  • @thorium9190

    This is probably very difficult, but if the Magic Mouse can be opened, you can just plug a charger for the battery cell itself or take that battery out altogether and use the extra space in the mouse base to add a bigger battery with a charger and possibly wireless charging. The mouse remains usable as the mouse circuit doesn’t see it’s being charged, however you can’t tell if it’s being charged unless the percentage goes up

    The moment I saw you connected the mouse and expected it to work I knew what was gonna happen. Some years ago I got a magic mouse from the company I was working on, and tried to charge it and use it. I just plugged the mouse and put the laser in the table, kinda awkward position to try to use a mouse, but it was connected and the laser was doing perfect contact with the table. And yes, the mouse didn't work. I hated that mouse from that day. I makes no sense the mouse wouldn't work while charging, nor it makes more sense having the charging port in that position either... but without a doubt the magic mouse is the worst mouse and apple product in existence.

      It makes sense not to work while charging if the device maybe isn’t designed to work like that (working while battery is recharging, bad for battery life or something) and the awkward place of the connection reinforces the idea of “do not use this while charging”… and it takes so little time to charge it that it is a non issue if it can’t be used while charging.

    Modern Apple and ergonomics don't mix. This goes beyond their mice - the iMacs have had a fixed height stand for 20 years, which is terrible from a health/ergonomic perspective. Their keyboards are dire. Their phones and laptops have a stupid notch at the top. They insist on putting the ports on the back of their computers, forcing you to awkwardly reach behind them.
    They design products to look good, not feel good.

    • @Mainyehc
      @Mainyehc 11 месяцев назад

      Now, now, their keyboards actually improved when they reverted to the traditional scissor mechanism from the failed butterfly one. Of course, they aren’t as comfortable as proper desktop keyboards, but you wouldn’t want one of those on a laptop, right? And it’s not like you can’t angle your laptop to make it more comfortable to type on if you must, especially if it’s a fan-less MacBook Air…

    • @kirishima638
      @kirishima638 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@Mainyehc Their laptop keyboards are ok now, at least after the butterfly fiasco which they gaslighted users for, for years.
      But their desktop keyboards are terrible for the price they demand. They're chiclet keys in a desktop case. I'm pretty sure they still don't have illumination. And they have no way to adjust the angle, a BASIC feature on even the cheapest USB keyboard.
      Apple should be at forefront of peripheral design and should be offering ergonomic keyboards and mice to go with their $1000 display stands.
      It makes me angry just had bad this stuff is for the prices they charge, especially when I see classrooms with Apple devices encouraging bad posture and RSI.

      @@kirishima638 I completely agree here. The Magic Keyboard is really one of those Apple products causing mixed feelings. On the one hand, it looks really good, minimalistic, has the exact same layout as their MacBook keyboard (great for muscle memory) and features TouchID (on some models). But on the other hand, it's really pricey (to the point where you can get 2 nice mechanical keyboards), has no backlight, is an ergonomic nightmare because there's no feet to tilt it up and is a membrane keyboard, which means that once something spills onto it, you can throw it in the trash, while I saved my $70 mech two times already (1x coffee and 1x tea). I didn't and still don't regret selling my Magic Keyboard 2 years ago. It's just not worth it.

    At 10:49 , I was about to suggest adding a wireless charger coil and used the mod with charging pad. Then, you don't have to think of charging the mouse anymore.
    The design decision to prohibit operation while charging at the same time is related to "ancient" Li-battery tech. The lifespan of battery shortens, risk of battery swelling and fire hazard increase when you allow that around 2009. If I were you, I would disassembly the mouse and reroute the components to fit into the MX Master like mouse base. Cheap Qi coil coins $5~7 with a little bread board supporting wireless charging can be added to the huge area inside the base. You got the perfect magic mouse which is always ~80% charged whenever you pick it up and never worry about charging again. (Unless your cheap $11 wireless charging pad /internal Li-battery dies for some reason)

    Just saw this video now. Im really curious if have you tried to change the orientation of how the lightning charger is connected to the mouse? The reason is, there are four possible combinations, and one of them might work. I learned about this when i bought a cheap USB-C to lightning adaptor and when I tried it, it didn’t work. But after fiddling with the orientation, I discovered that there is only ONE right way of connecting the lightning adapter, if you are using a USB -C to lightning adaptor (which in fact is the same case here in this video). I hope you would be able to read this, and try it out, and let us know if this work, because that would be super cool if the charger would work in your design.

    Even if it doesn't work completely because Apple won't design a mouse that makes sense, it is still improvement. USB-C charging is a win considering that even most of the Apple offering is using USB-C and the shell attachments looks like it can actually work without giving you carpal tunnel after 5 minutes of usage.
    I'd still use just normal better designed mouse but some people got fooled into buying magic mouse so this could help them.

    Here's an idea for improving the charging pad. Make a hollow rectangular pad , in a more convenient size and mount the pad inside so its surface is flush with the new pad's. Cover it with any convenient material (cloth, PVC film etc) any you'll have a more stable platform for resting the mouse, instead of that little round target.

  • @TheCrystalJules

    Ok ok ok since you did all that work, I have an idea. What if you made the project 10x more complicated by putting a microcontroller inside with an accelerometer. Set it up so when the mouse hasn't moved for, say, 15-20 minutes to initiate charging. That way your mouse "goes to sleep" when not in use and either stops charging when it detects motion, or after some pre-determined "this is how long it takes to charge a magic mouse back to full" time. If you leave it plugged in it'll always be charged but never be charging when you want to use it, and you can also unplug it whenever and trust that it has a full charge.
    Way more work than it's actually worth, but you would probably get like 95% of the product you originally envisioned. It was a good and entertaining video regardless and thank you for posting 👍

    The orientation and side-scrolling gestures of that mouse (in conjunction with the cramped keybinds on that Anne Pro 2 in your previous video) gave me such bad carpal tunnel that I had to take a month off work. Physical therapist said to never use that mouse again, citing many other patients who had issues with it as well. Ergodox + vertical mouse is the way.

    Take the magic mouse and disassemble it (don't brake the flex cable )
    see how long the flex cable is and 3d print something so you can fit the bottom part of the magic mouse in side of the 2:21 Mousebase so it is closer to the surface of the table !
    and put the top part on top (don't for get to see if flex cable length and then make the 3d printed parts)
    this should fix some or all of the sensitivity problems !
    for charging
    Use a Tp4056 USB-C lithium battery charging module (get the one with the charge protection) and run wires directly to the battery (you will have to solder stuff and if it's hard to find a place to fit the USB-C port, un-solder the USB port and run wires to a new USB port and hot glue the port to the Mousebase )

    Something people doesn’t seem to even slightly consider is Apple doesn’t want people to use this wireless mouse while attached to a wire… it isn’t the experience they wish for Apple users, so they made it impossible to use while the wire is attached, it stops working at all and the charging port is in a place to make you understand it is not meant to be used with a wire attached. It is a device meant to be totally wireless in use, free of wires.
    In the other hand their keyboards work with Bluetooth but also wired (not only for charge but to communicate directly to the Mac, even with Bluetooth off) and it doesn’t change the experience because we don’t move the keyboard once we choose it’s place.

    it's so flat because if it was curved, you'd have to curve your fingers awkwardly to scroll and use the gestures. But because it's flat, your fingers stay more relaxed while operating it. The only way this mouse could get better if it had a softer, more silent push-button. Other than that, it's by far the best pointing device for a mac (better than the trackpad) and imho the second best mouse of all times, the first being the mx master 3s, which has an overengineered but substantially worse scrolling function.
