Thanks for the video. I get asked this at least once a week. Now I can just point them to a video.
Another useful difference between the two is that the CM2 has a shorter angular displacement which reduces excessive throw with large extensions.

Also want to point out you cost me a lot of money in the last year or so. Your Monstertech and virpil videos were instrumental in my decisions to replace my Obutto with a full Monstertech sim pit as well as my transition from TM (been using them since the 90s) to virpil. I now have all of their right handed grips, a CM2 throttle and two warBrd bases.

Thanks for putting this vid together, I agonised over which base to order, and ended up getting the WarBRD based on the assumption that the CM2 was primarily for mounting and the WarBRD was for desk use. Couldn't figure out why the price was so different, so this vid really helped explain it. Still waiting on my backorder to be processed, but at least I know I've got the right base for me on the way. :-)

I know it's late, but you missed one of the biggest differences. The WarBRD has a larger range of motion. It works really well with their 200mm gooseneck extension extension in a custom mount\cockpit. It gives a very realistic range of motion. They warn about using that combo with their mounts though, something about smacking your desk.

Currently in the process of swapping over from my longtime Warthog setup to one the incorporates the WarBRD, simple answer why I chose the WarBRD over the CM2. My mate had a spare WarBRD that he offered me at a price I really couldn’t say no to. ( less the £80 ]. While I absolutely adore the Warthog and I’ve had one since they very first came out, now on my 2nd, I have heard over and over again how the feel of the WarBRD is significantly better than the Warthog. Personally I don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve taken a gamble and will hopefully find out in the next few days.
Just in the process of drilling and mounting the Virpil mounting bracket to a wheel stand pro mount that’s designed for a warthog.
I’ve gone for the strong springs with the avicams that I hope will provide me with the best feel. I did also purchase the extra strong springs, due to the weight of the TM stick, but that felt Too heavy, on very basic testing. ( hand moving it with the springs installed as it isn’t setup on system yet )
Overall it looks and feels like a quality product, the only thing I don’t really like is the feel of the connection inside the gimble while I’m swapping the stick heads over, which I do frequently depending on what type of aircraft I’m flying. It feels extremely flimsy and I’m worried it will snap after a bit of use, not to mention now and again, the pin connector sometimes gets pushed down into the base, resulting in me having to dismantle everything to try and get the darn thing back in place where it will connect to the stick. Unlike the TM connector, which is solid and it doesn’t matter how quick you attempt to swap the stick over, it just works perfectly each time.
Currently will be using it with the TM A10 and F18 sticks and the Virpil VFX ( F14 replica )
Hopefully I won’t regret my choice to swap over to the Virpil, but it is an easy swap back to the TM If needed

      @KevinS47 Год назад

Hi, from your experience would you say that mounting a 200mm extension on the warBRD base is ok or is the travel distance from extreme left/back to extreme right/forward too big of a problem? (assuming you tried mounting the 200mm extension on the warBRD base too)
I would like a center mounted stick while spending the least, but I am afraid that the warBRD with the 200mm extension will suck due to the huge travel distance of the stick and end up hitting my legs before reaching the extremes of the travel distance..

I recently bought the WarBRD, and it is an amazing piece of equipment for desktop use. As it is cheaper and modular (fits most of the sticks in the market), you can get into high-end sim gear more easily and the plate really helps because you don't have to buy more equipment than needed for it to function out of the box.

Key phrase: "if you can get them." It's a shame that a company with such great products won't communicate with customers (or prospective customers willing to drop serious cash) other than randomly updating a forum page. Their prices are high enough that people should at least get an explanation of the delays in their supply chain.

VIRPIL Controls - Ordering & Webstore
By Cypher, April 28 in News & Announcements
      Hello VIRPILs!
We have been monitoring the discussions regarding our webstore and ordering process, in light of this we wanted to address some of the concerns and suggestions that have been brought up by the community.
      Ordering Process & Availability
As many are now acutely aware, our primary order process involves a frequent restock which occurs generally every 1-2 weeks being made available at a set time on our webstore.
While we have been able to significantly increase our production capacity over time, we have also extended our product catalogue and the general demand for VIRPIL Controls products has also increased dramatically as more people become aware of our products. This has led to us quickly selling out in short periods of time after the store restock.
We understand that this is certainly not ideal, and there are people who are calling for pre-ordering to be available permanently on our store.
We absolutely want to make the ordering process as smooth as possible, this benefits us just as much as it benefits the community. However we feel very strongly that pre-ordering is not the answer in this case.
There are unfortunately a huge number of logistical considerations and complications when offering pre-orders. It is something that needs to be closely monitored and controlled, which is made impossible by offering catalogue wide pre-ordering around the clock. Both ourselves and our customers have been drastically affected by the negatives of this ordering process regarding pre-orders taken back in November 2019. Due to unforeseen circumstances with the Covid-19 outbreak these pre-orders have been significantly delayed causing increased strain on our operations and disappointment for our customers.
There are also a number of factors outside of our control regarding pre-orders such as with our payment processors. Strict control is enforced over the acceptance of pre-orders due to the difficulty involved with this process and as such, offering catalogue wide pre-orders 24/7 simply is not an option.
Based on community feedback, we initially began allowing limited time pre-orders on the release of a new product, however due to said restrictions we were only able to offer bank transfer as a payment option. This proved to be inconvenient and led to many issues. Due to further community feedback, we began working closely with our payment processor to allow online card payment for these limited pre-orders, something which is typically not possible!
However, upon reviewing the recent events it is unlikely that we will return to pre-ordering even for the release of future new products. The recent difficulties we’ve encountered to complete existing pre-orders has caused significant negative feedback and we certainly do not want to repeat this. As such we feel it is the most honest option to only accept the obligations we can readily fulfill.
We have also seen criticisms to simply increase production - we hope that it can be considered that we actually already operate our own dedicated production factory running at high capacity. As previously mentioned, while our production capacity has grown significantly, our product lineup and demand has also grown significantly along with it. This may cause some to believe we simply haven’t grown up since when we first started, but we can assure you that is not the case!
Aggressively increasing production to increase our capacity multiple times over would require a huge financial injection which could be achieved by increasing prices. However, we maintain that we want to offer high quality, high performance controllers at the best prices we can.
When we first entered the market in 2016, we were immediately pitted against firms who have been operating for over 10 years. We have been excited to take on this challenge to offer a better, wider selection of products to the community. We have carefully planned our operations to ensure stability and growth allowing us to rise from what was seemingly a pipe dream in 2016, to a global brand with dedicated production facilities and a complete range of products from joysticks, throttles, rudder pedals and accessories in 2020.
We are working to rapidly expand our product lineup, now offering an assortment only few in the market can boast. This year, even in light of the difficulties faced, our ambitious team will continue to develop and expand this assortment.
      Webstore Performance
As with the increased demand for our products, our webstore has gone through a number of upgrades behind the scenes over time. But more evidently than ever, especially over the last 2 restocks, there have been flashbacks to our earlier days with the webstore cutting out entirely under the increased traffic we’ve encountered recently.
We are now working towards a complete overhaul of our webstore backend to dramatically increase the performance and response time even during these times of peak demand. This is something that will be rolled out after testing.
We are also investigating other changes to our webstore to prevent some recurring issues which are a side effect of the high user traffic at anyone time - including stock being taken from a basket without giving a chance to complete the checkout.
Based on this feedback we are testing for stock to be reserved within the basket which gives time to complete the checkout. If the checkout is not completed within a set time period, the stock will be released back to the store for someone else.
We will also be improving the checkout process by removing the multiple separate pages, as well as implementing PayPal Express checkout - both of these changes should significantly increase the speed at which the checkout can be completed.
A further announcement will be posted when these changes are live and we look forward to hearing feedback on these changes. We will continue to grow and focus on how we can best serve the community and get flight simulator controllers of every type into everyone’s hands as smoothly, easily and quickly as possible!
We hope that transparency on the issue can help shed some light on the challenges experienced, and the improvements that are currently underway regarding the situation with ordering from VIRPIL Controls.
We want everyone to know that your feedback and comments are closely monitored - it is as much in our interest to address all the feedback we can as it is in yours!
Without the help, support and guidance from the community, VIRPIL Controls would still be the same pipe dream it was back in 2016 and before. For that, the entire VIRPIL Controls team are incredibly grateful!
We hope that everyone is staying healthy and safe during these uncertain times and that everyone is still able to log in flight hours with their favourite sims and VIRPIL Controls gear!
      Best Regards,
      Andrei Lukyanov
      VIRPIL Controls CEO

@@deadshot4245 Yes I did get the Alpha grip and it is fantastic. Paired with the CM2 throttle, and a set of Warbird rudder pedals, it is very very very satisfying to fly (keep in mind, I upgraded from a Logitech 3d Pro). I found the Alpha grip has more than enough buttons and options to easily handle all of the essential functions for DCS aircraft in terms of the stick side of HOTAS. The CM2 also has more buttons and axis available so you don't need to be too creative with bindings. I only wish I could use my Virpil kit more than I do (I'm away from home 2 months at a time). A friend of mine has the T16000M and it is a good option, but does not sit in the same league as the Virpil stuff. Adjustable springs and cams with your bases, and very high quality finishing. I do not have a single thing to complain about with my kit. I had no issues what so ever in setting up the kit with the native Virpil software (but I had watched alot of youtube content before hand). I have tried to follow the layout of the real aircraft HOTAS (ie F-16, F-18, A-10)... on my kit but kept things like flaps, gear the same throughout the modules. You cannot go wrong with the Virpil stuff.

I defiantly hope to purchase a lot of the Virpil products just because of the insane build quality and comfort in each product. There is definitely a reason why many people love them and why they sell out so quickly. Hopefully, when this pandemic is over I can save up some extra money and actually go out and buy my first product from them if they restock. Meanwhile ill just binge-watch a bunch of reviews on their stuff and hype myself up for the time I actually get my own.

I have a WarBRD grip on a WarBRD base, I'm hoping the new Constellation Alpha grip comes out one day soon in quantities enough that I can get one. I'm also waiting on the new throttle.
With as many people as want their products, you'd think they'd fight to meet production, or find a way to lock in purchases so they can more accurately schedule production numbers. I'm sure many would be willing to pre-purchase so long as they are guaranteed a product from the next production run. When I tried to pre-purchase the Alpha grip, I was turned off that they couldnt take my money via Pay-Pal and that they were asking me to telegraph them the money or something (I forget the specifics now).

They actually addressed this not too long ago. Unfortunately, they are still a small business and quality parts and construction take time. I'd rather they stay their course in prioritizing quality rather than outsourcing to meet demand. The only alternative would be to hike prices to sustain a profit margin for more production, but the owner is committed to keeping them priced as affordably as he can. Honestly I'd do the same in his position, 10/10 good business practice in my opinion.

I've had both. The CM2 has a design flaw with asymmetrical forces on some cams. WarBRD with extra heavy springs and a 200mm extension is my choice for flight sims. I drop the extension and go to light springs for space sims. I prefer non linear forces as it's far easier to develop consistent muscle memory with force+position over just position. If they update the CM2 cams I may give it another go. I'm slightly disappointed you didn't catch this flaw in your CM2 review, it seems it exists across everyone's "soft center ava sim" cams.

Can we get an update for this with CM3 vs WarBRD-D?
My personal experience is with the WarBRD and the Gunfighter III from VKB. To me the original WarBRD was super bouncy, due to lack of dry clutch (which is why I went to GFIII), but it's the only base I've used with a true "no-center" cam which I feel is amazing for aiming in Star Citizen.
I'm wondering if WarBRD-D with the dry clutch still has the same awesome no-center feel, while also having a nice dampened movements. Second, is the CM3 also able to provide a good no-center feel? Or is this something that you can really only do with a Dual-Cam per axis design? I know from VKB's soft center cams, that soft (and likely no) center cams + Dry Clutch on a single-cam design can lead to re-centering issues. Wondering if you've experienced this on either of the Virpil bases.

Both bases are going to probably out live you if you don't abuse them. I would imagine you could repair any if needed from a local hardware store. It says in their description that the CM2 has less travel than a Warbird. I have the Warbirds (with no extensions) and they are very sensitive and accurate to input with a good amount of travel (travel is very similar if not the same as any Saitek stick I have played with). They are well stiff enough (in their default build) to tire my hands and wrists in about 20 mins. It comes down to how much and how hard you wanna throw the stick around to move in game. The Warbirds have a little lower profile and a plate for desktop mounting. CM2's in any mounting config would take a little more hardware to work with a desk.

Been trying to get a full HOTAS with pedals from Virpil ever since you debuted their products on your RUclips show. More availability is needed or they need to start taking pre-orders as I literally cannot get to them fast enough to buy before they are sold out which tells me their restock emails are completely pointless. The answer is sustainability. If they were to massively expand to meet production then they would go bankrupt when the bubble burst. Most customers will buy from them once and then never again. If they ramp up production too high then they will kill demand for their products whilst having the costs of running an over-sized factory. They are being very responsible with how they are running their company.

By support I assume you mean find and hold 0 center.
I can say that the stock Warbird can do this with a Delta on it. So I would assume also the CM2 can since it can be adjusted to be stiffer if needed.
Interesting setup idea you have there. Think it might be fairly comfortable for old shoulders.

If so, don't snag the cord with your foot. Done it myself a few times.
