    Nice video, thank you. A couple of tips:
    1. If you really feel compelled to use a grinder then only grind off one pin. The other one isn't coming out anyway. I use the same tool you do and I've replaced who knows how many chains over the years and each time I've used the tool as designed to push one of the pins completely out to break the chain. Never had anything go wrong with the tool and probably won't as long as it's used properly.
    2. To move the wheel far enough forward to replace the chain or just to remove the chain from the rear sprocket when removing the rear wheel, all you have to do is remove the axle nut and sliding shoe from the right side, tap the end of the axle so as to push it through far enough so the sliding shoe on the left side clears the adjusting screw and simply push the wheel forward. This is a particularly helpful method when removing the rear wheel to install a new tire and you don't want to lose the original position in regards to chain tension since you don't have to loosen the adjusting screws.
    3. When pressing the new chain plate on rather than use a caliper which requires taking the tool on and off simply use a feeler gauge and measure between the plates and the link. You can easily do this with the tool in place. In the case of a D.I.D. chain the clearance should be .050" or 1.25 mm. If unsure just measure an installed link and use that spec.
    I really enjoy your videos so please keep them coming 👍

    I am surprised that the V4 uses a 525. My Multistrada 1260 S uses a 530. I bought a chain breaker from Cycle Gear. The tool broke while driving a rivet out. I then used a grinder to cut the chain off. I also bought a quick change sprocket. On my subsequent chain replacement I didn't need to remove the carrier. I love my single side swing arm like you have on your Pikes Peak. I now have a Kellerman chain tool that will break a 530 chain without problems. I like the way you used the old chain to pull the new chain on. I couldn't do that since I changed sprockets. Like you, I use a caliper to press the plate on appropriately.

      It seems like chain size on bikes is not so consistent anymore.

    Wow, i cant believe you got 25K out of the chain! Plus, your sprockets do look really good. Unbelievable. On my first Multistrada, the chain wore unevenly and had stretched unevenly at 12K miles.

      I am constantly adjusting my tire pressures and making sure that my chain is properly adjusted on a regular basis. As you can tell me some of my videos I don’t baby the bike. I’m not sure why everything is in such good shape

    25000 miles (40000 km) is amazing, I can't believe the sprockets are in such good shape. Mfg. used to add little marks next to a couple teeth on the rear sprocket to indicate max wear but not on these. I get mine changed complete with sprockets at the end of August at probably 22000 km, in my case its more a mix of preventive maintenance and the fact that my dealer here at home closed at the end of 2021. Didn't feel comfortable to ask the closest dealer (in MN) to just run the electronic updates and do the SB's.

    I would highly recommend replacing the entire drive system. You want even wearing. Changing both at the same time will also cut down on drive train noise and keep the system a bit more in balance. You wouldn't put an old chain back on new sprockets would you? So why put a new chain on old sprockets?

    • @RemboUSMC
      @RemboUSMC  2 года назад +1

      There is absolutely some wear, just not a lot. Yes, it is a good idea and I agree with you but for now, I could have kept the same chain on too. Not bad wear for 25k miles.
