Congrats Heinrich, you've got yourself a new intern 😂 Jokes aside, wish you the best in this exciting new chapter! Great point about the slides not being actually presented. Working in M&A, we spend so much time ensuring all the key selling messages are captured in any marketing documents we create.
Yes! More slide writing! This distinction between presentations and slides being "read" reminds me of Nancy Duarte's idea about "Slide Docs" - designing slides for reading vs presenting.
Thank you! I've been defending my over-detailed, text heavy slides for years.... They're designed for exactly the reason you describe... to act as a stand alone asset beyond the life of the live presentation. Not every event is appropriate for a "key note" style deck.!
HI Heinrich !!! I am extremely happy for you and your wife! welcome to the new born :) and thank you so much for finding the time to prepare these lovely video for us even if a lot is goiong on in your life !!!
Congratulations to you for becoming a father. May God Bless the family. Please continue your RUclips presentation. I took your course in Udemy and I really found it very useful. Excellent course!
Heinrich - would you recommend a good Excel course specifically focused on Consulting skills, e.g. excel modeling, etc? FYI your course for CEO presentations is simply fantastic!
Hi Jose, thank you :) There are of course lots of helpful Excel resources available online, but no single course that I can recommend. Indeed planning to create an Excel course similar to the Slide Writing one in the future, so stay tuned :) (no release date yet though). Best, Heinrich
Congrats on your news Heinrich! And thanks for clarifying a point of confusion for me about slide decks. I find it quicker and easier to use MS Word for reports but consultants like lots of fancy pictures and icons :)
Thanks Alistair :) Indeed, in many situations, text reports in Word could have been used as well. It just seems to be conventional that consultants and also many other businesses prefer to use slides. Best! Heinrich
Congratulations on beoming a father Heinrich! Very clear video again. I'm just wondering what you present during the final meeting as you don't provide any new information to the client. What then is the added value of such a final meeting besides social interactions?
Thank you Marijn! :) These meetings are indeed often about social interactions - getting live feedback from the different stakeholders, discussing points in person etc. Best! Heinrich
Congratulations Heinrich! I wish you a smooth transition. And to your child a healthy and happy life. I would expect a video soon about how to apply the 80/20 for remote work while being a new father :)
@@FirmLearning How often do use behavioral science and techniques like nudging in a consultant job? With the virtual workplace booming, how effective do you think algorithmic nudging will help in pivoting things the way you like?
Congratulations Heinrich on being a father. Wish you and your family great health. The quality of your content is great and systematic. Thank you for that. I would like to know if you are planning to create content on Microsoft Word. Are there any best practices you can share with us based on your experience at McKinsey? Also, while at McKinsey have you worked with Indians?
Hi Vithesh, thanks for your comment. Also great suggestion for MS Word / some tips on how to structure memos and other types of documents of this format. Might pick this up in future videos! Never did a project in India, but yes, worked together with colleagues from the Indian office on some occasions. Best! Heinrich

In "The McKinsey Mind" the author writes that everything in McKinsey work would evolve around the question "How can I organize this [information/problem]?". And that you always want to break a problem down with frameworks so that you can put it into three, four boxes. Could you make a video on frameworks used at McKinsey, that the author is refering to? Maybe you could survey your viewers in the next vid whether they are interested in it as well. Nice content!
_The McKinsey Mind_ is not accurate anymore. It's a generic, outdated way of thinking and most of all, it's just an ad for TheFirm. Good for you if you take any value from it, me not.
Congratulations on your parenthood! And greetings from Panama 🇵🇦 I like your channel very much already subscribed. But other than that which is your favorite German football team?
Hi Daniel, thank you, much appreciated! Giving that I am living in Munich for quite some time now, it is difficult not to cheer for Bayern ;) Not a fanatic though. Best! Heinrich
Your channel should be required learning for all college grads before they enter the workforce. There is an excellent book that talks about this called Advanced Presentations by Design by Andrew Abella (also ex McK) that talks about this. Highly recommended book.
Hi Heinrich, can you please do a video on tips to do well in a group case study. Essentially that is when a group of 4 to 5 candidates are given a topic to work on together and prepare a deck in 2 to 3 hours. I imagine the purpose of such a round is to see how you work in a team.
Hi, thanks for your comment. Yes indeed already have a video about such "assessment center" type of situations on my idea list :) Stay tuned! Best, Heinrich
Congrats Heinrich! It's a life-changing moment ha! seems our channel can also share some life experience as additional content;) By the way, regarding to the last episode, will consulting firms focus on university ranking or specific uni majors? Thanks!
Thanks for watching and your comment William! :) Yes, coming from a top ranked / target university will help, though it is not a hard must. In general, especially MBB firms make it a point to hire people from all majors (including "exotic" ones like Philosophy, Music etc.) I do think that you have an advantage if you study a more quantitative discipline though, most people at MBB have such a background. Best! Heinrich
@@FirmLearning Thanks for your honest reply. I have to say quantitative approaches are quite challenging for me, so I'm learning some analytics softwares and trying to get certified. Hope that would be an effective shortcut to catch up with others😂.
Very insightful, but I have a doubt. If such slides are meant to be printed for reference for the audience, then how r these different from a concise word document?
Hi Anmol, yes fully agree. In many situations, text reports in Word could have been used as well. It just seems to be conventional that consultants and also many other businesses prefer to use slides. Best! Heinrich

Thanks! At the moment it rather feels like I am her intern ;) Thanks for sharing, makes sense! Best, Heinrich
