Just came across your video. I find it quite amazing at how many Americans nearing retirement are moving to Italy. This is a dream of mine as well. I'm pretty sure once there and immersed in the culture, you'll not look back. Good luck with everything.

I just subscribed, my wife and I are almost in same place as the two of you are. Yet, I am already a citizen. I just registered as an Italian citizen living abroad. My family came from Corleone and Pianna di Albenesi. I have cousins in Corleone and Casteldaccia. Keep the videos coming. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Ciao ragazzi! I'm Paul, 55, and from Wisconsin. I also live in Sicily, right now for 6 months out of the year until I am able to get an Elective Residency visa. I am just a couple miles west of you in Castellammare del Golfo. I will be returning to Sicily on June 1st and I absolutely cannot wait! Good luck with your transition to Sicily and your dual citizenship. I have Sicilian heritage as well but I'm not able to access the needed documentation due to family reasons. But hopefully the Elective Residency option will work one day soon. Perhaps we will run into each other sometime? When are you guys returning to Sicily? Ok, take care, Paul

@@dianamartin9558We are gathering our US documents ourselves (based on the Chicago consulate requirements). I was thinking about hiring an attorney for filing in Palermo through JS, BUT I found out that recently they are rejecting cases with "minor issue". Fortunately, I also have a 1948 case path that is much cleaner than my JS path. So, for now I am still trying to book an appointment with the Italian consulate in Chicago and researching attorneys that do 1948 cases. Clear as mud LOL! For the 1948 case path I have to get a CONE from USCIS and they just increased the cost to $330. But, I only need one.

@@dianamartin9558 Yes. I am working on collecting documents as required by the Chicago consulate for JS and trying to schedule an appointment. It can take months to actually get an appointment and then it will be about two years out. I did look at hiring an attorney that could file for citizenship, through JS, in Palermo. Sadly, I found out that my JS path has a "minor issue" and more recently cases are being rejected if they have minor issues. If we got rejected by the court in Palermo that would be the end of our journey and we couldn't even go through the Chicago consulate after that. Fortunately, I also have a path to citizenship through a 1948 case. This path for me is much cleaner. I am now in the process of researching attorneys that have been successful with 1948 cases.

I'm taking my wife and kids to visit Italy and my family in Ragusa, Sicily this June. I've considered citizenship several times in the past. I'd love to learn more about that process if there is anything you can share. We will be looking at property when we are there but I'm very sure it will be a cheaper process with citizenship.

The only thing that makes it cheaper is the tax. If you are going to have residency there, you don't pay the tax. We bought our house in February and have 18 months to establish residency.
