Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy (First Union Center, Philadelphia 1998)

- At Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center in 1998, Elton and the band gave the title track from his 1975 album (the first to ever enter the Billboard Top 200 at #1) a slightly slower rendition than usual in concert, which only adds weight to the autobiographical song’s reflective lyrics. That is John Jorgenson (Desert Rose Band, Hellecasters), who toured with Elton from 1995-1998, providing mandolin accompaniment and Music Director Davey Johnstone, still leading the band on Elton’s Farewell tour, switching back and forth between acoustic and electric guitars.

OMG how is it possible to write songs of this awesomesness. So sweet, inocent subtle and amusing all at the same time. Great song from a great great album.
Wow does that bring back memories!! I was born in 67 and Elton John was the first album I ever bought!!! I used to listen to Captain Fantastic and at the same time marveled at the artwork on the album> I got grounded alot back then and this album made me happy im my room alone
My story is similar except I chose to be in my room and listen to his music and loved looking at the albums and reading the lyrics to all of EJ's albums. Musical geniuses him and Bernie Taupin, 💛
I wasn't allowed out of the house on a school night. So I sat in my room and listened to my Elton John albums and read and sang the lyrics. Every school night and when I was home:)
Never heard this one live before. Awesome
🎹🎹🎹🎼🎶🎵🎵🎵😍😍😍
Superb!
I Love this song!!
Mais uma pérola de um artista incrível!
Saudações do Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Perhaps one of the best songs he and Bernie ever wrote. This one NEEDS to be played on the last leg of the Farewell tour...no exceptions!
100 percent. The honey the hive could be holding.
This one needs to be played for hundreds of years. So hope stays alive
It's part of the playlist for sure
@@susandavidson528 that's the problem it's not. sadly. he has a rigid greatest hits setlist now.
Should be played at every leg!! Although I would be remised if they didn’t play Farewell Yellow Brick Road at the one I’m going to (Phoenix)
Great album. He does not play much from it anymore.
Música de qualidade
❤❤❤
I love the ucalally. Who is that good looking guy playing the bongos?
It's a mandolin. John Mahon is the percussionist.
Who is that guy playing the drums?
O nome do baterista do vídeo é Jack Bruno. Legal encontrar alguém novo que goste de Elton John.
The first album l bought with my babysitter money was Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboys. I was so proud of myself.
Love that!!
I still have it !!.33 lP that’s worth framing !
I skipped school to buy the album the day it came out. I took it straight out of the box at the music store. I remember that day very well.
It’s my favorite of Elton’s albums. Great intro song and perfect outro with Curtains.
I'm smiling
And it's a fabulous memory, huh?!!
i get nostalgic for my childhood in the mid70s when I hear this song. my sister and I would study the album cover art and listen to every song on this album over and over again
I was at this concert, and was beyond thrilled that he played this. A highlight of my concert going experiences for sure. This is still my favorite album.
One of my favorites out of his whole discography.❤️
His best album ever. Bernie and Elton🙏
Agreed
One of Elton’s best songs, great album too.
this was the first album ever to be #1 before it was even released . it sure helped that cpt fantastic followed yellow brick road. but the next one, rock of the westies, didn't do so well even if it had ''island girl'' on it. i collected all of his albums starting in '75 when i was stationed in germany and had a top of the line stereo system.
Very under estimated song, maybe one of his best and great live.
°Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy° !!!💕💕 Perfect for guitar 😍😍
quite rare for Elton tunes 😅
Heard this song thousands of times, and it's still not enough!
⭐❤️⭐❤️⭐❤️⭐❤️⭐
After all these years, this song still gives me goosebumps!
One of the best and most dedicated performers in the history of music ♥️
U
One of my favorite songs off the album. Musically this song is so rich, a lot of instruments going on at the same time, and all playing spot on
It’s funny that his voice has traces of his pre surgery vocals. Take a look at 3:39
Captain Fantastic was the end of Elton's first act.
I think BLUE MOVES was .
@@waiter1971 blue moves is such a fantastic album!.. but I think it was the end of first act of genius from him and bernie..
Blue Moves!.. some great under the radar songs.. ive seen elton every year 74- 82.. including elton and Ray Cooper 2 man show which was fantastic!
I just Love the Hell out of Elton John!! What a great song!!
Not getting to hear this song live in all the times I've seen Elton John in concert is one of my biggest regrets in life.
Maybe Elton thinks it is too complex - maybe why they slowed it down? Just sayin. There is loads going on.
Honestly whenever I hear this song I just smile.
this song sings my life, can never hear it enough, over and over and over I listen to it and my soul is at rest
Captain Fantastic is an outstanding song.
I thank God for Elton John. He is certainly a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. 😊
Might be his most underrated song So great
Back in the day, I bought this album. I just pulled it out and listened to it. Blister free, clean as it can be, it sounded great! Meal Ticket, Writing, and all the other great songs on it. I'll sell it for $5000. Let me know.
Brilliant and I agree it should be sung in concert Sir Elton is amazing
Awesome! One of the greatest songs he and Bernie ever wrote hands down.
Great song and album. Should be in the set list for the current tour!
This is such a strange song. It's a good song. But, so strange. ------------
Davey J. so talented..
My favourite Elton Album...
86 here lol
Thanks for this wonderful version. I've been hearing the 1975 live version of this song recently.
Sir Elton John!! Lord, Elton, please give us the immense pleasure of returning to Brazil, where we can hear him singing this classic!!! ❤️😍🙌🙌🙌🙌
Brilliant genius
And this is what i call the real music! 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
What a song ! What a great live version 🎹🎶
A melhor versão que já vi dessa linda música. Fantastic
Was 12 when this came out, mom gave it to me as a gift, right after it was released... I've got the cd now, it's in the car stereo right now!! A seriously GREAT album of songs!
Love this version! Goosebumps
Beautiful. Great song from a great voice! 😊
All of Elton John’s music has a light hearted, happy feeling to it! I love it! 🎼🎵🎶🎹😍❤️
Uhhhh no??
It‘s Great to see one of my favourite songs in such good quality *.*
When this album came out I was 12....and I've loved it-Esp.this song!! Here we are,47 years later....and it's STILL a favorite💕💕💕💕💕💕
We're the same age, and it is still a favorite of mine, as well! Cheers!!
This is a great performance. However there is too much piano in the mix. What I loved about the original was the guitars and the electric piano. They blended just right.
Love the Mandolin 😁
I think it took years for Elton and company to figure out what a great song this is.
I was 18 years old when this record was published.. It was 1975 and these song are still amazing
I wish Teron Egerton would've sing this for the movie. Wouldve been a perfect opener for the movie.
I appreciate he's got a fill-in drummer on this one but I'm really bugged by the simplified drum pattern used in the chorus (or first chorus.) Otherwise, a rare live performance of this gem.
Brasil te ama mito 👏💃💃👑rei linnnndo
Here before rocketman comes out! Haha
I'm 6 months now and this is Very Nice this piano man good to hear
Even toddlers enjoy Elton's music!!!
@@Bimhermodrsenblom of course Samuel is 2 years old now he pay attention to the song
I'm 60 and I believe my Mother bought this album for me for my 16th birthday, not sure. But anyways one of my most favorites! (she all ways bought me beatles albums over the years)
Your mom must have been as cool as mine! This album was given to me as a gift by my mother, too! Gotta love them cool moms!!
AMO MÚSICAS DE ELTON....ESTÁ É LINDA....
Great concert. Like. 👍😊🙋♂️
This was done one year before I was born
Love this song love Elton John
Absolutely sensational track and what a fabulous live rendition
Ok, now I wanna hear Tower Of Babel!!
That's on the same LP.
And then Bitter Fingers, and the rest of the record for me! Lol
Right?? Every song on this album is simply amazing
Frist Comment Grettings from Guatemala 🇬🇹❤️

That is such a good looking man playing the bongos.

This is the best Elton video I have ever seen. What a great singer, Sir Elton!
Talvez o melhor disco da carreira de Sir Elton John seja "Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy" (1975).
Blimey, this is good.
Bom dia música linda
favorite artist of all time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
best song. never witha madloin though
Jack Bruno on drums, was so great with Joe Cocker too!
👏👏😊👏😊👏
🇷🇺👏
I have never seen a guitar player (JJ) play a toy-looking guitar and looking so badass
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Isn't it funny how Elton could sing all this without all those ear plugs like the new comers have to have. Frank didn't need them either. That speaks volumes.
Capt EJ and Bernie forever!!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
💖🎹💖🎹💖🎼🎶😍💕
😍🤔❤️💚💛🇧🇷🇧🇷
Next to Elton's Song, The Love Song, and Sacrifice, this is my favorite Elton song of all time, and my favorite song of any artist with the exception of Scenes from an Italian Restaurant by Billy Joel.
💞💞💞💞
Extraordinario!!!
His best album
Best song from a great album...
