To be fair, most people forget that there was loads of additional dialogue and scenes that D&D added in the early seasons, many of which are iconic. They didn't just copy and paste the dialogue. And most of Season 6's dialogue was not from a book (the average person loved it at the time). Off the top of my head, Lady Olenna's dialogue in her final scene in Season 7 was easily better than anything in this episode (and Cersei's dialogue before leaving the remaining Sandsnakes to die in the cellar). *They messed up but we should look at things in a nuanced way.* The majority of adaptations of good works are absolutely terrible.
But yeah, I don't think D&D could write something like this, with no dialogue to even start from. I was impressed with the first episode and hope It stays this good.

    • @michaelhenman8683
      @michaelhenman8683 Год назад

I will add the caveat that most of the dialogue from early GoT wasn't copied directly. It was very much adapted, mostly by modernising it and making it a little more punchy, since dialogue in the books could be extremely longwinded. But still that is a much easier job than making dialogue from scratch.

His insults towards Viserys loss of his wife and son seems to come from the fact he is hurt that his brother doesn’t trust him to be his hand. He cares about his brother and like he said he sees the small council for what they truly desire and feels he is the only one that can protect Viserys. He honestly is my favorite character so far

Daemon is anti-hero. Very grey character like Jaime Lannister or the Hound.
Daemon is right about Otto being untrustworthy but Daemon is a loose cannon who should not be in a position of power.
Viserys tries to keep the peace and Daemon is a serious threat to that peace. Now more than ever since he is no longer the heir.
I do feel like Daemon loves Viserys and wants to protect him. I dont think Daemon wants to start a civil war against his brother

You've basically hit the nail on the head with who Daemon is, coming from a book reader. The problem with Supercuts saying he doesn't want Daemon portrayed as a villain is that Daemon is not a good person and does some quite terrible things across the series. It's impossible to avoid those things. I think people coming into this show need to avoid wanting their favourites to be good people, and need to avoid using terms like "protagonist" and "antagonist" as a synonym for morally "good" and "bad". From anyone who has read Fire & Blood, they will know that many of the characters will not fit into these two categories, and that is how people act in real life. I think basically every character is a deuteragonist, and the show has been and will be compelling because of how their relationships between each other and throughout the plot change.

It hits harder because u hate them so much just to find out they’re actually justified in their actions and makes u as a viewer feel like a bad person for hating them without context. A prime example is Jaime. He’s a cocky douchebag that killed the king with a stab to the back cause he’s a coward. Then u find out he’s not actually a coward because he killed the king to save all of the ppl in the city from being massacred by wildfire.
I live my life judging the character of ppl I meet for myself and not listening to what other ppl have to say about them before I meet them. We have to stop comparing this one episode to all of game of thrones/season 1 of game of thrones. Camera work and production was different then, so it makes sense to take advantage of cinematography present day. A lot of the dialogue was taken from Fire and Blood and the dialogue felt very Westeros. The intimate settings, we are going to get plenty of as they aren’t solely doing cgi. They have been filming in similar lands as they did in GoT. The difference is the magic in this show isn’t a secret, so there’s no slow burn to it which would put in place more scenes in intimate settings. 3:56 it’s not Daenerys’s leitmotif playing when we see Rhaenyra on her dragon. It’s the dragon leitmotif. Dany and her dragons have two distinct musical themes - you hear the dragon leitmotif whenever the dragons are around, and Dany’s leitmotif in other contexts, like the Mhysa scene at the end of season 3, the finale of season 1, and when Dany burns the Khals in season 5, etc etc. I don’t imagine Djawadi will bring back Dany’s theme in House of the Dragon, but I think it is understandable that we will hear the dragon leitmotif and see it develop in new and interesting ways in this story. Musical storytelling is important, and since the dragons are the focus of this show, to me it makes sense to carry over the musical idea we most associate with them.

Just to say about Daenerys' theme, it's not really HER theme. It's the Targaryan house theme. If you notice, each house has their own theme. The Starks, Aryns, Lannisters, Martels and Tyrells all have their own respective themes. You just see Daenerys followed by the Targaryan theme because she is technically the only Targaryan that we knew of. The only individuals I'd say that had their very own Leit Motifs (character themes) in Game of Thrones would be Petyr Baelish/Littlefinger, Dany's three dragons and Lyanna and Rheagar's love. The rest are all focusing on the families, not the individual characters.

Arya's desire to be a knight, warrior, travel is distorted by her deep desire to inflict vengeance on those who wronged her family later on. I really enjoyed the episode, for a pilot episode and having to introduce many key characters and reintroduce the audience to the world in such a different time, I think it did a good job at that. I really enjoy the characters and how they're not so cut and dry, like Daemon being a bit of a tool but Viserys siding with him on the city guard, Otto Hightower acting as hand of the king as well as seeking to elevate position through his daughter and using the king's suffering, it's such a cool start and I hope all that continues.
Admittedly, the birthing scene was difficult to watch, but that was the point, so well done. The one thing that perhaps didn't sit great with me was Viserys talking to Rhaenyra about the song of Ice and fire. I did expect we'd get bits and pieces like this since the targaryens are about as entrenched in prophesy as they are inbred, but this one in particular seemed a little bit convenient for what we already know, especially since we know how underwhelming it actually ends up being. Otherwise, I'm very on board with this so far

  • @AllenAbbadonia

Respectfully, I think everything you said was perfectly on point until you brought up the birth scene.
As someone who hasn't read the books and not watched all of GoT, it did at times become difficult to know who was who. I think rewatching it would let me find out better though, and I don't mind being thrown right into the atmosphere.
Additionally, Daemon has some interesting scenes with the king, but aside from that is coming off pretty strong to me as a villain. I'd like to see more of his personal development come through to make up for the gold cloak situation.
I understand that it has a different feeling for everyone, but as a woman, there are very few horrors greater than what was displayed in this scene.
There is absolutely not a singular spark of feeling, anywhere in me, for the king now. Nothing. Nothing he says about his mourning matters. He doesn't deserve to mourn. No feeling he displays relevant to them matters. He betrayed his wife in one of the most horrific and vulnerable spaces you ever could. His entire development is gone for me now.
She was coherent, speaking to him. She wasn't dying, or flailing, or anything like that. By all means, there was no reason to LITERALLY MURDER her. He was impossibly selfish and deserved to lose them for it. She wanted to live, clearly.
They could have done away with the traumaporn aspect by having him speak to a dazed queen who wanted desperately for him to save their child. Unfortunately, they didn't. I don't have WORDS to express the brutality of it. It doesn't matter what he does after this because he can never ever be seen as anything other than one of the vilest men who would betray his loving wife at a time when she needs him and that protection most.
Her scene with Rhaenyra rings in my mind as a reminder of historic horror. This is what people think we are for. We are not people to them. We are only birthing machines. If that is what this was meant to carry, it did so excellently, and it certainly SEEMS to convey some of that message!
The scene itself and the acting and everything is WONDERFUL, but it looks like they somehow still expected us to... what? feel bad for him? In some of the interviews they discussed him being a good man but a bad king, but it isn't ever possible for him to be a "good man" now. I just don't think they realized the actual horror of what he did, and somehow that is worse than the character doing it. That they could write it and think it ever possible to look beyond again.
This is a very long comment but I'm interested in seeing if anyone else feels this way... like. It's simply not possible to move him beyond this for me.

I totally agree. He is unforgivable, his grief meaningless. It hurts him because he ordered the murder of his wife. The writers have said his punishment is coming for this choice.
Aemma could have been saved, the baby sacrificed and removed from her. If not that, as he wants the heir, there are methods to turn the baby internally in breech, medieval methods, that midwives knew. Even talking to his wife, telling her what she has to do for the babys life and letting her accept it would have been better. Offering her a large dose of poppy milk and operating once she fell asleep could have been tried. Anything but cold blooded, restrained murder. He is a murderer, and I look forward to his punishment. It was an unbearable scene to watch for any woman. It may be a fictional example but my soul weeps for the female ancestors who came before us.
