Fun story about The Little Mermaid: It was the first movie I ever saw in theaters in 1989. I was so excited to go to a MOVIE THEATER and the experience is forever engrained in my mind. But because I was very young, I remember being absolutely terrified of the moment when King Triton destroys Ariel's Eric statue, collection of trinkets, etc. For whatever reason, I thought Ariel was killed by her dad, and I hid in my seat for the rest of the film, frozen in fear. Fast forward to the movie being released on videotape. I was older at this point, probably 4 or 5. When I watched it at home, I couldn't believe they changed the movie so that the killing never occurred. I continued to tell people until I was 12 that sometimes if movies are really scary and kids don't like them, they change it before it is released on videotape. I realized much later that my mind misinterpreted that moment because of my young age. 🤣 ANYWAY, I LOOOOVE your collection! Seeing these dolls took me right back to the good old days!
Poor childhood you! 😂 that is such a terrifying concept to be introduced to at that age, even if it was a misinterpretation.
My grandma and my aunt took me to watch The Little Mermaid when it was first released. It is the first movie I remember seeing in a movie theater. So began my obsession with Ariel and mermaids. ❤️

Totally understandable! 😂 I saw it back then around the same ages, also. I regret giving away my little mermaid poster. My daughter is actually named Ariel but not necessarily after her!!

So amazing. I was born in October 1989 and the little mermaid came out in November 1989. Ariel holds a very dear place to my heart because she’s my earliest childhood memory. I love your collection ❤
I'm so impressed by just how many of those dolls are quality. When I think of anything but disney store dolls, I just imagine bad quality and weak designs. So many of these were stunning!! We didn't have much money growing up, so I found a redheaded mermaid doll (that wasn't ariel!) at the charity shop and just pretended lol. I told my mom that I wanted to be a mermaid like Ariel and she was like "it's dark in the ocean--you wouldn't be able to see." 😂
EDIT: I did some digging and found out the doll was MGA’s swimming little mermaid doll. I didn’t even know this doll line was a thing!
Fun fact: The song "Part of your world" was almost cut from the official release of the film, because it was thought to be too slow paced to hold young audiences' attention, but test audiences loved it so the powers that be decided to keep the scene in the final film.

Ariel is one of my absolute favorites too!! I love the Disney Store dolls - I just hate their obsession with cheap, stiffening glitter that gets on everything 😂

Ariel is life to me, she is my queen.
My dad (RIP) took me to see T.L.M when it was originally released in ‘89 for my 7th birthday, it was just him and me, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. And now with my Daddy passing the daddy/daughter thing is even more special. But we had a much better relationship than Ariel and King T, my Daddy didn’t get to meet my husband.

What´s amazing about The Little Mermaid is precisely that it came out in 1989. I say this because the movie has a unique obscure/dark atmosphere that was prevalent in children´s films of that decade: The Last Unicorn, The Secret of N.I.M.H. ...

I love Ariel! The Little Mermaid was my favorite fairytale as a child. I read it over and over again. I was so excited when Disney did the movie! I just got my first Ariel doll from the Disney store last weekend. She was my mother's day gift to myself 💜

Usually I do not like Ariel 90s dolls but there are two mattel dolls that I love which are Ariel wedding doll from 1997 and special edition aqua fantasy. They are beautiful 😍
I remember when I saw The Little Mermaid and how it made me feel especially being of West Indian heritage. I was so infatuated with Ariel. I dressed as her for Halloween. I quickly felt awkward because I am indigenous aka dark skinned and the kids at school told me I chose the wrong costume. Now I know with having West Indian Heritage I fit with her more ways than none. The Triton is Barbados, my family is there too but I am Jamaican. Amazing Collection!

I remember once having an Ariel doll that could sing and had Sebastian's crab in the set, a green dress and a mermaid tail. I also remember that she had beautiful, soft hair. I adored her but I don't remember which year she was.

The Little Mermaid had a spin-off in the 2000s call to return to the Sea Ariel becomes Queen and have a daughter named MelodyAriel appears as an adult in Return to the Sea and gives birth to a daughter named Melody, becoming the first, and currently, only, Disney princess to become a mother. Ariel is protective of her daughter, as Triton was of Ariel in the first film.
This is a great collection!!! Ariel along with Moana are probably my favorite Princesses.
The only Ariel doll I had growing up is not in this collection she was made by Mattel, had a purple shell crown, a high pony, and a back trail on her tail. I also had a little mermaid carriage that would light up and was pulled by dolphins. I have not seen a collector yet who had the doll and carriage I had.

there is a Hasbro rainbow magic Ariel doll in mermaid form, it’s the only one that has a fish-like tail and not just some material over human legs (or worse - a tail that bends like legs). it’s the most accurate mermaid tail i’ve seen on any of the barbie-like mermaid dolls

I definitely had the first Ariel doll you showed but i dont remember it much except for the doll otself with the crown and the top and then the weird "foot" fin part of the tail but only vaguely, like super vaguely lol i was only 2 the year it came out tho so that makes sense but i remember still having the doll and the top with the starfish long long into my barbie owning days lol

I'd like to see Jasmine and Pocahontas. I never had a Jasmine growing up, but always loved that Disney princess. My all time favorites are Pocahontas and Mulan. for sure.

Ahhh I had the second doll as a kid! She was one of my favorite dolls I had, and I specifically remember playing with her in the bath (with her tail dress thing) and when I pulled the plug and the water started draining her tail part went down the drain (ᗒᗩᗕ) I was so upset and begged my parents to do something but it was gone, I was always too anxious to take toys into the tub again lol
1995 Ariel from Mattel. She has a pretty face mold that looks like the movie is proportioned better than the previous models. Loved her but don't have the doll anymore

That's a awesome collection of The Little Mermaid Merchandise. I was born in March 28, 1994 and the song : Part of Your World is an awesome song and I love it better than There You'll Be by Faith Hill, because Part of Your World is more of a relieved song to me and in my household, I turned that song every other day when they're times when I'm gloomy. My favorite Ariel is the Tyco one with the longest flowing thick hair that goes down to her toes. The Simba one is also awesome since they're look more movie accurate and prettier after the MATTEL one's. The Simba one I like the one with also the longer hair and the basic one in her high ponytail Ariana Grande style look. but I think when I take off the elastic band once, her hair would be longer ..... that is why it's a bit disappointed that Ariel has almost like medium length hair, it's just because her hair is just tied up that high ponytail. Awesome collection of Ariel dolls 😍 oh anyway, I can't believe you've already have another Ariel with the longest flowing thick hair I've mention last 2016, and it's been 6 years ago she is called Long Haired Ariel that she comes with a seahorse green hair comb brush with a braided extension tied and seashell clips. She'd come out in the millennium of 2000, her hair color is more of a bright scarlet orange unlike the other one with a crown 👑 the other Ariel doll has more of a deep ruby burgundy wine color.
Finally someone else is agree with me that Simba's Ariel dolls are MORE movie accurate than Mattel ones
But i'm curious to see if Mattel in 2023 will be able to do better
