I ordered a Virpil WarBRD in September of 2019, along with a T-50CM2 grip and Delta secondhand online, and it has remained one of my favourite peripherals I use in sims. I later expanded my kit to include a CM2 Throttle, and an Alpha grip and they are rock solid, mounted to my desk using Virpil's own desk mounts. Virpil gained a customer for life when I got that WarBRD, and I don't think I'll ever need or want to use any other brand for my flight/space sim needs.
Ordered 2 of these babies today to upgrade my first gen WarBrds. My old set is going to a friend of mine so i know they will be in good hands. And he is going to have as much fun as i had with them in Star Citizen. Win-Win for both of us i guess :-) Virpil has never let me down, neither their products nor their support. Both are fantastic. And I assume that the new WarBrds will not disappoint me either.
I was going to go for the cm3 but now leaning toward this one. Noob did mention it doesn’t work great with extensions which I think would be needed for helis, to give it a more cyclic feel. Interesting to see how it works out for you 😊
I have the CM3 with a 200 extension and think it’s great for helicopters. I think the range of travel may be too excessive with the Warbird D and an extension. I’m still on the fence about dead stick when the default cams and springs are connected as the force required to push the stick is much greater so it is less precise. At some point I may disconnect the cams completely as Noob did in his video. I’m tempted to get one of these due to the current sale but really want a collective as well.
Great videos man, truly. Thank you. I am buying Alpha Primes after your content described the improvements over the standard Alpha. Virpil have just recommended I buy the WarBord D’s as a desk top base but I will be using left stick Z Extensions and I am concerned these won’t be suitable for that set up. Can you advise please? Great work and I am grateful
I would rather all get the 5 pin plug even if we don't use all of them for some things but your setup would just be a single cable no matter what virpil hardware you have
It looks to be very well put together. Thank you for the review, N00b! I'm looking to set up some sticks for Star Citizen, but with everything that's out on the market, I'm worried I might make the wrong choice.
if you can pay a fortune, it seems the virpil are great! below are the nxt evo gladiator as great product and new now a new winwing stick for only a bit over 100 bucks each as new value champion. But the more money you spend the better, I would choose between these three.
Just received 2 VPC Constellation ALPHA Primes [L w/VPC Flight-stick Z-Extension + R] and 2 VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Bases. Not sure if the WarBRD-D Base would have been better for my left Z-Stick? hopefully he will respond to us.
Watched this video and the CM30 (Thanks for making BTW) though I am still a bit unclear, in regards to using a left stick with the Z extension as an omnithrottle, is the Warbrd D more than sufficient or do you recommend going to the CM30? I see both have a clutch option, just unclear which is going to be better for that use. This will be for space sims so the Z extension will be the only thing added. Virpil is offering a decent discount on dual Warbrd D and Constellation sticks right now.
I recently canceled my waiting order for WarBRD and re-ordered the WarBRD-D. You did explain all the question in my mind like for example the sticktion problem at the clutches and the deflection angle. Your video was a godsend and thank you so much for the info. Keep up the great work man 🙏👍🏻

Question for you regarding the new dry-clutch applying tension at 06:20. Does the new dry-clutch apply drag tension starting from the base's center or from the outside like the springs? I'm curious if it's worth upgrading to these new WarBRD bases to solve the mushy soft-center the old WarBRD bases with space cams have.
@NOOBIFIER1337 so, the dry clutch applies friction uniformly throughout the entire deflection of the the joystick? It's not like the spring system that applies the most tension near full deflection?
Would love a deepdive comparison videos with the current available options for joysticks, especially between the VKBs and Virpil sticks and bases. Currently have the Gladiator NXT Evo, but considering getting the MK.III base. But the Virpil Alphas are also enticing...
I was considering VKB for the MCG Ultimate, but in the end got tired of waiting for the throttle, so went with the CM3 base and an Alpha Prime on a 200 extension. A few weeks later the CM3 throttle was in a flash sale so picked that up too. If you can afford it highly recommended.
Thank you very much for the overview. I am just starting my venture into DCS World (F/A 18C) and looking for peripherals. Based on many hours of research and a variety of resources I have narrowed all the options down to Virpil products. With that said, I am debating on whether I should go with the WarBRD-D or the CM3 base. At this point I would like to use the Thrustmaster F/A-18C Hornet flight stick with it because it's a 1:1 scale replica. Do you believe this grip is a good choice? Overall do you believe this be a good starting point? Cheers, Greg
Oh gawd this gonna be expensive. I thought i was going to replace my left warbrd with this for the clutch feature, but seeing it is an overall great improvement i need to change both :o hopefully this new one fits with the old desk mounts.
Well, I canceled my CM3 order and switched to the WarBRD-D. This is my first foray into higher end sim gear and it sounds like the WarBRD-D is better suited to SC given the symmetrical cams and no need for extensions.

Am I correct in assuming that if I want a dead-stick helicopter cyclic and am therefore removing cams and springs and just require the drag clutches - then this WarBRD-D is going to be as good as the 50CM3 base in that configuration? I will be using long extensions but presumably the lack of torque there will be irrelevant for dead-stick operations. Any advice gratefully received.
I need one on my left for the throttle stick for the clutch. It would also help in games that don't have cruise control binds like star citizen, looking at you X4 Foundations
I have been going back and forth between VKB gladiators with the Z bracket and the Virpil’s for about a year now. Thanks Noob, this is exactly the type of review I need for this kind of equipment. I love my Virpil gear. I run the CM-2s with Alphas, the left stick has a Z extension. My arms do get tired after a while. I'll upgrade eventually but not yet. It's pretty much become one of my last lame attempts at exercise. Do you know how things are at Virpil, what with the war and all. Are they stable and secure? I'm hoping they're able to continue to produce and export for many years but I worry about things like sanctions.
It totaly works with extensions, but the large deflection angle will make it kinda unusable for very long extensions (well over 100mm). I have a WarBRD & MongoosT-50CM2 Grip with a 75mm extension. Works totaly fine with some stronger springs. I would say 100mm extension with a shorter grip would also work just fine in my setup. I have it mounted center on my chair in a simpit.
I have 2 WarBRDs. This looks great, but I think I put the investment in to what I need. If this had been available, I would have liked the new features.
I'm sitting it out. For now. I just got my first Virpil stuff 3 months ago, and I've barely used it in SC (I was planning to start playing more in 3.18, and then that got delayed a lot). WarBRD will do fine for now.
Hey, so I am looking to buy some virpil stuff (first time Virpil buyer) and I would like that "helicopter" esk stick/cyclic feel (aka a very sensitiv stick) and I would like to buy the WarBRD base with an extention. Would you guys say that combo will achieve what I want?
I am currently in the market for a set of HOSAS and virpil is a top contender. the only thing that makes me pause is the cost. The WinWing is 2nd because i can cut 500 dollars out of the price point between both sticks. I would love some discussion on the merits and drawbacks of both sets of sticks. Thank you for the content, it is relevant to me now.
You have pull with Virpil, it might be nice if they also sold 90 degree elbows, for people who see that need in their wire runs. I'm sure they'd like being able to just get the elbow with the device rather than having to resource it. Oh, and to your comment about hardwires attached, do the Stream Decks still do hard wires? I know that annoyed me when I bought mine.
I am confused by the virpil offerings as newbie. I want alpha primes I think but what base do I use for my sim lab rig (aluminum profile) if I want to do HOSAS with extensions (I imagine), and a center stick mount for fighters or helicopter? I have 2 rigs so I thought I could do HOSAS on one and center stick on the other. Thanks!
I was able to cancel my previous order, which had two of the first Warbrd along with cosmocams, and remake it with two of the Warbrd d instead, which comes with cosmocams included for almost the same price. Now, I can add a Z extension in the future if I choose.
Same as, though i had to cancel the full order and reorder... in doing so have reset my queue possition but tbh i am just glad the updated warbrd came out before the order was dispatched, these are defo pricey... £600 for z-extension, warbrd d and alpha prime L stick 😱
@@ukfieldninja8730 Have you got yours yet? I got mine a few weeks ago but am still waiting on my predator mounts to set them up. Just got the tracking for the mounts so should have them by next week.
@@Bland-79 yes, i have had mine a few weeks now, i put the heavy springs and space sim cams in, it was easy to do which was a nice suprise. I made my own spring puller to do the heavy spring, that was less easy... its took in total 5 week from ordering to arriving.
Just began testing my new WarBRD-D. Nothing compare to my old CM2. Two different worlds. I would say the WarBRD-D is made for StarCitizen and the CM2 for DCS. Am I right or wrong ? Now I have to know if the CM3 is in the middle or just a new CM2.
Hey, I travel alot due to work and play Star Citizen during this time. Would be the warbrd-d together with the constellation stick a good choice for a "travel" joystick setup? I would need to connect and disconnect the base and the stick quite often so does it fit in a suitcase. What do you think, could this work?
It’s the most compact gimbal they make. The quality is good and the wires are removable. Had you thought about a game controller? I have just reviewed one.
@@NOOBIFIER1337 thanks for the quick response! I thought about a game controller... but a joystick is a joystick:) so if it works I will go for that. When was the review?
What is the weight on this thing? The site does not mention it. I'm hesitant to switch from my Warthog because the weight is so good for not having to mount it to your desk. It weighs a ton and does not move when using it so really don't want to switch to something that will slide around or tilt. Even if it's miles better.
i have 2 original war birds and the t50 mongoose throttle( the best looking one IMO) and i have no regrets, i never even opened the bag with other cams cause it was so damn good right out the box. truly premium product so u get your moneys worth unlike the cheaply made but over priced warthog and saitex models
i have a question. I want to order 2 Alpha Prime with CM3 warbase. CM3 cause i want it for having the Option to use as omni für Space Sims. But now, that how it seems the new WarBRD has that option, what is an argument to buy CM3 and not just 2 WarBRD? thanks for your answer
took my time as I've been using the Warthog stick since 2014. Now however, I'm about the purchase the Constellation Alpha with said base at 560 Euros shipped. Do you have a discount code, only fair as I see all this gear through your reviews.
You get 10% automatically discounted on their website when you order a grip and base. I used the Warthog for the last year and got my Alpha and WarBRD 2 weeks ago and its just another level. Well worth the price I paid!
So the ability to have the left stick be static when you push. It is that only with the updated base? Can you get that (set it up) with the existing warbrd?
Yep, its not my setup how i want it to be, but I see the benefit over throttles, for me , Virpil is the best on the Market also considering VPC offerings, its just a lepa ahead
He said so. I currently run my WarBRD with 200mm extension non the less. Works great and is very precise in my opinion. I can't argue how much better a CM2 or CM3 would be because I have no comparison.
Yep seems most of their stuff is pretty good.....IF you can get it! Many items are ALWAYS on backorder and it takes MONTHS to get those items. Other issue is they charge you for everything you order upfront so your money is tied up for the entire time you're waiting. They have serious supply issues and have had for years. I ordered mine several years ago and just went up on their site. All the same items are STILL on backorder. Be prepared for a long wait. At least in the US this is the case. Not sure about other countries. Too bad.
Interestingly, if you place an order despite it saying back order, you are served first come and usually orders ship within a week, so your narrative isn’t exactly accurate. Some new items such as the AH64 grip do have a preorder period, but released products despite not being in stock, ship quickly
@@NOOBIFIER1337 - It took about 2 months to get the stick I ordered. It was not a new item. Maybe my order was the outlier but whether it's "first come first served or not", that' a long time. So much so I'm hesitant about doing it again. A week or two I could live with. No indications of delivery time is rough. So... while it may be accurate for you, it wasn't for me and that's all I have to go by. Add to that, all the same items always seem to be "Back Ordered". Maybe they never have stock of certain items and build when orders come in. If the demand for their products is that high, it might be advantageous to have some on hand. Tough to sell from an empty cart.
@@NEBoddy that is one way of looking at it, the other has to do with availability and demand. Balancing the demand through production is brilliant. If they are constantly sold out and at full production, then most scholars of economics would say that is perfect balance. Dumping thousands of product devalues what makes the thing special… if everyone is part of VIP tier, then nobody is VIP if you catch my suggestion. Perhaps Virpil makes you frustrated and will loose you as a customer, but they are still sold out, maxed out. Obviously they are doing this right.
@@NOOBIFIER1337 As you say that is one way of looking at it. There are companies far larger than Virpil that don't do it that way and yet still have product readily available. Doesn't seem to be hurting their bottom lines. On that point we'll agree to disagree. As for their product, definitely top shelf. No argument there so I don't know if they have lost me yet. But, that "Back Order" notice still gives me pause.
I would like to know this as well, particularly which one would be better for helicopters. Since they both have clutches and removable springs, both seem suitable, also since helicopters only need minimal or minor inputs, both seem suitable. Would like to be able to use an extension as well and place gimbal between my legs similar to real helicopter.
The CM3 is designed to work better with extensions so has less travel, something like 15 degrees, vs something like 22 degrees for the Warbird D. I have the CM3 with a 200 extension for helicopters. I also have a 100 extension for planes like the F18. I might get the Warbird D at some point to use with the F16 or for a left stick for Star Citizen. Not an ideal pair but it’s a different use case. Warbirds D is probably better for more general use. The other difference is the CM3 has adjustable spring tension for fine adjustments.
Yes thank for the reply, appreciate it. One thought though, when flying helicopters supposedly you only need minor inputs (5 degrees?) but i will use the gimbal for general aviation too, so cm3 seems to be the right choice for me. Again thanks for your reply
Whenever an already very well designed product enters its second generation is when I feel like buying things just because I know it's never going to get better.
Well… then…. Now you can say that you have experienced one review that didn’t say that. The Mk3 cam mechanical surface is nickel plated cast and was never machined. You can actually feel the roughness when comparing the two.
Ah, so it is _not_ recommended to use these with an extender. I should have seen this before I placed my order today. Ah, well, I'll have the extension just in case.
You use a significant amount of wording without getting to the point right away. Your video thats over 10 minutes could easily be said in 30 seconds. I don't know if Virpil sponsors you or you're just a really big fan but it certainly feels like a paid promotion more than anything.

I'm sitting it out. For now. I just got my first Virpil stuff 3 months ago, and I've barely used it in SC (I was planning to start playing more in 3.18, and then that got delayed a lot). WarBRD will do fine for now.
DCS - for those "between patch" waits.
CH3 is better suited for helicopter
@@NOOBIFIER1337 Damn that was one fast response, thx for the advice:)
When importing winwing products keep in mind the hefty vat taxes that are added ontop of your final price. Maybe gives a different perspective. 😁
I will inquire, but they do use off the shelf MilSpec connectors. That is probably so,etching you can get on E Bay
Thanks!
Does the War Brd D use the same base plate attachment to the desk mount as the War Brd?
Very nice review. I wish they didn't have the special cable required.
I just pulled the trigger on the war brd d I hope I made the right choice over the cm3 I’m only really playing star citizen with it
I was able to cancel my previous order, which had two of the first Warbrd along with cosmocams, and remake it with two of the Warbrd d instead, which comes with cosmocams included for almost the same price. Now, I can add a Z extension in the future if I choose.
Nice
CM3 is a new CM2
@@NOOBIFIER1337 THX !
Which brackets did you use with these ? There are so many.
@@TrueBlade-1889 the VPC brackets for WarBrd
What is the weight on this thing? The site does not mention it. I'm hesitant to switch from my Warthog because the weight is so good for not having to mount it to your desk. It weighs a ton and does not move when using it so really don't want to switch to something that will slide around or tilt. Even if it's miles better.
It’s heavier than warthog when the plate is attached.
i have 2 original war birds and the t50 mongoose throttle( the best looking one IMO) and i have no regrets, i never even opened the bag with other cams cause it was so damn good right out the box. truly premium product so u get your moneys worth unlike the cheaply made but over priced warthog and saitex models
i have a question. I want to order 2 Alpha Prime with CM3 warbase. CM3 cause i want it for having the Option to use as omni für Space Sims. But now, that how it seems the new WarBRD has that option, what is an argument to buy CM3 and not just 2 WarBRD? thanks for your answer
For space, I prefer WarBRD D
took my time as I've been using the Warthog stick since 2014. Now however, I'm about the purchase the Constellation Alpha with said base at 560 Euros shipped. Do you have a discount code, only fair as I see all this gear through your reviews.
Sorry, Virpil has no codes.
Yes and no
Yep, its not my setup how i want it to be, but I see the benefit over throttles, for me , Virpil is the best on the Market also considering VPC offerings, its just a lepa ahead
The cosmocams are included with this version, unlike the first, correct?
I got them and yes they are.
Does it has a Z Axel?
Do you have a preference between Virpil and MonsterTech mounts?
MT mounts all the way.
@@NOOBIFIER1337 I use Predator mounts. I don't see a huge difference other than price.
@@NOOBIFIER1337 What's interesting is I can't find a "predator mounts" vrs "monstertech mounts" RUclips video.
@@NOOBIFIER1337 Great, thanks!
So, Warbrd-d is the way to go if you're not running extensions?
He said so. I currently run my WarBRD with 200mm extension non the less. Works great and is very precise in my opinion. I can't argue how much better a CM2 or CM3 would be because I have no comparison.
my god... I can't wait to eventually go Virpil. I keep putting it off but they keep making better shit! So sick!
They are getting hard to beat.
What if I don't have the budget tot test and modify?
I fly hosas with dual TM 16000 and find my sticks develop drift . What should I do/try?
In the case of that stick, there isn’t really anything that can be repaired. It’s basically a replace
Their us website shows all the pieces as back ordered anyone know the normal turn around for shipment?
It depends. In this case might be a month.
Oui, when I return home I can do this.
But so what is the difference between this one and the cm3 ?
@@doifeellucky oh thank you very much ! I'll take that in consideration when buying !
Yes thank for the reply, appreciate it. One thought though, when flying helicopters supposedly you only need minor inputs (5 degrees?) but i will use the gimbal for general aviation too, so cm3 seems to be the right choice for me. Again thanks for your reply
@@tomas5577 you're welcome ! Yeah I plan to use it for MFS and Star citizen
Whenever an already very well designed product enters its second generation is when I feel like buying things just because I know it's never going to get better.
What chair is it ? Name please i need this
Monstertech
Very good video thank you
From every review ive read where someone has MKIII and WarBrd they all said the MKIII felt more precise.
Well… then…. Now you can say that you have experienced one review that didn’t say that. The Mk3 cam mechanical surface is nickel plated cast and was never machined. You can actually feel the roughness when comparing the two.
looks very will built
i am so confused, sou talk about torque, does this thing have force feedback???
Nope
Dang it, now I have to upgrade my WarBRD. Hurry up, take my money, lol..

I’m not paid and I have no NDA with them. You can do what other people do and watch videos at 4x speed if you like
