    Cracking interview, as always Peter is very generous with his time as well as his transparency on what the future holds. I'm particularly excited to hear there's early war plastics on they way, including infantry!
    Great shoutout to @FogofWar i hope you took the opportunity to convince the battlefront team to send him review samples!

    I really like hearing Peter telling about BF. It shows how much life and enthusiasm is in this company.
    Therefore I am sorry to make a correction: The biggest tank battle in cold war times is said to be the Battle of Chawinda in 1965 between India and Pakistan. But the Battle of Cueto Carnevale is a battle that should be noticed as well too. I think both battles are not very well know because of our western centric view, what we call - for no good reason if you ask me - "proxy wars".

    24:44 yes…more infantry in the starter boxes - combined arms baby. The only other thing I would ask for in the starters would be the cardboard flats like they used to include. Or, perhaps sell cardboard flat terrain like Battletech’s done for alpha strike. Or deluxe purchase of starter box with 2-4 pieces of terrain.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage

      I have asked him in the past about things like a playmat - he was of the view that maximum plastic is the way they want to go. I understand that, but I tend to think a bit of scenery and a playmat make for better starter sets overall.

    At the same time the price has risen twice on the individual 5 tank kits, they have come out with half dozen super affordable army deals. I bought three Kasserine, three US USSR Team Yankee starter and 2 Hit the Beachs. I have not even been able to pick them all up but those sets offset any price increases... I can almost always get into a Battlefront army for $5 a tank for the main plts and then its 9-12 a tank/support vehicle depending on who and where you buy it. The infantry especially their metals are underpriced if you have ever seen the secondary market their scarcity creates.,

    Interesting interview. It's a great shame that Battlefront don't keep their ranges going and support them over time.
    At the moment, I can't get a whole bunch of buildings in the Battlefield in a Box range, which apparently aren't being made and no one knows when or if they will ever be made again. And Early War has been allowed to die - can't get any Polish models now. Who knows when that's coming back?
    Fortunately, 3D printing has come to my rescue on both fronts. So cottage industries run from the garages of enthusiasts serve my interests in a flexible way, whilst a big company like Battlefront lets me down.

      Do you mean their o sprue hard plastic framed infantry? Or do you mean the other plastics they have tried over the years? I think their hard plastic frame infantry is excellent, but the rest of it is sub par... hence being excited for more of the good stuff.

    • @canadiandrumer
      @canadiandrumer Год назад +1

      @@ModellingforAdvantage The hard plastic frame infantry is decent, soft plastic is depressing. I wouldn't say any of it is better than what it replaced, which is sort of the bar in my book for what should constitute a new release. Not "well we can make this in plastic now and the rules will make sure we sell a lot of it" which seems to be the driving factor in V4 release content. I'd rather them at least think "we finally have something that looks better than the old stuff we made that is fetching huge sums on the secondhand market."

    • @gottagainzlmao8940
      @gottagainzlmao8940 Год назад +2

      I agree, even the hard plastic infantry are starting to show their age compared to victrix. The soft plastics are really weird, some are so huge they are basically small 20mm instead. Miss the old metal as they had a more standardized look and size.

    Great chat with Peter but I was hoping you guys might ask the question especially for UK players. Will the command cards and unit card packs be back in print and in stock on a more steady basis and this is across the board of all theatres. I'm especially trying to track down mid war North Africa for both Afrika Korp and British. But I'm also wanting the Bulge British and Germans. Also when will starter sets like British from Normandy onwards be back in stock? The UK always seems to get the short straw......

    I am a model builder--not a wargamer. I started model building as a kid in the 60s with the old Airfix 1/76 scale, then graduated to the more realistic 1/72, then 1/48 and finally the most realistic 1/35 scale as an adult. I also have armor and toy soldiers (like Conte) at 1/32 scale, and finally, the ULTIMATE SOLDIER and 21st Century Toys--1/18 airplanes and soldiers! I do like the 1/56 Rubicon models but am hesitant to start collecting this "odd" scale. I HATE wargaming figures, like the 28 mm Bolt Action, etc., because they look so unrealistic, with their huge, pumpkin heads, hands and weapons. Why not try to make your products more realistic, like the Rubicon 1/56 line? You will generate a whole lot more interest and money!

  • @canadiandrumer
    @canadiandrumer Год назад +1

    And for the record I don't think we all agree that plastic models are by default, or even on average, better. Most if not all the plastics vehicles I have seen are 5-10% oversized and more on the 17mm scale than 15mm. A lot of the vehicles have missing details due to corners being cut to simplify all the model parts into a couple sprues. Add to that the limited variety of models available due to plastic mold development overhead limiting releases to only the most popular stuff and there are a lot unsavory bits to basing everything around what you can plasticize.
    Plastic's main benefit is durability, which is a nice feature but there are still a lot of parts that at this scale are fragile in either material format (plastic or resin/metal). Additionally the extra size on the plastic models also made them more durable, so it isn't really a fair comparison.
    But I get that BF is a model selling business, and plastic models are where all the money is. But pretending like they are vastly superior/popular seems like an overstatement and not a good rational for designing the game around what can be produced in plastic.

    An interesting interview. However, in my humble opinion when BF say they are going to do Early war properly I am somewhat concerned because they then say box sets; thus suggesting overly simplified forces playing standard confrontational games of war. When Peter states historical authenticity I’m not sure he grasps that his perception of WW2 history may not match the actual and may be a tad simplified, not include many forces that actually were major participants or produce actual scenarios that will be reflective of ground conditions alas.
    The early war has the most diverse and interesting operations for wargamers. Moreover, I very much doubt,as stated, we will see Dutch, Belgian or many other nations or a comprehensive range of French infantry types, Cavalry, motorbike and cycle troops will also likely be omitted. Nothing appears to be being done on Norway or Poland either and some disdain concerned with the Early war in the desert, Mediterranean operations and East Africa. There are some excellent airborne operations too. These being the very first and need to be considered to.
    BFS early metal ranges were fantastic and allowed you to build some really interesting forces to explore the history but now it is so linked to commercial needs, understandably from a commercial basis, but sad from a wargaming perspective.
    If you want early war in the Low Countries here I hope is some inspiration and let’s pray BF do this right and include what is needed ruclips.net/video/kIM35j1W9yw/видео.htmlfeature=shared
