttery. The cheese is like feta and it’s so delicious. You should definitely visit. The town is walkable, food is cheap, and they have really nice people.
😂😂😂 fools
@internationale1 you have confused me by your laugh emoji. We love Sicily and all the culture shocks. We never said that’s why we are leaving. Watch the next video. We have to leave because our citizenship isn’t complete yet. The video was to get subscribers. Good lord, give us a break. We have a house being renovated in Sicily at this moment.
New subscriber, I'm from the UK and lived in northern Italy for 15 years (the lifestyle is more similar to northern Europe) but I loved many things about Italy around eating out and dress code. It would have been good for you guys to share why Italy didn't work for you (there are many things like high taxes, red tape, etc)
@chrisfaron Sicily does work for Joe and I. The culture shocks are for Americans who haven’t traveled there. We did post another video explaining this. We titled it this way to gain views. Sorry we were sneaky but RUclips doesn’t get your videos out unless they like the titles. We are new this whole thing and hope you continue to to watch. We love all the culture shocks! We have a home that is currently undergoing renovations. Please keep watching, we will be back in Sicily in November. Joes citizenship is about to get into the courts!
We already know, so we won’t ruin it for you 🎉
It is not absolutely shock. You are in a different country and their culture is different. The whole purpose of visiting a place/country is to experience the difference not to complain.
@@BC-ky7ps we were not complaining. Simply telling Americans what they can expect.
@BC-ky7ps hi this diana, joes wife, and we aren’t just visiting.., we are renovating a house. We have sold everything and are planning on living in Sicily full time. Sorry if you thought because we titled it the way we did we are leaving. Please watch our follow up video for more information. Thanks for watching!
Love it here so far. Good to meet y’all!
@@FloppyHatAdventures good meeting you guys. Hope you enjoy your time in Albania. Come see us in Sicily.

The coperto is not a tip- it’s a cover charge (coperto) to cover flatware, napkins, etc. It’s not given to the wait staff.
@claramartone60 as Joe said you can leave a euro or so. Yes, we didn’t exactly say what the coperto is for, but most Americans don’t even realize that they will be charged a coperto. And the tipping culture is way different in Sicily. They are paid a wage unlike the US where they rely on tips to make up their wage. Thanks for watching.
I was about to subscribe but your ending “no,we won’t tell you, you have to wait until the next video” turned me off. All the best. But rethink how you’re running this channel.
@@kathyspears sorry to hear that. Hope you watch our other videos and reconsider.
@kathyspears I’m Diana, joes wife, many RUclips channels end their videos this way. I’m sorry we didn’t please you. Please don’t stop watching. I love Sicily and hope to share a lot of videos in the future. We are new to this and are learning!
Before you decided to go Sicilia, did you spend time there before moving? In Italy forever, many fruit and vegetable sellers do not want their customers to handle the produce. Sicilia is extremely hot, even before the climate change, it can be extremely hot even in October. Up on the Etna, it snows. As far as the stores, years ago all the stores were closed on Sundays (by the way , it used to be like this in the US). If one stayed open on Sunday, you had to close one day during the week. Eating late is par for the course in hot climates (ergo Brazil). More often than not, people eat later, because many do not have air conditioners. It is too hot to cook, and if they have a terrace, they eat outside. The please and thank yous are not warranted, because they consider it their job. Why does it bother you that they don't rush you out. They do not expect that the table will have two or three covers a night. In fact, when you order a bottle of wine, the waiter opens it, and then you serve yourself. If you go to a fine dining restaurant in the US, they will also change the silverware after each course. Words to the wise: learn at least Italian for Travelers. Don't expect people to understand and speak English. Also, Italians hate to make mistakes when they speak, even though most people learn English. Unfortunately, Italy may not be for you, peccato.
@@patriciasandler1562 we never said these were things we didn't like. Only giving people from the US examples of things that they may find different. We've been to Italy several times. We own a house in Sicily and are going to live there full time. We love everything about Sicily. Please watch our next video to explain.
@@theSicilyAdventure Sorry for the mistake. I got the impression that you were totally dissatisfied with life in Sicily. We are Italian citizens and we are always there, but do not live there full-time , because of our age.
Awkward ...... I don't think they like it ..... the flip-flops were a difinite disappointment for them😂
@CharlesWhite-j4f sorry to disappoint you, no none of the shocks bother Joe and I. We love Sicily. We hope you keep watching. Flips only to the beach!!!!😮
@@dianamartin9558 Thanks for the response and for the video, I said "Awkward" because it was clear you were "being diplomatic" with your criticisms, which is nice, and not displaying the usual American forthrightness, which is possibly more useful !
Wait .... don't most households keep a stock of at least TWO rolls of toilet paper? Why would you need to dash to a store to buy toilet paper? I keep a stock of about 20 rolls. Thanks for your honest opinions, they are always the best.
@CharlesWhite-j4f well most people do…. But most Americans think stores are open 24/7. These shocks were for them. The only thing open in our home town in Sicily on a Sunday afternoon are bars and restaurants. I love our town and our friends. It’s a great community.
interesting to hear all these things you point out that are not in your comfort zone. So many people make the move to Italy for every reason you have listed as a negative. So sad you are having to experience these 10 things on your list as I am watching your beautiful background as your are making this video. Feels like maybe you should retire back to Minnesota where your are comfort with your surroundings and hair and food times , dress code and shopping. ..and ice and refills for your coke.
@BethLowry-o9n we never said those 10 things were why we were leaving. Did we seem mad or upset? No. It’s because they’re shocks for people who haven’t been to Sicily. We love Sicily. Those 10 things are why we have moved there. We do not miss the US or Missouri!!!!!! Hope you keep watching for more videos when we can go back after our Schengen shuffle.
It’s probably because normally, in Italian , the use of the word “shock” is in regards of something negative..plus, as you might know by now, the vast majority of the Italian people don’t speak English very well and are not able to read between the lines a language that they barely can understand in written form, let alone during a conversation…
The Walmart kids; forgetting that in yesterday's 'murika, stores were closed on Sunday, and you needed to shop in several places to supply your house.
@@dianamartin9558 Good; you had me worried there for a bit--I didn't want a 'merican invasion of Sicily; once was enough.
thanks,it sounds perfect..
@@allentabbert1272 Sicily is perfect. We love everything about it.
Pretty accurate. I quite like the way the Italians are about been too polite. They find it annoying as you say, it's there job. Regards to tipping yeah, when I have been to the US it's really hard to give something extra when you have already received the bill. But that is US culture you have to accept it when you are there. And 20% well it was 10% max in the US in the 1990's. I 1st went to Sicily in the mid 90's Palermo was a no go area, completely over run by the Costa Nostra, I then went back in 2004 and things had improved a lot thanks to the Mayor and then back again for the 3rd time in 2018 and Palermo was a reborn city the port was a dump and now people go for runs, cafes, restaurants, boats totally a transformation. Palermo seems much safer and like a culture melting pot for the size. Sicily has really improved a lot since my 1st trip. A lot of the Mafia has gone now. I was especially impressed with Noto, Syracuse completely transformed, big money injection from the North of Italy is my guess. I am from the UK. Cheers.
@ruasetpovos we loved how Palermo is lively gritty and always something to see! Thanks for your comment and watching our channel.
and.... you miss your home place 😉
