- Welcome back to the Channel this week! We’ve got some exciting things Happening here in Orange Beach Alabama. It’s The Wharf Boat Show in Orange Beach as well as SPRING BREAK across the country. The Ramps are fixing to be packed and so people are getting out for the first time of the season. These clowns never cease to amaze me.

Big Dan, Glad to hear your comments on the Suzuki outboards. we just ordered a new Avalon pontoon boat with a Suzuki, motor and have heard similar comments from the dealer, but its nice to hear from an objective source. thanks and keep the videos coming! The current was evident from the pontoon. You can see the SH coming in and the current took his a little port. He did a great job correcting!
Current was less than 1kt. Wind was busy though

Another great video and.the first one was the best. Good thing you are not in my area for Florida. I would have made the channel this weekend. Had my hub blow out at the ramp this weekend for no reason. Oh well things happen. 😅

Best advice I got for backing down a ramp was from an old-timer. Said to put the tailgate down and watch closer to the tounge of the trailer than the guides.

My wife is always shaking her head at me and my kid tries to ignore me as I'm screaming at my tv when I watch your videos because there's someone, typically not a man, who doesn't know how to back a trailer. So my wife and kid get to hear, "TURN LEFT, TURN LEFT, BACK IT UP, STRAIGHTEN IT OUT, STOP TURNING RIGHT, WHAT'RE YOU DOING!!! PULL OUT, BACK STRAIGHT, STOP TURNING!!!!!"

@@TheBigDanShow in all honesty though, I owned a sweet little 16', 1971 (don't remember the name of it), fiberglass boat with a 90hp outboard on it...and because i;
1) never drove a boat onto a boat trailer before owning a boat
2) feared crunching the hull or doing something stupid and hurting the boat because of number 1
...I was the guy getting out of the boat and pulling it onto the trailer.
And because the engine never ran right, I sold it back to the guy I bought it from. I was told that the 90hp engine was powerful enough to flip that boat over but it never performed like that for me. I sold it back, told him if he gets it fixed then I'd buy it back because I was under the impression I was buying a turnkey boat.
That thing would constantly leave me and sometimes my daughter and I stranded in the middle of Lake Washington because it would shut off and not restart..or if I turned it off it didn't like to restart. It screwed me st the boat launch too for 90 minutes trying to get it running. I stayed out of the way as much as possible but that boat launch was in a ritzy neighborhood and was always super busy.

I'm a new boater this shiot ain't easy😂. Boats don't drive like a car. They don't like slow maneuvers with currents pulling and pushing them. They tend to develop an attitude 😂 and the dock and ramps become like magnets 😅

I like the Captain Chairs on that one pontoon boat.
I own a pontoon hardest boat to load especially when wind blowing.
I wouldn’t say hardest but with a stiff wind, they can be a little tricky
I like the ramps here there not 10 miles long and step as Mt Rushmore.

The problem I keep seeing with new boaters is they buy a big boat having no experience with any kind of boat . Years ago it seemed most people would start out with smaller boats as kids or teens and work up to progressively bigger boats as they could afford it gaining valuable experience along the way . I had an older coworker who decided he was going to get a boat and start boating . I suggested he take the Coast Guard boating course which he scoffed at . He was driving at speed and accidentally discovered what the transom trim tab controls did and scared the heck out of him when his boat hooked abruptly to the right .

we put in at a boat ramp called duvall landing here in tennessee. its over a150yds ramp these people would never get to take there boats out!
I've seen a lot of Suzuki's on big water boats. I've seen more Yamaha's on bass boats and Fish&Ski boats. Mine has a Yamaha.

A skilled captain should be able to slowly and in a controlled manner turn his boat around 360 in not much more than the length of his/her vessel. It takes practice but with light throttle and proper application of rudder it isn’t difficult with minimal drift/set even on a single screw vessel.

Rudder is a term not used enough on modern single outboard boats. With little forward motion in neutral the outboard can still be used to steer boat like a rudder. Very good skill for docking.

I almost always launch by myself and have perfected de-trailering to a fairly simple task.
Wife is decent at reversing truck and paying attention to my signals. Going on 36 years with her, we have an understanding, 😂.
Doesn’t matter if your channel subscriber people are people doesn’t matter how much experience you got you can still fuck up
